ST. PAUL - In the news biz, headlines are everything.
"Babies, Lies and Scandal,'' reads the cover headline on US Weekly magazine.
It's about Gov. Sarah Palin, Sen. John McCain's running mate.
The one who takes the stage of the Republican National Convention tonight to tell her own story line to a nation wondering who this newcomer is and what she's all about.
"Back on Jan. 15, Alaska governnor Sarah Palin appeared on KWHL-FM's The Bob & Mark Show, a shock-jock show in Anchorage,'' as the magazine tells the story. "DJ Bob Lester called state senator -- and Palin political rival Lyda Green -- a 'cancer,' a 'bitch' and ridiculed her weight. (Green is a cancer survivor.)
"Meanwhile, Palin, 44, giggled along,'' US Weekly reports. "After being pressured by local media, Palin called Green to apologize. Now, in the wake of Palin's Labor Day bombshell that daughter Bristol, 17, is pregnant, Green is careful in choosing her words: 'I wish Bristol the best, and I say we let her live her life...'
"And what did she think when she heard Palin was John McCain's vice presidential candidate? "It's been very difficult to work with her," she says. "I wish there had been more vetting."
"That may be the understatement of the election,'' US Weekly concludes. "Within hours of McCain's surprise introduction of the little-known, charismatic mother of five as his running mate, the scandals began to emerge as quickly as flies at a Labor Day picnic.''
The rest of the story, as they say, resides in US.
