Famed journalist Bob Woodward, who broke the stories that brought down former president Richard Nixon, strikes again.
His latest book on the Bush administration will be released September 8, Politico's Mike Allen reports.
Apparently, the administration offered Woodward almost unfettered access. He sat down with President George W. Bush twice, and also interviewed Vice President Dick Cheney, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, and Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates.
One secret about what is contained within those 496 pages was revealed today - the title. The book will be called "The War Within." It had been listed as Untitled on Bush, Volume IV on Amazon.
But on most other counts, Woodward is staying mum. No one, including top administration officials, knows whether the book will offer a flattering portrait of the president. State of Denial, Woodward's last book, was very critical of the administration's war efforts.
"The War Within" is Woodward's 15th book, and his fourth about the Bush administration. The other three - "Bush at War" (2002), "Plan of Attack" (2004) and "State of Denial" (2006) - hit the top of the New York Times bestseller list.
The Washington Post, where Woodward is an associate editor, will print juicy excerpts in the coming weeks.
