PHILADELPHIA -- While touring a fire station in Philadelphia this morning, Sen. John McCain had this to say about the furor over his vice presidential pick:
"The vetting process was completely thorough, and I'm grateful for the results," McCain said at Engine Company 56 of the Philadelphia Fire Department.
As news leaked out yesterday that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin is enmeshed in an investigation into whether she tried to get her brother-in-law fired and that her oldest, unmarried daughter is pregnant, questions have been raised as to just how much vetting Palin received before McCain picked her.
McCain met Palin once in February at a Republican Governors' Association meeting before offering her the job of running mate last Thursday at his home in Sedona.
