ST PAUL - While Republicans stage their convention here in St. Paul, the presidential campaign battle rages in states such as Michigan, where the GOP's John McCain hopes to make Democrat Barack Obama pay for a struggling economy.
"Sales down, plants closing, jobs lost, family hurting,'' declares the narrator of the new McCain ad that his campaign and the Republican National Committee are running in Michigan. "Runaway gas prices have stalled Michigan's economy.
"Incredibly, Barack Obama and out-of-touch congressional leaders still oppose off shore drilling,'' the ad says, "So higher gas prices, more foreign oil.
"No drilling, no Michigan recovery
"Barack Obama, congressional liberals, not ready to lead.''
