Sarah Palin returns to Alaska:

The Swamp

by Mark Silva

Sarah Palin proves that you really can go home again.

Particularly when you are the governor of one of the most remote states in America, and the party tbat elected you here has now named you as its nominee for vice president

That's the "first dude,'' Todd Palin, stepping off the plane with the governor-presidential running mate on their celebrated return to Fairbanks following a campaign swing with Sen. John McCain. This is her first appearance on her own as nominee.

"We've been carrying our message of reform to the American people, and we've been talking all about Alaska,'' she tells the homecoming crowd. "Sen. McCain knows that we've done some shaking up, up here in Alaksa, and he likes to say that we're a team of mavericks.''

She also strikes a note on oil drilling: "We will drill now to make this nation more energy independent.''

Drill, baby, drill, as they said at the GOP convention. And the crowd eats it up.

"She's one of us,'' one man says, "She's a regular Alaskan.''

Her next homecoming event: A departure ceremony for her son, Track, who enlisted in the Army a year ago today, on Sept. 11, and soon will deploy with his unit for Iraq.

Of course, Palin has been joined by a regular army of opposition researchers who are sifting through Alaska's records in search of the full story on McCain's popular running mate. And Palin will sit for her first interview with the national news media, a widely anticipated talk with ABC News' Charlie Gibson.

"regular army of opposition researchers"

Thats a nice way to put it. Do you mean a team of 30 lawers that Obama and the Dnc sent there to dig up dirt on Sarah?

The Dems are starting to run scared, It's getting quite amusing.

When the debates are over, people will reflect upon the importance of their vote and where we've been as a nation. Working moms will realize that the Palin choice was pure and simple profile politicking and see that McCain is going to take this country exactly where it's already been the past eight years.

LATEST SCOOP>Youtube said it was forced to take down the McCain lipstick ad because they say they were told they didn't have legal rights to show the portion with the Katie Curric clip.

However, it's still on McCain's web site.

The ad shows just a small section of what Katie C. was saying about sexism, Obama, etc..... I found the entire segment and it actually would have been even better had McCain played her entire segment. .

You can put lipstick on an inexperienced community organizer, but it's still an inexperienced community organizer.

Sarah, you go, girl!

abcnews,
please have gibson do a real interview. our country needs honesty. palin has brought this presidential race to a new level of deception. unfortunately, many people are easily duped. thank you for your coverage (8/29) of her "stretched truths" and lies in her nomination acceptance speech. but you need to go further. abc news is also guilty of stretching the truth when they don't tell us that there were many more partial truths in her speech. your article made it sound like those were the only ones.
thank you

I am a working mom and I have family who lives in Alaska and has lived in Alaska for at least 16 years. I will never support Palin just on the basis of being a working mom. She lacks everything except the working mom classification. I can't believe even republicans are OK with this war that should have never started, republicans are OK with paying on average $4.00 for 1 gallon of gas even when the cost of oil has fallen below $100 per barrel, republicans are OK with being in Iraq for the next 100 years (wipe out all of our troops black and white)
On voting day I would hope as a mother of 2 that women and men will look at the candidates and choose the person who will make their lives and their children's lives better. I only ask people to make an intelligent decision based on facts and politics not because one candidate is a working mom. Who by the way hasn't had much time to do anything else other than be a working mom, which is why she's a Mayor in one of the smallest cities on the map. Come on, let's get real could she come to Chicago and run Chicago. Not that Daley is doing such a great job, but he doesn't qualify to be president and neither does she.

And from what I here the majority of Alaskans don't even support Palin like the select few they've chosen to interview. She would rather spend millions on air hunting than a real police department for the publics safety.
PS the town dignitaries serving as volunteers doesn't suffices as Public Safety--at least Daley knows that"

ABC is the Sarah network for the next 5 days... or more...Charlie Gibson introduces a new show "Good Morning Alaska." If they ask the questions we need answered, I'll be surprised.

I'm already tired of the BS being dished out and it's not even October... isn't it rather audacious to call this change? Is this really the best we have to offer during a presidential campaign? Is this really the best the media can offer in terms of a solid journalistic effort? Perhaps this kind of campaign is truly the Bush/Rove legacy. What a shame.

Dear Dave, and you know this because you have paperwork that shows for a fact that Obama campaign and the Democrats hired this people to do it...no probe no facts...hear say or repeating the same crap everyone else does that is against it...

Go Sarah, go!

Gov. Palin is acting like a celebrity wherever she goes. She wants preconditions on her interviews and won't do any unless she gets them. She deigns her greatness only on those who dare not challenge her record. She is Bush-Cheney-McCain all wrapped up into a single package.

Dave, see, the difference between Democrats and Republicans is that Democrats do research to find out the truth about the opposition candidates. The Republicans just make lies up about their opponents, and can't even be bothered to research their own choices for VP. Now do you get it?

I guess Sarah is back in Alaska to get back to intimidating anyone who might have some dirt on her.

Karl Rove has a fascinating guest editorial in the Wall Street Journal this morning that truly says a lot about the Palin phenomenon. The bottom line is that Obama has been acting as if he were running against Palin and not McCain. When Dan Quale became the butt of Dem jokes, the electorate came out for Bush in a landslide. The target is McCain and not Palin.

Dave wrote: "Gov. Palin is acting like a celebrity wherever she goes. She wants preconditions on her interviews and won't do any unless she gets them."

Michelle Obama had preconditions on the interview when she appeared on The View. (And she's not even running for anything!)

Exactly, Bleu. Michelle Obama isn't running for anything, so she doesn't owe anyone anything. Stick to the issues and the candidates, why don't you?

Uh oh. More lies from the McSame camp?

McCain’s camp makes an ad from the lying mind of John Fund.

It’s no surprise, then, that Democrats have airdropped a mini-army of 30 lawyers, investigators and opposition researchers into Anchorage, the state capital Juneau and Mrs. Palin’s hometown of Wasilla to dig into her record and background. My sources report the first wave arrived in Anchorage less than 24 hours after John McCain selected her on August 29.

The usual round of zombie brains like Hannity picked it up.

The DNC has refuted this allegation by Fund.

Michael Gehrke, research director of the Democratic National Committee, scoffed at all of this: “Sadly, I don’t have 30 lawyers, researchers, investigators or even wolves at my disposal. We have sent a grand total of zero people to Alaska to research Governor Palin. We’ve got all these McCain houses to keep track of. “

The ironic thing - which you all reported - is that the only people who sent lawyers to Alaska to research Palin was the McCain camp, who belatedly thought it was a good idea to vet her after they picked her to be one heartbeat away from the leader of the free world.”

Dave and Patrick, if you are going to bring up interviews and preconditions then surely you will be fair and mention the fact the Bill O'reiley had to sign numerous different documents and agree in advance of the kind of questions he could and could not ask Obama. It works both ways and there is nothing more pathetic than when partisan hacks as yourself only tell half the story. ALso as for softball interviews Kieth Oblermans interview of Obama is a perfect example. Obama and Palin are very similar in almost every way, with little experience, great speeches, and very carefully crafted images. Obama never makes himself available to the press on an ad hoc basis. I love it when Obamabots complain about the fake outrage of McCain to the lipstick-gate but fail to mention that the Obama campaign did the same thing to the Clintons with faking racial outrage over Bills fairytale remark. It is a joke and I hate this time of year. I get it, when your guy does it its ok but when the other side does it its dirty and shameless. What goes around come around.

Patrick, do you think Michelle Obama would have been on The View if she were not campaigning for her inexperienced, empty suit husband? No, she would not have. So as his representative, she put conditions on the interview. Once again, the Obama supporters can dish it out, but they can't take the same thing thrown right back at them.

MinisterR,
I'm sure you know this but 6 of the last eight years were a republican controlled congress under the leadership of Tom Delay, David Vitter, Larry Craig, Bob Ney, Duke Cunningham, and Ted Stevens.

Interested in knowing how picking Biden as VP candidate is profile politicking.

I'm not sure if this whole "past 8 years" thing is such a good idea..If you mean how we haven't been attacked since 9/11/01 or how the home values have gone up, the economy has had an extended positive run and I am far better off than I was 8 years ago, yes please continue THAT! Just because the economy has slowed of late, that's what happens every few years (without fail) and that's where the saying "save for a rainy day" makes sense. Get all the corruption, at least some, out of Washington and the individuals will take care of themselves.

This just in: Well, it’s official. The Democratic National Committee has ceased to exist. That’s right, on 09-11-08, the 7th anniversary of the 09-11-01 attacks, the DNC for lack of a better analogy, has been relegated to the dustbin of history. Wherein, it has joined such notables as the former Soviet Union, mood rings, and disco. So long DNC, it’s been real. America needs a two-party system, but the DNC could run on fumes for only so long. It’s up to Barack Obama to restructure the platform. And, perhaps he’s the man for the job. Now the DNC sputtered along nursing its panoply of grievances, eye poking, finger pointing, hair pulling, nail splitting, and head butting from which it garnered a more than substantial income. But shortly after 09-11-01, the DNC also collapsed into a pile of smoke & rubble. Did most Democrats / Liberals truly have nothing in common with, and dislike the very people they relied on to get them elected? D’oh! What happened and why, will no doubt be fodder for more practiced wits than my own; but one thing’s certain: the DNC is finished, the Democratic Party is over.
