In the third of the national television network interviews that Republican Sarah Palin has faced, CBS News anchor Katie Couric asks the vice presidential nominee if Congress failing to act on the financial bailout that the Bush administration is proposing could risk another Great Depression.
"If this doesn't pass, do you think there's a risk of another Great Depression?'' the CBS anchor asks the candidate in an interview airing on the CBS Evening News.
"Unfortunately, that is the road that America may find itself on,'' Palin replied.
"Not necessarily this as it's been proposed has to pass or we're gonna find ourselves in another Great Depression,'' she said. "But there has got to be action taken, bipartisan effort-- Congress not pointing fingers at this point at...one another but.. finding the solution to this... taking action, and being serious about the reforms on Wall Street that are needed.''

But wait, how can we be facing a depression if the fundementals of our economy are strong like her running mate said just last week?

Talk about soft questioning! Katie Couric is NOT a journalist, she is an entertainment editor. Palin is able to face down terrorists shouldn't she be able to answer real questions???

As Zero Mostel said in the Producers "sharp as a tack".

That sure took a rocket scientist to answer, huh??More precticed rhetoric...I guess this is all we will get from her prior to the election..Fluff interviewers, no press and cheerleader campaign speeches with McSame and her husband close by..I have never seen or heard of a VP candidate that was placed in a bubble until the election is over..Now I just saw on TV McCain wants to postpone the Presidential Debate Friday...What next??His numbers are down so I guess he needs to play like he really cares about the economy....

I just wish they would stop quoting her verbatim. It makes her sound stupid. Can't they clean up her English a bit?
And remember, John McCain was a POW!

Whoa!! I thought it was unpatriotic to talk trash about the economy. Last week wasn't her campaign howling that the "angry left" was insulting American workers by saying the economy is in trouble? Give me a break.

How indepth and bold. Lets see...I don't see congress pointing their fingers at each other...I see them pointing to Bush and Wall street. But a nice answer...safe...doesn't really mean anything. Tyipical political doublespeak.

Is anybody going to be able to get her to answer a question from the Press Corp. This is getting old! McCain and Sarah need to stop hiding from the press.

I'll certainly be in a depression if she becomes VP.

The best way to head to a depression is to add another trillion to the deficit.
Apparently the new Republican mantra is spend, spend, spend. Really fascinating to see how easily the repubs spend the money.
Let me see, how does McCain/Palin like to spend money:
$500 billion for war. No problem. One Trillion for the bankers. No problem.
A couple hundred billion to have better medical care and insurance for the taxpayers- NO WAY

Bizarre behavior by the McCain campaign today, topped off by another unremarkable interview by Sarah Palin.
I thought McCain said a few days ago, on CBS's 60 Minutes, that he was for the bailout. Then, he said on Monday he was against it.
After a day of bad polling numbers, he decides to suspend his campaign until they can get a coherent message together. WTF?
Presidents must be able to handle multiple crises at once. There is no time for time-outs, pulling a fake hamstring, etc.

According to Joe Biden, FDR reassured the country via TV when the stock market crashed in 1929.
Remember the last time we had a depression, the dems tried eight years of failed policies to pull the country from the depression, but they failed. It took a woerld war to pull the country from that mess. And those economic policies of the 1930's are still haunting us to this day.
Do we really want a democrat in cahrge of a shaky economy again?

Terry,
Yeah, that's why he was elected 4 times.
Keep in mind he was trying to fix yet another Republican created nightmare scenario.

bill r,
You could be right; It looks like the Republics and Dems may actually agree that the Blofeld, Daddy Warbucks, Dr. No blackmail attempt is ridiculous on the face of it.
Hopefully McSputter won't ruin a bipartisan compromise when he goes running into the Senate chamber demanding change.

Seriously, I am an immigrant from a third world country. I always thought that my country of origin had politicians who were brain dead or had IQ's lower than 6th graders. The only thing they were always smart at was "corruption".
I am serious, this candidate for VP, Sarah Palin makes the leaders of "Third World" look like rocket scientists. It is embarrassing to have her as the VP for a great country like USA. It is pathetic! John McCain has seriously underestimated the intelligence of Americans or has he??
