There were reports today that the Sen. Joe Lieberman was banished by Sen. Majority Leader Harry Reid from the Senate Democratic Caucus luncheons in the aftermath of his appearance at the Republican National Convention where the Connecticut independent criticized Sen. Barack Obama and praised his long-time friend, Sen. John McCain.
Those reports are untrue, according to Reid's press secretary Jim Manley. Here's his press release:
REID SPOKESMAN STATEMENT ON FALSE SENATOR LIEBERMAN REPORTS
Washington, DC--Jim Manley, spokesman for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, made the following statement today regarding false reports that Senator Joe Lieberman is excluded from Democrats' future weekly caucus lunches:
"While it is no secret that the Democratic caucus is disappointed in Senator Lieberman's attacks on Senator Obama, the irresponsible report that Senator Lieberman has been excluded from caucus meetings is completely untrue. Senator Lieberman has chosen to not attend Democratic caucus lunches, and that is his choice."

He should be, Senator Reid !! I do respect your magnanimity, Senator Reid, but if I were you, the great leader of the Senate Democrats, I would show him the door. He has betrayed every Democratic ideal and for that alone, I would drum him out of our ranks. I bow to your wisdom, I will silently look upon him, with a jaundiced eye !!

Like Zell Miller before him Joe has very reasonably concluded that nothing good can come out of these luncheons so long as the Pelosi-Reid leadership is still in charge. Good for him.
John McCain once ate his lunch alone in the Senate cafeteria when his own party considered him a pariah, Joe. You're in good company.

Joe Leiberman is courageous.
He is UNafraid to stand up to his party and he is willing to suffer the consequences for doing so.
He is traveling abroad with McCain for a reason.
Leiberman knows McCain and that is why he stand with him.
