Sarah Palin to do interview: ABCNews: The Swamp

The Swamp

by Mark Silva

"Here's a news flash,'' as Sarah Palin likes to say: The Republican nominee for vice president will sit with ABC News' Charlie Gibson for an interview, according to ABC.

When Palin will meet the press is not entirely clear, however.

Palin, who accepted Sen. John McCain's assignment to be his running mate 10 days ago, has yet to submit to questions from any reporters covering the election campaign, which, as ABC notes, has prompted some ribbing from the other side. Someone handed Joe Biden, Barack Obama's running mate, a cardboard cutout of McCain.

"You realize you you could've made history if you'd found a cardboard cut-out of Governor Palin," said David Wade, a campaign spokesman. "That's the closest she would've been to taking tough questions from the national media since she was selected.

"Then again, I guess the Republicans are continuing their recent history of keeping their vice-presidential picks in secure, undisclosed locations," he added, in reference to Vice President Dick Cheney's use of an "undisclosed location" after the Sept. 11 attacks.

The McCain campaign complains that press coverage of Palin has been intrusive and disrespectful of Palin's family, with McCain campaign manager saying on FOX News Sunday today that they will not toss Palin to the "piranhas'' of the press. Manager Rick Davis said they will not subject Palin to reporters' questions "until the point in time when she'll be treated with respect and deference."

While McCain, Democratic nominee Barack Obama and Obama running mate Biden appeared on the Sunday morning news shows this morning - mostly in interviews conducted on Saturday, Palin was campaigning today in New Mexico.

ABC News says it will be conducting an interview, but hasn't released details of when that might take place. But apparently, according to the McCain campaign's standards, it will take place "with respect and deference.''

Who cares, she turns out to be another Bush-McCain Republican gimmick. What a dastardly thing to do to the Governor of Alaska !! Give her a few more years of seasoning and she would be as capable as any politician in the land, to take over our Presidency. Just not at this moment in America's history. Senator McCain turns out to be less of a hero and more of a heel, with what he and his Rovian advisors pulled on Governor Palin !! Shame on the Bush-McCain Republicans, they have disgraced their Party, almost as badly, as the Bush-Cheney Regime has !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

That's real funny, making fun of 9/11. Hiding the vice president when the World Trade Center Towers had people leaping to their deaths, the Pentagon in flames and a fight to the death going on in another hijacked airplane. What would this 'comedian' have had the Vice President do? Announce that he was at home? Keerist the stupidity of leftists!

of course she'd talk with charlie.

when gibson asked mccain abt palin's foreign policy experience, mccain said alaska is next to russia. and charlie didn't laugh.

come on press, somethings are just not worth being polite about!

this is about my future and my children's future. i work and am a mother. but i want somebody smarter than me running this country, not somebody i can relate to.

Yeah, John McBush can depend on good ol' Charlie Gibson to ask the "tough questions" about things like flag pins and crazy preachers....uh, wait a minute, those are only questions for Democrats....nevermind, my bad.

You better believe that Caribou Barbie won't be asked tough questions, like say:

Palin's stament that Climate Change Isn't Man Made...

Palin's statement that she Wants To Outlaw Abortion Even In Cases Of Rape And Incest...

Palin's support for For The 'Bridge To Nowhere' Before She Was Against it...

Palin Blocking Ethics Investigations In Alaska...

Palin being Against Putting Polar Bears On Endangered Species List..

Is it possible that ABC made a deal that lets Palin get advance notice of the types of questions being asked in exchange for getting the first interview? This may seem odd but we don't see much of her on her own and maybe she can't handle it. She is a bit of a loose canon like McCain. The Rove team did cut McCain off and put an end to the so-called Straight Talk Express so this all makes me a bit suspicious. It is just possiblethat the Rove people worked this out just like the Saddleback interview. Whjo knows?

Being voted in as a Governor of a state is not a gimmick. Serving your country and serving your country for years is not a gimmick. Having no experience and calling yourself "the way" and "the agent for change"...IS a gimmick!

You committed to one interview, yet date to be determined. "Good for you Palin", good job. Just saying that you are going to be interviewed bought you some more time to delay tough questions from real media. You do realize that if you were to win you would have to confront real world leaders and real problems that you actually do not have experience in.

If you are up to the job, stop making excuses and hiding behind the ropes. get in the ring!

Keep AVOIDING THIS STORY, Swamp!!!

The latest USA Today Poll has McCain-Palin up 50-46% over Obama Biden. And the latest Gallup Poll has McCain-Palin up 48%-45%.

We Daily Kossacks don't want this to come out. So keep concentrating on irrelevant non-stories like the one above.

"With respect and deference"??..What does that mean??Nothing but fluff questions??..Or maybe they can discuss her tight abs like they mentioned on her TV Video just now on Fox. Who cares about this??Plus it looks like her husband does everything for the kids..This video was shot last April when there were just 4 kids...Now there are 5 and one is challenged with special needs. I hope the interview will consist of our nation and it's problems and how are we going to get our Soldiers Home!!...We can watch daily soaps for all this other stuff if so inclined...So far all I have seen she can do is read scripted speeches and make love to the camera..If McCain is elected women will lose their right to an abortion..This is wrong..A woman should have the right of choice..We do not need religion crammed down our throats including her views..Very SCARY CHOICE..

I have only one question, who will edit these interviews before they arer shown to the american electorate

And respect and deference means a lot of schmoozing. Basically a free advertisement for Palin. As opposed to a press conference like every other VP candidate has had, where they actually have to take real questions that haven't been written in advance by the campaign. You get Charlie Gibson, an easy interviewer who cut his teeth on breakfast TV rather than news, and the rest slots right into place for Palin/McCain, . er, McCain/Palin.

Keeping a potential Leader of the Free World hidden away, immune from scrutiny by the American people, should be a federal crime.

With the media establishment solidly in the black power marxist's pocket and showing no indication they will bother to hide their agenda. I'm rather suprised she is even willing to acknowledge the leftist propaganda machine.

Omigod! Stop the presses! A vice presidential candidate has agreed to do ... an interview with the national media. This is amazing stuff. Sarah Palin has actually consented do do an interview with ABC News! She is so gosh darn BRAVE!

The press is treating her like a new toy, high on a shelf, that they can't reach. Those poor whiners.

GRILL HER HERE AND DRILL HER NOW! GRILL AND DRILL, PUT HER UNDER THE MAGNIFYING GLASS!! The citizen's sure have the right for a public vetting, McCain and the neo-cons be DAMNED!! whiteagle38

This female Rocky Mtn. Ski Instructor anxiously await Palin's appearance on Meet The Press. Until that time, let' s hold our assumptions about her ability to serve. There are far too many speculations by those who won't vote Republican. Her age and malleability are only an advantage in my humble oppinion...So save our predjudices "until the point in time when she'll be treated with respect and deference." or what ever Rick Davis fantasizes that the press will do.

I was shocked to discover that according to the Sex Offender registry for Wasilla, Alaska there are 60 registered sex offenders for that little town of 7025.

Now to give you some comparison:
Rural Illinois has 156 per 100,000 people
Urban Illinois has 139 per 100,000 people
Cook County has 87 per 100,000 people

My question: What did Sarah Palin do to address this critical social issue in her community when she was Mayor?

I know she tried to censor the librarian, but what did she do to address this major issue in her town?

The tough question I would be asking of Ms. Palin is:

Senator Palin, in all respect and deference I would like to ask, when Senator McCain asked you to be his running mate as the Republican nominee for vice-president, how close to a first thought was the notion that the Republican presidential nominee, being 72 years of age and not necessarily in the best of health, is going to die in office and that you would then get to be in charge of the executive branch, or in other words, if those words came at you too quickly, that you would get to be the President of the United Sates? Or did you not think of that possibility until after the phone call had finished and you were sitting back in your chair pondering what had just happened?

Keeping Obama hidden away and afraid to debate should be a public shame! Why didn't Obama agree to 10 town hall debates? What does he have to hide?

Mark, why don't you ask your readers to list their own suggested questions? I bet we could come up with better ones than Charlie Gibson.

Respect yes, deference no. DEFERENCE?!?! To a nominee?!?!

Send Rick Davis and dictionary and flag that word for him. I sure HOPE he doesn't know it means.

Does anyone remember Spiro Agnew? Sarah is the new Spiro-in-a-skirt.

If Sarah is actually elected, she will most likely go down in a torrent of shame. She has abused her power in Alaska, and now the Alaska state legislature looks like it's trying to cover for her...ONLY because she is now on the national stage.

But if she's elected to a national office, she's fair game for intense scrutiny and will most likely be exposed for what she really is: a ruthless, unethical, hypocritical liar who places her own ambitions ahead of her family and her country. Her Alaskan shenanigans will come back to haunt her.... mark my words.

Ask her about her flip-flops on earmarks, please. Then ask why the President and VP are so concerned about earmarks??!! Those are legislative concerns and aren't there more pressing issues confronting the world and the next President??!!

According to FOX NEWS eliminating every EARMARK in Congress still leaves us 8.5 trillion in debt -- and we start w/ 9 trillion in debt. So, who cares?

Ask why on earth she thinks she's qualified to be president and what about attending 5 colleges in 6 years before graduating from Univ of Idaho???

This is not an elitist question -- this is just a real one b/c I know I would second-guess any doctor performing life-saving surgery on me or my family if he/she attended 5 medical schools before graduating from one! Yikes! And what we need after these last 8 terrible years is life-saving work on our economy, our health care, our education, social security, national security and foreign policy -- and I want the best and brightest running this country next time around, not the least and the lamest...

No way, no how, no McPalin!

Hey Bozo.

Big Freaking Deal!!!

Obama and Biden were up by 8 points last week after their convention bounce. If two points is all McBush and Caribou Barbie can get from their convention bounce then you Wingnuts in trouble, slick!

Obama said, they must think you're stupid. And he's obviously right. I haven't seen a gimmick as blatant as Palin since the end of the Sixth Sense.

What is happening to us?

I have been a staunch Republican for over 40 years and now I am totally disgusted with my own party. What is this party doing? How is it that we have gotten to the point of desperation? How did our integrity, decency and fair play become so distorted that we would resort to such decentful behavior, to get our candidate elected?

In the past I was one to just accept a statement from my party as being the 'truth', because I felt our party was one of integrity, but that was before the internet. But in this election, I researched the negatives being thrown out and discovered that the party has been intentionally deceiving the voters of our GOP party, as well as those who have yet to decide.

Just recently we (GOP) released a statement attacking the democrats for going after governor Palin and her family. Then, when I researched it to find out who among the democrats made the statement, I find that it was actually one of our people who released the statement. WHY? Why do we have to use such tactics?

And on this vetting issue, even though our candidate couldn't get Joe on the ticket with him, why did we grab a woman at the last minute? Have you forgotten that there are those of us out here John that will back you, even if you picked Joe?

When John first shared his POW story with us I felt a kindship with him, as I am a disabled veteran of that war. But now, after hearing the story so many times, I begin to realize that this is not the right thing to do, especially to gain support based on 'heroism'. I couldn't help but think of the 52,000 silent heros. Those of us who survived, which John was fortunate to do, shouldn't use our 'hero' status for personal gain. We must always remember to researve that privilege for the true unsung heros who are not with us today. Please John, stop.

You now leave me stranded at sea, aboard a ship to nowhere. What has become of my right to vote? I may as well sell my vote on EBay, since I will probably get more for it there, than I will out of this reckless election.

Good for ABC and good for the McCain campaign, but I stopped watching puppet shows a long time ago. Steve Shmidt and Rick Davis are underestimating my intelligence!

KKyra - no one is avoiding the expected "convention bounce" that has resulted in McCain & Obama being in a statistical tie in polls taken just after the Republican convention. You may be too ignorant of politics to know that 1) this result is no surprise & happens for EVERY candidate in EVERY presidentail election, & 2) the result does NOT mean McCain/Palin have pulled ahead, but merely manged to eek out a statistical tie rather than be 5-10 points down. Perhaps you should check out one of the myriad of sites on the web that explain modern polling methods, margins of error, etc, before showing your ignorance of modern polling techniques (you'd find how little respect USA Today has, as either a newspaper or a polling source) Granted, statistics can be a bit tough for those who have problems understanding things like the difference between real science & "creation science", the FACT of global warming, etc. - & since you're apparently a Republican & a Bush supporter, your ignorance is understandable. A visit to www.fivethirtyeight.com might help you understand polls a bit better.

A crime? Then why isn't David Axelrod in jail for keeping Obama from the media? Could it be that he says stuff like "my Muslim faith" when he does get interviewed? Maybe that's why David keeps him under wraps.
A victory for civility: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/08/business/media/08msnbc.html?_r=3&hp=&oref=slogin&pagewanted=print&oref=slogin&oref=slogin

she should be on the only fair and balanced news...fox news. we conservatives need to boycot liberal media like abc, cbs, nbc, cnn, the new yourk times etc. go fox

I hope she doesn't give the major news networks a chance to ask their slutty questions. They live with an ugly world view and have long ago showed their bias against conservatives.

With so many Americans wanting to know what she's like and what she can do as VP, declining interviews with the media is not a good thing. It just shows her lack of maturity and inability to think on her feet. It's the Quayle and Elizabeth Dole syndrome......If you can't handle the media, how the hell can you deal with the complexities of the White House???

Mr. Out of Touch, "2 Professors = 200K" Charlie Gibson...oh yeah, he'll surely hit those really important questions...Don't Blow it Charlie! this is serious journalism, not that Disney-Mickey Mouse entertainment you try to pull off ...what a Joke!

I believe hiding Gov. Palin is a plot and ploy to keep her away from the media to gie her more time to prepare for the challenge ahead or their fears of her missing the mark and changing the America publics mind against her. After doing research online I have found her views, belief and ideas and misgivings to be contradicting to what she is saying on the campaign trail. I should not have to just look online or watch tv to find out whether or not I want to vote for her or if she represent my views and beliefs and if she can handle the job in question. While watching,reading and listen to Republican and Democrates. I visited Obama's and Hilary Clinton website to view his/her solutions to problems that affect the world and on topics I am passionate about and found their websites to be informative on what direction they planned to take our nation. I did the same for Mccain and I am not certain. I further search the web for additional information to back up or discredit Palin-Mccain claims and the jury is still out. Because the the VP picks were resently picked I am still reseaching Biden and Palin. I listened to Palins speech today and went online to adn.com (anchorage daliy newsin Alaska) and to Huffingtonpost.com to view info on her to see if she would sway my vote and I was amazed at what's out there. I don't mean her personal life and meaningless reporting. I mean her decision on issues that are relating to her Governing and Mayoral practices. You can find transcripts, video coverage and news articles dating back as far as two years ago and I find it not representing what the Republican party is try to sell me on or are claiming. There is alot of contreversial information relating to her. I am not attempting to sway the voters in anyway, I am just asking that you do the research and choose your candidate based on matters that are important to you and who would represent those interest. I am still trying to decide. Good Luck

The pitbull with lipstick is afraid of the big bad press!

The free press was our only way of vetting this woman. The "free" press has been bought and is now owned by the right-wing. This woman may be the first politician to enter the White House with no experience, without having to answer a single pertinent question from the public.

Our days as a "free" nation are numbered if we let these Republicons win this election.

Wake up, America! Wake up!

The last thing we need is another VP with a happy trigger-finger.

I am so over Palin, let's get to the substance-less McCain.

ZZZZZZ!

Oh, wait, let's not.

10 Ways in Which Sarah Palin Is *Exactly* Like George W. Bush

1) Like Bush, she is completely against a woman's right to choose (in fact, she exceeds Bush in that she is against a woman's right to choose even in cases of rape or incest;

2) Like Bush, she opposes stem cell research to prevent fatal diseases in men, women and children;

3) Like Bush, supports the teaching of Creationism alongside Evolution in public schools;

4) Like Bush, does not believe that Global Warming is man made;

5) Like Bush, has supported abstinence-only sex education methods that have proven ineffective;

6) Like Bush, has virtually no foreign policy experience prior to running for national office--(in Palin's case, despite a 72-year old, chronically ill running mate)

7) Like Bush, has engaged in conduct that has resulted in current government investigation of her actions;

8) Like Bush, has made statements which indicate lack of knowledge of basic elements of the office they are running for (Palin, July 2008: "What exactly does the Vice President do everyday?");

9) Like Bush, has been sequestered to prevent her being asked questions that she has not yet been prepared to answer;

10) Like Bush, talks like a reformer--yet in her actions (i.e., relying on lobbying, supporting the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it) acts in the most typical, all-too-familiar fashion.

Mudflats reports the interview will take place in the middle of this week sometime and taped in Alaska??? ...I guess they want to show us just how much the people of Alaska love her!!!! GAG!... Give me a $1200 check like they're all getting, and I'll find something to like about her, too! I know - her Kawasaki glasses.

I have only one question, who will edit these interviews before they arer shown to the american electorate

Posted by: Harriet 8:54 PM

ASK your guy, he'll have an answer to that one.

*******************************

The point is to get answers, but what some want is blood, there is a difference. I am not interested in RATINGS, that's why I STRONGLY support the Palin camps rights to choose when they want to be interviewed and by who. Their reasoning is justified. I don't mind MEDIA going for blood but AFTER they are interviewing them and they give them the runaround answering something (both sides). I have NOOOOOO love for media, only answers to questions (both sides).

I want answers to questions about Obama's BLT beliefs, how can you go to a church 20 years and not be steeped in it's religion. He says he doesn't share the views that WE heard by Rev Wright, but I find it hard to believe that as a whole he doesn't support Black Liberation Theology that Rev W. preaches.... it's sooooo potent that rationally thinking people would find another church IF they found it vile, Oprah did. So, was it his bad judgement that kept him there so long, because Oprah sure considered her carreer when SHE left....or was he caught up in the cult like thinking that appears in the books (repeats over and over about white opression, w. America, and w. Christianity and changing your ENTIRE thinking so you can remove all white thinking)? How vulnerable is he to people swaying his judgement?

REV WRIGHT brought him to Christianity he says (no other person or reason was given).

READ the Cone books that their church beliefs were mirrored from (according to the BLT author Cone and Rev Wright himself). I think the media is doing AMERICANS a BIG DISERVICE by not asking real questions about this. I'm not looking for someone to attack someones rights to their own religious beliefs, but surely we have rights to be informed so as not to possibly put someone into the highest office in the land without allowing EVERYONE a chance to know about their feelings towards the MAJORITY of AMericans.

Obama says it's a generational thing with Rev Wright's comments we heard.... well, that may answer questions for why Rev Wright's rants are from SOME of things from the past, but if you read the Cone book you know that it repeats the same thing thru the entire book>the religion teaches that you take that same thinking about WHTES and you CONSTANTLY re-apply it to what is the PRESENT DAY black oppressions (same oppressors). That is ONE of the ways he says it's different from the traditonal bible beliefs that have stories of the past you read inside the bible . In this BLT religion, they teach that you look at all oppressed blacks (that would be ALL OF BLACKS that follow white ways and thinking, which all American thinking outside of this religion is) of the PRESENT TIMES that you're in, and you view them as needing to be LIBERATED.

That's why Jesus is BLACK, he is for the oppressed and he cannot love Whites because they are the oppressors. If God doesn't support blacks and be against their enemies (whites) then he is not a true God and must be destroyed. Giving your full efforst to help the oppressed is what makes you a GOOD BLT Christian.

The Black Liberation Theology church would NOT exist without racism. THEY ARE ONE IN THE SAME. They don't acknowledge the Civil Rights Movement, or any of the successes in this country with racism issues. There will never be satisfaction with this group, and it will ALWAYS BE DIVISIVE to our COUNTRY.

Obama wants to take from the rich and spread it to the poor. He wants to greatly EXPAND WELFARE, If you look at his Earmarks that were finally released you see lots of money going to his causes. You hear him talking of people clinging to their religion and guns (read about their views on guns in and government and weapons in the Cone books>White's way of keeping the oppressed in line), he talks of not wanting to go after gang members with harder punishments out of sympathy to their plight (read their views on laws whites make to keep blacks down), look at how he degraded us abroad, look at the questions being posed about his Patriotism. Look at his ideas he speaks of in his book about UNIVERSAL VOLUNTEERISM, brown shirt type armies.....his UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE. There are so many question that make you want to know more about his RELIGION and how he is seeming to tie it in to his thinking.

This probably won't make it on a post. I believe in God (never been active in a church) but have no problem with other religions and never have. My problem is with the deception about this one (by MEDIA and Obama) and most importantly that we all have a right to believe as we choose, but if someone is running for President something like a church that couldn't exist without racism towards the majority of the people in it, well it seems to me it's time for some ANSWERS MEDIA????

The "free" press has been bought and is now owned by the right-wing. This woman may be the first politician to enter the White House with no experience, without having to answer a single pertinent question from the public.

Yeah Tom, you hit the nail on the head.

I am glad all of that gobble-de-gook got printed. It is the perfect example of the Bush-McCain Republicans at their inept best !! Keep those distortions, falsehoods and innuendoes flying, we need some amusement, now that Senator McCain, effectively, took himself and the Bush-McCain Republicans out of the Presidential race, with is deplorable choice for his Vice-Presidential. He has done America, a disservice and that is apparently alright with some Americans, who do not care, if we have proper leadership, or not !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

The first interview with Sarah Palin is scheduled for Thursday night in Alaska and will be broadcast to millions via ABC News. Now the timing the Republican party chose for this event begs this question...

Why would the McCain Campaign schedule the most important interview of Ms. Palin's career on the day her first born was being deployed?

My answer is that the McCain Campaign believes in winning at all costs regardless of the enormous toll this must be taking on Ms. Palin. Where is the concern about her privacy on probably the most heart wrenching day of her life? I can only assume they hope to put another stake in the heart of the "liberal media" in the event her questions are too tough. Their words will be, "How could ABC treat her so badly on this difficult day. It's outrageous and the country should be appalled".

JUST WAIT AND SEE!!!!!!!!!!

The interview was a trainwreck…she showed her ignorance and her inability to think intelligently under pressure.

Sarah Palin is wrong for this country.

She does not care about YOU or the U.S.

She will follow Israel into Iran, go to war with Russia and will sacrifice our troops, spend our remaining dollars and throw away what little respect we have left in this world.
