So, who are the elite? And where are they?

"Oh, I guess just people who think that they're better than anyone else.'' says Sarah Palin, the Republican vice presidential nominee. "John McCain and I are so committed to serving every American. Hard-working, middle-class Americans who are so desiring of this economy getting put back on the right track....

"So anyone who thinks that they are-- I guess-- better than anyone else, that's-- that's my definition of elitism,'' Palin tells Brian Williams of the NBC Nightly News, in the next installment of the McCain-Palin interview airing this evening.

"So it's not education? It's not income-based?'' the anchor asks.

"Anyone who thinks that they're better than someone else.''

"It's not geography?''

"'Course not,'' the Alaska governor says.

The presidential nominee begs to disagree. He says he knows where the elite hang out.

"I know where a lot of 'em live,'' McCain notes, with a laugh. "In our nation's capital and New York City. I've seen it. I've lived there. I know the town. know what a lot of these elitists are. The ones that she never went to a cocktail party with in Georgetown.

"I'll be very frank with you,'' McCain says, calling the elite those "who think that they can dictate what they believe to America rather than let Americans decide for themselves.''

I think "elite" is thinking that you deserve $ 150,000.00 in clothes.

What total garbage and the republicans should be ashamed of this. Keep dividing the country McBush/Failin, it is the only chance you have. To think that I admired this man in 2000. What a joke he has become.

I think we need to educate her in what the Vice President job description is before we start asking her anything else.

"McCain says, calling the elite those "who think that they can dictate what they believe to America rather than let Americans decide for themselves.''

Um -- isn't that exactly what they are doing? Dictating to America that they believe their way is the correct way???

so Mccain thinks the 2 places that were the victims of 9/11 and lost Great American's are elitist.

nice McCain

Elitist is telling forclosed homeowners that they are on their own for daring to dream while actually owning 7 homes yourself.

Is it perhaps that the elite own 7 or 8 houses? Glass houses at that, John. And you're the one casting stones?

"I guess just people who think that they're better than anyone else."

By her own definition, then, Palin's one of the elite. Heh.

Now, now, now. Palin says (or, more specifically, she "guesses") that elitists think they're better than everyone else. That's different from Republicans, who, according to themselves, REALLY ARE better than anyone else.

Yes, Republican policies that made the wealthy, filthy rich and left middle-class wages stagnant while health care cost soared, are the answer. The party that eliminated pensions, killed unions, and ravaged your 401's are your friends. What garbage!

Go Palin go. If the shoe fits...
Can't twist truth. Elite is elite by any other name.
And libs do love shovin it down our throats. For, they are so what? Wrong. And elite like.

So, let me make sure I have it correct...

NOT elitist = 12 homes, 150 thousand dollars on clothing, and real americans
elitist = a small, crappy nyc apartment that i cant afford, 150 thousand dollars in student loans, and fake american becaus i live in the melting pot of america

is that correct?

I'll agree with McCain since he's so willing to throw himself under the bus. Like Obama he's spent time in our nation's capitol-- so naturally he's an elitist, but that NY thing--- that's my favorite. See dogging on NY cost Rudy some election traction-- it shot him in the foot. If I had heard McCain rag on NY as "home of the elitists" before--I might see him loosing some election points. However, now that I know what King Bloomberg and the Council Court have done in NY--in terms of terms limits---how it was passed-- I TOTALLY AGREED WITH MCCAIN. A bunch of elitist. McCain. Obama. NY. Cocktails anyone?

I'm all for the professional wardrobes, and grooming, and all that. But... jeez. A hundred and fifty grand --c'mon, are you freaking kidding me?!?! And from campaign donations of people like "Joe the Plumber", no less. And after you've just spent two months painting yourself as a salt of the earth small-town hero, a "real" American who doesn't go in for all that stuff?

You know, Palin really is beginning to come off as a con artist -- a confidence (wo)man. Pure Harold Hill stuff. She says some pretty words, bluffs her way through all the situations that require active knowledge, the crowd cheers, and all the while fleeces everyone around her for travel, and fame, and clothes, etc., etc.

Palin's ridiculous levels of professed self-confidence, during all of this, just adds to the overall vibe that she's playing everyone for rubes, and is enjoying every minute of it. It's not a job or even an election to her, it's a game show, and she won the Big Prize.

What an exceptionally dislikable person Palin seems to be. From the first moment she stepped onto the national stage, there hasn't been a single retold aspect of her personal history that would inspire confidence, or respect, or anything but revulsion. She seems the perfect example of a shallow, petty, self-centered person rising in power simply because being shallow, petty and self-centered are the only tools necessary to do so. I half expect her to make off with McCain's wallet at some point, and be found two weeks later in Atlantic City.

lulu, If the shoe fits...have the McCain campaign buy it for you.

I wouldn't dream of trying to convince YOU to vote for the best candidate in the race. But I'm not ashamed to be voting for the most intelligent, best educated, and best prepared candidate who has the best campaign organization. Unlike you, I WANT the elite candidate to win. I think America deserves the best. That's why I'm voting for Obama.

As a christian, I pray for Sarah. She's worst than her running mate as she referred McCain. What's the reason for her to her baby at all these events? By now, all america knows that her baby suffers from Down Syndrome. What is she looking for? This girl would make a great coctail waitress. She'll have a sip with you, Bless her heart my mom would say.

Methinks the new 'elitism' as practiced by the evangelical christo-fascists consists of proclaiming themselves "the new chosen ones", (chosen by themselves of course) so they will be welcomed into heaven first. All others are scum, and deserve to linger in the fires of hell.

Someone needs to ask Palin whom she thinks is going to Hell??
That's the ultimate arrogant elitism.

I would kind of like to have an elitist President. We have been getting along with a "c" student and things are falling apart. It shouldn't have taken five years to make some changes in Iraq. An elitist might have never taken us to Iraq and we would have four thousand less deaths and a trillion dollars less debt. What we need now is a really smart elitist with an elitist cabinet.

The amount of hatred from Obama supporters really is appalling. Is this what "change and hope" is really all about?

Bemused-- Hatred, lets talk about hatred. Who's the one that's saying half of the U.S. is "un-American"?
Who's throwing around, "associates with terrorists", to incite the ignorant masses? The Republican Party embraced the politics of Rove, and now, that's all they've got.
