John McCain promises a "pro-life'' presidency - he said so at the Saddleback Church in California last night.
So there's no way McCain can pick a "pro-choice'' running mate, such as former Pennsylvania Gov. Tim Ridge. Right?
Maybe.
"My friend of 25 years is passionately pro-life,'' Ridge said on FOX News Sunday this morning. "He is also passionately a believer that the Republican Party must have a big tent.
" And I think, frankly, what he was just saying to the rest of the world is that we need to accept both points of view,'' Ridge told FOX's Chris Wallace today.
"He's not judgmental about me or my belief,'' said Ridge, who also served as the first Homeland Security secretary under President Bush and, like McCain, is a decorated war veteran - and popular in a state where Democrat Barack Obama apparently holds a narrow advantage over McCain. "He just disagrees with me. And there's no doubt in my mind, no doubt whatsoever, that there would be -- he would have a strong pro-life administration. No question about it."
Now, picking a running mate for such political considerations as Pennsylvania's electoral votes would be - as Republican strategist Karl Rove has suggested of Obama tapping someone such as Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, former mayor of the 103rd largest city (Richmond) - well, political.
So the pick will be made on principle, right?
Maybe.

The big-tent GOP is open to both pro-life and pro-abortion people.
The narrow-tent Democrats exclude pro-lifers.
Quite a contrast.

McCain's statement at the Saddleback confab indicates that not only is he anti-abortion, he is anti-contraception.
Every woman in America needs to know this.

Popular in Pennsylvania?
Don't think so.
He's the reason we're suffering through
Ed Rendell here in PA.
I like Tom Ridge (he used to be my Congressman), but he's been in way over his head ever since he left Congress.
I'm a Republican & I'll never vote for John McCain no matter who he picks as VP.

Tom Ridge will mirror the inadequacies of Senator " Questionable Conduct " McCain and President Bush, his former boss, when he was supposed to be running the most " efficient of Departments, Homeland Security. You know the same one that was so poorly equipped, poorly organized, and with a total lack of leadership, in any quarter of that administration !! If Senator McCain chooses him for his Vice-President, it will be a worse choice than President Bush's was, with Vice-President Cheney. I hope this time, America will be able to see this dysfunctional ticket that the Republicans are trying to fool America with, again !! We are just finishing up with their last dysfunctional ticket, the Bush-Cheney ticket.

I don't think Ridge will be his choice. If he were, I'm sure everyone would find it more important as to what kind of judges he might support, if he had to take McCain's place. It's doubtful it would be LIBERAL JUDGES who tend to be pro-choice. I believe judges are picked by the RiGHT for more than just that issue. How they view laws or if they legislate from the bench are more important issues.

I 've decided that I'm writing in my dog for president...who is more loyal than anybody in DC. He is ever vigilant alerting me when delivery trucks are nearby and when the weather turns bad I know it because he heads straight for the toilet to hide behind until the storms are over. In dog years he is 74 so he beats McCain in experience. I think his running mate will be Rhino, the dog that lives behind us. He's only 35 so he can bring in the younger voters...

athena 12:56 PM- That is the dumbest thing I've read on these post yet. I'm a female and I'm hardly worried that someone is going to take my birth control away ha ha ha. Those type of scares were played years ago (that aged you my dear ha).
Speaking of taking something away. I'm worried that with his ridiculous plan of Universal Health care, which means to cover EVERYONE, that if we elect Obama we will also be subject to his UNIVERSAL VOLUNTEERISM (which means we will ALL HAVE TO PARTICIPATE). That means Athena will be helping some poor woman (maybe White) in her home, maybe watching her kids or scrubbing her toilets. It's what ever Obama feels you should put your time into to so you can be a good BLT Christian.

Well, I guess you'd better pay closer attention to what the Bush admin is doing right now! They are issuing rules (by executive order) that make it easier for pharmacy or hospital workers who object to contraception on religious grounds (that "life begins at conception" idea--which is a strictly religious concept) to deny services to those who might need or want contraception.
They are defining contraception as abortion.
See: http://news.aol.com/political-machine/2008/07/22/hillary-to-bush-contraception-is-not-abortion/

I dont get it. Abortion is legal in this country why is it even an issue? I suppose none of you Pro Life people smoke or drink alcohol right? I mean, smoking and drinking kills millions of lives each year and is harmful to children who are already born. So where are your Pro-Life protests about these issues? Thousands of people are on death row, where are your protests? Life is life right?
PAH-LEASE!! Keep your religious views to yourselves and stay out of other peoples private matters!! Because of your archaic beliefs millions suffer from AIDS because they are taught that using a condom is against gods will. PAH-LEASE!!! Where is your compassion for the lives of these millions affected by your Pro-Life agenda?

You are right, " Athena ", the Republicans have two agendas to concentrate on, if they are successful, fooling the voters, again, the fundamentalists and Wall Street Journal greed ! Privatize and Fertilize !! Eliminate many programs that help the needy citizens and force women to have unwanted pregnancies. Social Security will be privatized and connected to Wall Street's greed, the Stock Market. Prices will skyrocket and wages will deflate and you will have the perfect mix for early deaths and miserable lives, among those that keep this country running and working, the workers. I know, the Rabid Right will dust off their tired old, distortions and lies and slanderous homilies and label everyone, Commies, socialist, pinkos, deviates and worst of all, the boogyman of them all, a TERRORIST !!! Those are, or were, the magic bullets, in the past. They still use them, but they are working on another set of verbal triggers, that will allow them to scream those words out loud and shame and berate another citizen for the political positions they are taking, which will be contrary to theirs !!! They don't want political discourse, they want lock-step, conformity, all in the service of the money-making machine," America the Business " !! You know that tune, don't you, America, it starts out with the words, " Money, Money, Money.."!! You know the rest, we the working and middle class get to sing it, we never get to share in its distribution. It's their anthem, but we only get to sing it !! The rich and the Corpos get to enjoy it !!Oh, sweet and good America, where have they taken you !!?

Posted by: athena 9:08 AM-hmmmm, so no compaints about doing MANDATORY VOLUNTEERISM huh, curious!?
Life begining at conception IS NOT STRICTLY A RELIGIOUS VIEW DEAR.
I read the piece you posted, and it said it would protect people from being discriminated against for their beliefs against abortion. That is something I whole heartedly support. In keeping with this law for protection, they define abortion in a way that a religious person might find themselves unable to support this at their jobit>The proposal defines abortion as follows: "any of the various procedures - including the prescription, dispensing and administration of any drug or the performance of any procedure or any other action - that results in the termination of the life of a human being in utero between conception and natural birth, whether before or after implantation." ****Definiing how these people can be protected based on their religious views is normal standards for making a law of protection. It doesn't say that they won't allow anyone but Religious people holding this view to service you, it says you can't fire someone for their strong beliefs against it. Don't worry Athena, you'll get your birth control and abortions if that's what you are worried about. There are enough veiws in this world that support both sides, BOTH SIDES, meaning others with opposing views than yours alone.
Obama thinks that Churches recieving money to help someone should be required to hire people who don't support their religious beliefs or values if they are spending Govt money. That is beyond rediculous. They're a religious group doing all the work, they can hire who they like. Religious groups and others outside the govt are proven to do a better job then Govt to help people, why mess with success for experimental LIBERAL interference.

How can Obama be a Christian and a Pro-choice supporter. Sounds like a contradiction to me. I guess I won't be voting for anyone as I am pro-life and anti-war.

I'm glad you think you know.
What I know is that there is no place for religious disputes in our government. The government has no business using religious organizations, or funding them, or dictating to them. I disagree with Obama on this.
An individual's religious beliefs have no business with regard to mine. Especially not in a health care setting.

Athena- McCain has been harshly criticized that he's not been talking about God thru out his campaign. He only did so during a religious debate, where he said that religion was a personal matter.
Obama's campaign centered on it as soon as his BLT Church was discussed right from the begining. He and his wife went on about giving up lucrative jobs and put their time into giving back to the poor. That's where he's come up with this UNIVERSAL VOLUNTEERISM....it's part of THEIR religious beliefs (not all of OURS). HIs taking from the Rich with his wealth redistribution, comes from some of the things that we have heard preached in his church about RICH WHITES oppressing BLACKS. He's got his head very full of some very radical RELIGIOUS and political ideas from some very radical people he's been around since early on in life to the begining of his campaign.
I guess I just find it so hard to believe that you have no issues with all of that.
Bush talked more of his religious beliefs and no one took birth control from women. He had two terms in office and made no attempt to do that. It's a phony scare tactic by the FAR LEFT.
