Playing field leveling afer conventions, but 'net plus' for Obama.

The Swamp

by Mark Silva

The conventions, so far, have been a "net plus'' for Democrat Barack Obama, according to an analysis by the Gallup Poll.

The latest results of the Gallup daily track today - a compilation of surveys taken over three days, including the last day of the Republican National Convention - show Obama favored among 48 percent of those surveyed and McCain 44 percent.

That's narrower than the advantage that Obama held the day before (49-42) and closer than the 8-point spread for Obama that Gallup found after his convention in Denver - his so-called "convention bounce.'' The two were dead-even in the daily tracks heading into their conventions two weeks ago.

So, it would seem that McCain's own convention this week is starting to level the playing field with his own convention bounce.

However, Gallup reports this: "Support for Obama since just before the Democratic National Convention kicked off on Aug. 25 has ranged from 44 percent to 50 percent, while McCain's support has ranged from 41 percent to 46 percent. Whereas the race was initially tied at 45 percent, Obama pulled into an eight-point lead at several points over the course of his convention.

"It now appears the Republican National Convention may be helping McCain to recoup some of his losses, though with Obama's current four-point lead, the entire convention period to this point has still been a net plus for Obama.

Today's results, from 2,779 interviews of registered voters Sept. 2-4, carry a possible margin of error of 2 percentage points.

Welcome back Swamp. Not much happened last couple of days. Oh...except for McBush folding like a diaper to the agents of intolerence and picking the worst choice to be a "heartbeat" away. This team will lead the way forward........to the 1800s. She is bookburner. She abused her power. She lied about earmarks and lobbyists. This is no maverick.....this is desperation from a desperate man. The rightious right has taken over the republican party, This wasn't who he wished to pick. Who is it exactly that is pulling the strings of this man? Yes...I would much rather trust the GOV from "Mooseville". For crying out loud people......they pay you to live there.

That's good news, but it's too early to tell. Only one night was conducted after Palin's speech and none after McCain's speech, although I can't imagine McCain's speech moved the numbers that much. I did not see Palin's speech but even my mom said it was good (and she LOVES Obama), so the Republicans may get more of a bounce in the next few days. I hope I'm wrong!

How could it be close?
AMERICA wake up.
Don't get fooled again.
Palin is no reformer.
She used lobbyists, took earmarks, led a 527 for Ted Stevens.

Bin Laden is still out there because some morons used our resources for a second stupid war.

This article is either misleading or the author wasn't very careful. The Gallup numbers include only the first post-Palin day. This means that two days pre-Palin are included. The Palin effect must have been considerable to cut Obama's lead in half with two pre-Palin days counted, as well. Silva needs to be more careful in his work. This page leaves a false impression on the uninformed reader. Was that the point?

It seems like it's still too early to compare results. By Monday, we should have a better idea if the RNC Convention has given McCain the same type of bounce as Obama...
However, most people don't start to really pay attention until the debates. We'll see what happens.

Welcome back Swamp and swamp monsters. Nothing new happening lately. Unless of course you wanted to talk about McBush and the worst VP pick ever. A real book burner ..this one. This team will lead us forward right in to the 1800s. Once again maverick McBush folds like a pancake to the extreme religious Jihaders on the right. Country first? You mean votes first. He wanted to pick someone else...who the hell is running the show over there? Between the 2, they have come up with some real answers why to vote FOR them. They just haven't told us yet. The Gov from "mooseville"....brilliant. She electrifies the jesus camp crowd and turns middle America off.

ps...Jeff...Have you read anything in that news paper you so highly recomended? You know...the National Enquirer?

Obama is still leading 60 to 40 in the electronic prediction markets where people put their money where their head tells them to, not their heart.

Ask the hockey mom about the money for the bridge to no where she said thanks but no thanks for the money. WAKE UP she took the money and scraped the bridge where is the money.

America wake up!!! you will pay if you put does fools back in the white house. [I WARN YOU]

I like the pre-Palin idea, sounds like archeology and paleontology. Perfect as she indeed is from the dark ages.

I mean, who needs a pit bull for VP? America needs a smart and courageous person. Not an upstart smart ass spewing outrageous mockery of an upstanding opponent and sowing divisiveness in the name of unity. She and McCain are galling.

Fooliani is just an idiot - a bully in the sandbox. Say a few ugly things and give a huge friendly smile as if that's okay.

If and when they get to the issues, I will tune back in to see what more they have to say. In the end, this is a test for America not for McCain or Obama. Do they have the courage to be bigger than themselves? Are they capable of that cosmopolitan view that Rudy so uglifies? Are they capable of opening their minds and hearts to each other? Are they capable of fueling the unity and growth of their country. Can they indeed give back for a cause greater than themselves and the selfish petty character destruction politics of the right?

Indeed, the face of the "selfless right" as can be seen from this convention is really the face of the self righteous and the selfish right.

I see the Obamabots are in full panic mode - trashing the canidates because they can't win on the issues. BO is a little upset now that the spotlight isn't on him and other polls have the race a statistical dead-heat. In 60 days, Down will go the Obama-Reid-Pelosi adminstration. No more Obama bin Biden.

How can the Repubs expect their ratings to go up witht the recent choice of VP...Totally wrong choice...Yeah he may pick up some voters but is gonna lose a lot also..Not everyone wants to stay at war or hunt moose...Regardless how good looking she may be she has not got the experience for the possible 3 am call. GOD FORBID!!!!.What was McCain thinking..With those two I guess they expect the birth rate to skyrocket and no one will be able to get an abortion no matter what the cause is. SAD CHOICE!!!!!...As a woman I was hoping our first female VP or President would have experience, strenghs, empathy,a born leader. Not a person that brags that she is a fighter, hunter and is able to change a government like she is a magic genie'.Those things are ok as long as they are not your main resume. Also not enough education for the job.I think McCain should cut his losses and pick a VP that the people feel are qualified for the job. Not just a " fast learner"...

Another Swamp item refers to Palin as "Caribou Barbie." Based on her history, I think that "Taliban Barbie" might be more accurate.

At the end of the day, the Palin choice helped solidify Obama's standing with the wavering Hillary supporters. There is nothing like a snarky, radical right hypocrite to make you remember why you were a democrat in the first place. Thank you, John McCain!

Just wait until the debates...McCane is no orater, Obama is...Palin knows squat...Biden will chew her to pieces.

billr... jeff is still in St. Paul...probably in Larry Craig's stall tapping his foot. We'll see how the polls go when Sarah Palin is allowed to actually talk, and when the truth of some of the rumors are known.

Yes Terry...Now your candidates can enjoy "the limelight". I imagine once the media gets done vetting the new VP, since McBush obviously didn't, you'll be more than happy to give up the "limelight" that you have been craving. Let me see....you predicted McBush was...what did you say? Toast ...back in ....what? November?

I have lived through too many Democratic administrations to trust any of them. The Kennedy's bumbled through the Cuban missile crisis, Carter led the first gas price increases and 20% interest rates and the Monica Clintons, what a joke. Give me a strong conservative and this country will be safe and better off.

What worries me the most about Palin is her affiliation with the AIP. It is well known, and many Alaskans would admit proudly, that they are Alaskans first, Americans second. Palin may not have America's interest in mind. If she is elected VP or inherits the Presidency, we may see federal land, rich in oil go to Alaska. Would secession be far behind?

I have a special needs child and I can tell you, less than 6 months after giving birth, a woman does NOT have the time, energy or even the mental clarity to give even 50% much less 100% to even a clerical or factory position, much less the Vice Presidency or possibly the Presidency of the U.S. Everyone should consider the exhaustion of a new mother and remember that you have to multiply that times 10 with a special needs child. On top of that, Sarah's 15 year old is about to give birth and will desparately need her mom's help. There is NO WAY a woman can effectively parent her special needs child AND a new grandchild born to a teen mom who is still a child herself and give even 50% to her job at the same time. McCain is old and is life will be negatively impacted by his grevious injuries suffered as a POW.l It is HIGHLY likely he will not survive another 8 years - in fact I seriously doubt any life insureance company would write him a new policy at 72. Do we really want a PART-TIME, scattered mom/grandma with no experience trying to run the U.S. part time and breast feed the rest of the time? Also, what if Sarah gets pregnant again? Seriously, would you even hire this woman to be your maid under these conditions? I wouldn't expect her to show up for work if I did - not EVERY day. Not on time without lots of excuses about her baby or her daughter's needing granny JUST THIS ONCE for this errand or that....
WE NEED A FULL TIME PRESIDENT

What does this say about our beloved republic, that a party has the gall to attack a brilliant proven candidate who has a record of achievement in community, intellectual and sustained public service through the voice of a deceptive, strident, inexperienced, hypocrtical, ruthless young woman? The party that has attacked Clinton for her gender screams sexism when Palin is investigated for her positions. But no one in the party screams racism when Palin tears into Obama. As a senior citizen feminist, I am in despair at such blatent prejudice, such dishonest politics. That McCain and his newest woman now parrot Obama's lines on bringing change to Washington does not make them change agents but sheer duplicitous gameplayers, lacking all integrity. For McCain it is clearly country last, McCain first. His harping on his POW years is a sickening self-serving self-aggrandizement. It is the false hero first, and dangerously, for all of us, country last.

Imagine our Vice President, speaking to our children at school or better yet, to children in Europe or Asia. What will be the opinion of the parents and teachers when she tells them that the Earth is only 6,000 yrs old and Cave Men rode on Dinosaurs.... that fossils are all fake...that Science does not know anything. That the only Science they will ever need is the Bible.
We will once again be the laughing stock of the world.

And deserving of it.

Come on Americans, the parents in Kansas threw out the entire school board for trying to teach pseudo science to their children.

I guess its no longer a bad thing to have "star" power unless your an organizer from the South Side.

America will not reward complete Republican failure.

Not this time.

The almost certain win of McCain/Palin on November 4th will bring about some colorful changes to the White House.

The rose Bush garden will be decorated with a flock of plastic pink flamingos, curtains will be yellow with rust-colored flowers, and state dinners will feature frozen pizzas followed by marijuana brownies for dessert.

Le trash c'est chic.

You gotta love the swamp. Zogby, Rasamussen, and CBS have all released polls in the last 2 days showing the race is back to even yet the swamp posts the only 1 of 4 that shows Obama with a 4pt lead still. As someone who is a reluctant McCain supporter more based on being Anti Obama I could care less about Palin however for right now it looks like a brilliant choice. It has brought them back to a tie in the polls and I am sure once the full GOP convention is in those polls McCain will have a slight lead, but more importantly the Palin pick has ignited the GOP like I havent see all summer. Today over 22,000 people came to see McCain and Palin in the battleground state., Trust me that never happened when McCain was by himself. THey were lucky if they ever got 1500. More people watched McCains speech than Obama and McCains speech was on 3 less channels than Obamas was. This is the worst thing that could have happened for the Obamabots and they know it. FOr the first time in this election the excitement on the GOP side is even bigger than the excitement on the Democrats side. Obama has already abandoned his stratagy of competing in the southern states and thinking he can win the election w/out winning Ohio, He just stopped running ads in GA, MS. and AL and rerouted all the money to Ohio where he is going to lose. McCain does not have to do anything except win both Florida and Ohio and he will win the election. Right now he leads in both states. G Bush (who I never voted for) was able to beat Kerry due to his overwhelming support from small time America. Palin is a huge boost for McCain in that regard. FOr the first time in this election I am very confident that McCain is going to win.

Seems to me McCain had a lot more (white) hair last night for the Big Speech than he did today at his rally?

Am I right???

when will mrs moose meet the press? or is she going to hide under mcbush coat tails for the next sixty days?

At this point, I feel that the only way to continue, is that the conservatives and liberals split AMerica into 2 countries. Then we all can live in peace. The conservatives can start wars and tell others what to do. The liberals can continue
to progress toward a peaceful web of life. Oh--just like God planned.

Great to have The Swamp back!!!!! It has been an eventful week. No telling where the polls will go now. But the Gallup Daily is making a case that there is a "Palin Bounce." Another interesting number to check is at http://www.boppoll.com. McCain still has not broken 450,000 and Obama is over 1,000,000. Don't forget to register to vote!!!! Why were you guys down. It seems like it was almost intentional. Ooooo! Scary! Con Spir Acy!

Hey all you liberal pot-smokers, it is your candidates who are out of touch with the American mainstream. Mark my words, love him or hate him, McCain will win come November. The USA will never vote in 2 liberals to the White House.....even with the entire media championing their cause. Lay off the drugs and join us back here on planet Earth.

As a conservative,I have been upset with the pick with McCain but moore and moore i was starting to lean his way. Then came an angle in Gov.Palin and now im on board!Thank you John McCain, our republican party is now born again!!!!!

Both McCain and Palin are control freaks. They really do compliment each other.

Hey, OPER Its THOSE not does fools, FOOL!!! I warn you. Go back to school and learn how to spell!!Go McCain-Palin!!!

I read many of these comments. And I'm struck by the lack of substance from the comments on the Republican side...i.e.-someone will mention Palin's extreme anti-environmental policies, her tendency to censor free speech and use her power in office for personal gain...not even getting into the anti-choice position she had.

No, Republicans say she is a wonderful mother...how can this be proven? Years later, her kids will be able to tell us about that, but we really know nothing now. Logic goes out the window with these people.

check out this article...all facts, no conflation:

McCain still has not broken 450,000 and Obama is over 1,000,000. >

Libs are in deep trouble, 35 million Christians are still on the sidelines, they will all vote McCain as well as half of Hillary's 18 million.

McCain should win in a landslide, by at least 5 points.

but we really know nothing now.>

You're right, liberals know nothing, especially about the fundamentals of life.

I have lived through too many Repugnantcan administrations to trust any of them. Nixon got impeached, er, resigned, Reagan got caught subverting the constitution and lied about it and ran up the largest deficit in history (at the time) and now Dubya will go down as the worst president ever. Give me a strong progressive president such as Barack Obama and this country will be safe and better off.

Finally, after two centuries of struggle, White Trash will be in the White House and in power.

The truth is out. Trailer trash is no longer a pejorative, but a matter of pride. Broadly smiling, bright red lips, glossy cheeks, Trash Queen Barbie Palin will represent the nation in the civilized world scene.

This promises to be fun.

"McCain still has not broken 450,000 and Obama is over 1,000,000. >

Will you (mostly) R posters please stop using fallacious arguments. (name calling, ad homenum, etc.). Have you ever heard of “critical thinking”? How about the value of education? Being intellectual and figuring out how government policies and actions affect our daily lives is not a bad thing! Emotions are OK, but if they’re not backed up by reason, they won’t convince anyone who stops to think.

I agree with prior posts that discuss an extreme split between the “left” and “right”. I disagree that most people care or identify with either; most people are only “political” at election time. On the other hand, most people are very well aware of how “policies” by federal, state and local governments affect them on a daily basis. That’s a great deal of the problem in America—the lack of politics in the electoral interim. Community organizing is a GOOD THING. Come on, THINK!

What bothers me most about America’s current (and decades long) political discourse is the anti-intellectual and non-critical thinking aspects. If you will each who reads this please just look at which candidates (at ALL levels) are going to actually represent your interests, the choice is obvious.

Please vote in 2008. We cannot afford not to.

Half of Hillary's 18 million - now you are certainly dreaming!!!!

Women are too smart to be fooled by the radid, censoring, anti-choice, anti-environmental, religious right FREAK that is Sarah Palin. Look inside her and GW and they are cut from the exact same cloth. Haven't we had enough after 8 years?!!
I sure have ...
Maybe you'll get 5 of those Christian conservative Hillary supporters - don't you get it that this woman is nothing CLOSE to Hillary. It's pathetic to mention them in the same sentence.

All the more reason to vote Obama/Biden 08 - for a government we can finally be proud of!

As far as I can tell the Palin selection--and McCain's tepid speech--have done two things:

1. Pulled a lot of the far-right voters back into the fold for the GOP. These people largely live in states that were going to vote McCain anyway. You see that reflected in the somewhat closer National Average polls. People in Utah, Idaho, etc. are on board now, and those states are seeing higher McCain totals than they were...but they were already higher than Obama before the Palin pick.

2. Obama has actually increased his lead in most Delegate maps. My favorite is at www.electoral-vote.com if anyone is interested. At that site Obama has gone from about 278 EVs to over 300 since before both conventions.

This would suggest that McCain throwing the moderates and liberals he might have won over under the bus in the name of "playing to the base" has actually pushed those voters to the Dems. Many of these people live in states like New Mexico, Ohio and Florida.

So McCain has picked up voters, and Obama has picked up voters. The "undecided" faction is shrinking.

The problem for McCain is that the voters Obama has targeted...and McCain has ironically delivered...are the ones that matter most.

I like and respect John McCain, and strongly believe the biggest mistake this country has made in my lifetime was not nominating him in 2000. He would have beaten Gore...and done a terrific job. However, it's eight years too late, and there are no do-overs.

The Republicans will never blame themselves, of course. It'll be the "angry left" or the "liberal media" who they will blame for their defeat.

And Klondike Barbie will return to the Yukon to burn some more Kurt Vonnegut.

Please,

Palin got the contest won for the Republicans. Just accept it. That was history. Obmo is lost and the losers know it.

Simple and done.

Let's hear from the Christian LEFT, shall we? Obama is the candidate for social justice. How do so many American Christians blow off the "love your neighbor" gig? To me this means feeding them, making sure they have jobs and a chance for housing and health care, oh, and maybe a place for their children to live that hasn't been destroyed by greed. Palin wants to take polar bears off the endangered species list so we can drill in ANWAR. This isn't new or fresh -- it's same-old same-old. Big oil, special interests, GREED. America should be bigger than this. Especially if we still want to be considered a "Christian" country!

katyb, the reason people don't bother responding is that the "facts" you cite (such as the linked article) are devoid of reality.
Sure, the planet is warming; it has warmed before; it's coming out of a 400 year freeze. Notice that the cited article talks about "record" warming... since 1979? Scientists are arguing whether it was just was warm...or much warmer...only 1000 years ago. No coal burning plants back then. There is zero evidence that man knows how to turn back the warming, let alone that we're the cause of it. We don't even know if planting trees will help or hurt. I'm not a denier, I'm saying science doesn't know. So taking action that may harm just as much as help is no solution.
Bottom line: Sarah's just being practical. Yes, drill. AND build solar, wind and nuclear. AND find new sources. AND conserve.

This Christian woman isn't voting for McCain/Palin for a million dollars. And I sure could use that million dollars.

The republican party has moved so far away from Christain values that there are a lot of us that feel the same way. They have ceased to value all of God's creation and abdicated the role of steward assigned to us. I'm a values voter, and I'm voting for the party that values the earth, it's creatures, and values all families and people, not just for the profit they could make, or because they believe or look or love the same as them. I'm voting for the democrats, and unless a miracle occurs, I will probably never vote for another republican in my lifetime.

Palin may have energized the Christian conservative base, but I have to wonder how a speech with little of charity or compassion, and a healthy sprinkling of lies can energize those who claim to follow Christ, except to condemn it. I have to wonder if good people have not been lied to and led astray from true Christian behavior into a selfish and arrogant mouthing of pious words in the service of power hungry leaders seeking control.

BTW, katyb, where are the substantial democratic responses to the facts - not allegations - about Obama's ties/leadership of truly scary socialist-and-worse organizations, and where are the factual responses showing how he intends to pay for his farther-left-than-socialist policies?

The Obamas were founders of, and still promote, Public Allies. Where's the hue and cry?

Obamas promote and lead ACORN --the "community organizers" convicted (not just accused) of voter fraud, embezzlement, and who bear much responsibility for "organizing" loans that led to the current housing crisis. Where's the hue and cry?

Obamas-- why do they get away with saying it's no big deal they are friends with Weatherman Ayers -- a guy who still thinks attacks on police and government officials are "no big deal?"

Obama imagines our nation can pay for "guaranteed" health care, "free" college, paid "universal national service", "free" job training for all, "free" pay-level (wage) insurance, "free" child care and preschool, even more housing subsidies, not to mention government-matched retirement plans (i.e. not your employer), Where's the facts brought to light?

See, Obama has a few problems with the facts of his life. Not just allegations. But the dems and the MSM are clueless. Palin has a problem with clueless MSM making allegations. Why bother responding... after all, the MSM goes along with Obama's bid to silence all opposition.

Free speech is only free as long as it is supported for everyone. Obama wants to destroy the rights of all who oppose him. He's great at the slow, insidious, "say whatever is needed to gain power" mode of operation taught by his mentor Alinsky. (Where's the hue and cry and that? Talk about ends-justifies-means!)

katyb, I should thank you: your question has taken me from mild concern about Obama to truly passionate alarm that this nation is being drained of its greatness by selfish, immoral, marxist "organizers" like Obama.

"BO is a little upset now that the spotlight isn't on him and other polls have the race a statistical dead-heat."

Last night, Pollster.com was showing 260 electoral votes "strongly for" or "leaning toward" Barack Obama, or nearly enough to win the election. I wouldn't call that a statistical dead heat.

Jesus was a community organizer -- Pontius Pilate was a Governor.

McCain convention was all about Obama so how can Mccain add points.

I am floored that after 8 years of Bush, the American people might still let the GOP pull the wool over their eyes. It seems that McCain has the press in his pocket because there doen't seem to be any scrutiny over who Palin is or why they are so desperately trying to keep her and the press separated. If the McCain/Palin Tkt wins, we all might have to beg Palin to teach us how to survive in the wilderness and hunt and cook moose, because most of us will surely be left out in the cold with no food.

Why is it that conservatives like Mr.Pete never do their homework when it comes to issues that weaken their arguments? After googling "global warming man-made" I found this link to a story from 2005 about a huge collaborative scientific study funded by the US govt. (www.commondreams.org/headlines05/0219-01.htm)
showing that it is unequivocal that global warming over the last 40 years is directly linked to the increase in air pollution. The study went on to find that the warming of the oceans is where the evidence for this link lies, as well as the source for the environmental danger that this warming has caused. The study involved scientists from the US Department of Energy, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California and the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in San Diego.Mr. Pete should also do some of his own investigations on the right-wing views that Sarah Palin has like suing the US govt for trying to put polar bears on the endangered species list because it will interfere with oil drilling, not because their populations are thriving and don't need protection, but because it gets in the way of development! Like Mr.Pete, Palin also does not believe global warming is man-made, but then again she doesn't believe in evolution and chooses to ignore the scientific evidence for that too!! Is this the kind of ignorance we should tolerate from our leaders? One other thing about politicians associations with others, McCain has made up with Jerry Falwell and we know all the stupid things he has said about natural disasters being God's punishment for sinners, don't we Mr. Pete?

America will not got back to the 1800s. America will not elect another ultra right wingnut in office after the last 8 years. For every person Palin excites, she scares. Believe that.

The RNC convention confirmed to me just how out of touch and scary they've become. I am so glad people tuned in to see the difference in the America's shown in the two conventions.
America is becoming increasingly diverse yet, you would have no clue of that watching the GOP convention.

Right now, the GOP and Palin cultists (and it's SO funny that they tried to say that about Obama's supporters LOL Obama has at least made a case for himself for the last year!! Palin pops up for two days and these folks act like zombies!! Scary!) are like the South trying to fight desegregation in the schools. That's what watching the GOP convention felt like to me. It felt very exclusive. In Denver there was hope and people of all colors and creeds coming together.

The GOP is the party of the past funded by ultra right wingnuts and propped up by Karl Rove.

One thing Palin did do was show just how scary a Mccain administration would be. And because of that, I signed up as an Obama volunteer for the first time this week. I am getting my family and friends to sign up too! I hate politics but there's too much at stake this election to sit on the sidelines and let a GOP ticket worse than Bush take over. Oh hell no!!!

When the polls even out and stabilize, Obama will still be ahead. And as long as nothing crazy happens, he will win in November because he simply appeals to broader elements of our country at this time in history. The increase in diversity favors him and will put him over the top. Mark my words.

I live in Alaska. She is worse than you know. Terry also needs to learn how to spell. Not knowing how to do that makes dumb comments stupid. Alaska is willing to take one for the team and keep her if the rest of you grow a brain and reject McCain. You have no IDEA how awful this dame is.

Well, what do you think the results will be when people find out that Hockey Mask Mom is a budding serial killer?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGPFPBmzRrQ

John McCain's bounce will show on Monday. Currently, I believe an ABC poll that came out today shows that McCain and Obama are tied. McCain's moving up. When I read individuals posting in reference to McBush, my first impression is a lack of analytical analysis or possibly reverting back to childhood and doing name calling. It does not impress anyone - in fact I think it is a turnoff. McCain is very different from Bush. If I were to say to individuals I know that Obama is Jimmy Carter they would look at me puzzled. However, if I stated for example, I have major concerns about Obama and the ability to make decisions and lead based on the fact that in the IL Senate he voted present 130 times opposed to taking a stand on those 130 issues and when watching his performance during the Saddleback debates he was extremely wishy-washy and not confidence, knowledgeable and direct - they may at least respect my conversation with them even if they did not agree. Note: Name calling is not attractive.

This poll shows that McCain has never gone over 45%.

On the other hand, 45% appears to be Obama's low point throughout.

I am convinced that all McCain has done is secure votes he already had, and it is not enough.

The conservative wing is energized (as shown here on this message board), but they are not enough to matter.

My first choice was for Hillary Clinton. I knew all the hard work she has already done. I can not believe the news stating that because we are women we will vote for Palin.....no way, there is nothing the same except they both are women and had babies. I would like to say that I love what Obama stands for and we do need the change....get real...

Just the news about what went on with demonstrators at the DNC and RNC makes the choice fairly simple. The folks who chose violence to protest the RNC didn't do Obama any favor. I'd prefer to not cast my vote for those who tolerate criminals, i.e., Democrats.

Democrats aren't given credit for being fair minded when it comes to watching both conventions. Many Democrats watched both conventions to get a grip on what is being said at both. Being informed is what it's all about.

Why is people so upset about this numbers? aren't the elections win by electoral votes? I just wanted to say as an independant I was torn between Obama and McCain after Palin my mind is clear. I'm voting Obama. I feel that mccain pick this women just because she is a women, that's not something that I want in a leader for this country. In the other hand Obama could have pick Clinton but he stay true to all that he believes.

Vinny ...

How does it feel to be a biggot??

i am a raging liberal democrat.

compost-lover, universal health care-backing, pro-choice all the way, blue stater. and i am voting for mccain. why? please ask obama, who, unlike mccain, did not have the BALLS to pick a woman to be his veep. i don't care if it comes out that palin is a ku klux klan member who likes to drag hispanics behind her pickup truck. this liberal democrat is voting for mccain, b/c obama, let's face it, is a total blowhard who has zero experience, and on top of that, he has no principles or courage.

mccain will be a decent prez; can we say the same about obama? no! what the hell has he done? nothing!
obama does not belong in the white house, but he'd be great on the book circuit. yeah, that's it. maybe he could write yet ANOTHER memoir, since has has such EXTENSIVE LIFE EXPERIENCE!

memo to the obama camp: i am not the only liberal who feels this way

I haven't believed the polls since I read the info at Election Defense Alliance. It seems the pollsters BUILD IN a right-slanting "fudge factor" to increase the odds that their predictions will eventually turn out to be 'correct'. Pollsters who consistently fail to predict all the recent Republican 'wins' lose their credibility and are soon out of business. Of course, no one would THINK that the raw (unadjusted) polls are accurate and therefore the election results are "wrong", would they? Even with electronic voting machines with secret software made by profit-oriented Republican-friendly companies (who count 80% of the votes cast in this country) - such an idea just doesn't occur to ANYONE?

Most other democracies have scrapped electronic voting and gone back to hand-marked paper ballots which are then publicly hand counted at the polling places. Winners are predicted by exit polls, which are reliably very accurate. OUR votes, on the other hand, go into black boxes (which make any kind of "paper trail" they’re told to) and are then transmitted over phone and internet lines (remember “telecom immunity,” anyone?) to reach the tabulation centers, which use all kinds of hackable software to count them!

Still think it's OK for the NSA to spy on your internet and phone messages - all in the name of catching ‘terrorists’? What better way to find out your political leanings - (your favorite websites, which causes you donate to, the clubs you belong to, your magazine subscriptions, etc)? And all your financial records are accessible (this government has to watch out for "terrorist funds" being moved around, don't they?). Discrimination at the polls from now on will be primarily by income, (how else does one keep the rich in power over the poor?), so obvious evidence of racial, religious, cultural, etc. voter suppression will be harder to catch. Your vote will be weeded out by algorithm. Resistance is futile. To avoid complete assimilation, read the "polls" with large quantities of salt, and remember that none of this was ever about terrorism.

The only good way out of this is to go back to doing it by hand, and neither party wants to give We the Rabble quite that much control. They won’t give up the Electoral College either. Meanwhile, welcome to the hive.

As a lifetime Alaskan I take offense to the suggestion that many of us consider ourselves Alaskans before Americans. While Alaska is truely a very unique state, we would be NOTHING if we were not part of the USA. We are a VERY patriotic state and we stand behind gov. Palin. She is an amazing woman... don't under estimate her.
Anybody that steps up and reforms corruption will have their fair share of disgruntled folks trying to discredit them. 85% of Alaskans are happy with her. The allegations have already been explained- you have been to busy watching the liberal/Obama media.

Clearly, given the lukewarm crowds McCain was attracting, the only reason he and Palin got so many viewers was because a vast majority were Obama Democrat supporters checking out the competition... The Dems have done more to energize the electorate than any campaign in recent history... McCain is just lucky Obama is participating in the debates ;-) - that is where the next president will be decided on. VOTE!

The Gov. bragged about selling the Gov. jet on ebay, when is she going to sell one of McCains houses on ebay. How many are going to sell be looking on ebay. WAKE UP AMERICA do you want McBush and a hocky mom from mooseville if so learn how to cook moose and like it because thats all you will get.

Polar bears are drowning due to Polar Ice Caps melting and breaking away in the Arctic but Sarah Palin is unconcerned about the plight of dying bears.

She denies global warming and wants to drill for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. After all she enjoys killing animals herself, even shooting wolves from a helicopter. Aren't Christians supposed to have compassion for all of God's creatures?

Fellow Democrats and Obama supporters, let us not get caught up in the heat of these stupid comments by people trying to create issues where there are none. The Republicans know they cannot win this election and will do anything to take us off our course and goal of assuring that Obama becomes the 44th President of the United States of America. So forget their smears and lies, which are not true. We need to go out there and campaign for our candidate. Convert those independents and undecided voters and get them on to Obama’s tickets. We don’t need to waste our time responding to this rubbish - our time should be spent on the campaign trail. A lot of bloggers and people making comments are just pretending to be Democrats or PUMA supporters or even Republicans who are just working to incite and create issues and friction. Obama has shown us how to handle these issues - with calm and dignity. Come On Dems, don’t get caught up in this BS. McCain and Palin are just another bump on the road, which we will flatten.
YES WE CAN!

I think Obama would be the better choice for president, even though the polls reveal that the votes are coming to a close tie. Conservatives appear to be less involved in economy. But they are more strict socially, so if a law was broken, there is less tolerance for a nation based on the belies of a conservative rather than a liberal. In other words, the conservative belief that "the money you worked hard for should belong to you," is connected to the government's involvement in the social lives of people. If someone was to break or offend the law by accident or intention, it would at least result in a fine. And since conservatives are more strict on the social lives of people ( in this example, people who break or offend laws) wouldn't that result in higher fines; its not taxing. Basically, a vote for the conservative results in a government that has less tolerance for the social life of people, but at the same time, it opens an opportunity for the conservatives to find other ways to charge the people financially.

Obama-Biden are the best american candidates for next november. Culture, education, back grounds, excellent projects about economy, education, energy, health care, etc. This is the kind of experience we need. They will be the winners, they will change the present dramatic situation. God blees them.
