Sen. John McCain continued his try and sow seeds of doubt about Sen. Barack Obama in voters' minds. He was doing so much sowing in Albuquerque, New Mexico he was a veritable Johnny Appleseed of questions about Obama, indignantly asking not only where his rival came from but where he would lead the country.
It was pretty hard-hitting and if it was any indication of what we can expect tomorrow at the second presidential debate, then that event has the potential to be pretty heated.
Here's some of what McCain said:
SEN. MCCAIN: My friends, I set out on my own campaign for president many months ago. I promised at the beginning to be straight with the American people, knowing that even those who don't agree with me on everything would expect at least that much. I didn't just show up out of nowhere. (Cheers.) After all, America knows me. You know my strengths and my faults. You know my story and my convictions....
There are essential things we don't know about Senator Obama or the record that he brings to this campaign. (Cheers, applause.)
You know, we've -- we've all heard what he's said, but it's less clear what he's done or what he will do. (Cheers, applause.) What Senator Obama says today and what he's done in the past are often two different things. (Shouts from the audience.) He's often changed his positions in this campaign, and the best way to determine where he would really take this country is to examine where he has tried to take it in the past. (Shouts from the audience.)
My opponent has invited serious questioning by announcing a few weeks ago that he would, quote, "Take off the gloves." Since then, whenever I've questioned his policies or his record, he's called me a liar. Rather -- (booing) -- rather than answer his critics, Senator Obama will try to distract you from noticing that he never answers the serious and legitimate questions he's been -- (cheers, applause) -- but let -- let me reply in the plainest terms that I know. I don't need lessons about telling the truth to American people. (Cheers.) And were I ever to need any improvement in that regard, I probably wouldn't seek advice from a Chicago politician. (Cheers, applause.)
You know, my opponent's touchiness every time he's questioned about his record should make us only more concerned. For a guy who's already authored two memoirs, he's not exactly an open book. (Laughter, cheers, applause.) You know, it's -- it's as if somehow the usual rules don't apply, and where other candidates have to explain themselves and their records, Senator Obama seems to think he's above all that. Whatever the question, whatever the issue, there's always a back story with Senator Obama. All people want to know is: What has this man ever actually accomplished in government? (Cheers, applause, shouts.)
AUDIENCE MEMBER: Zero!
SEN. MCCAIN: What -- what does he plan for America?
AUDIENCE MEMBER: Zero!
SEN. MCCAIN: In short: Who is the -- who is the real Barack Obama?
You might think that a candidate whose performance has been described as erratic and unpredictable (i.e. the off and on campaign gambit and the Sarah Palin gambit) might be tread lightly when trying to cast his opponent as the risky one, but you would be wrong.
If anyone has seemed the more predictable of the candidates, Obama has. That has been one of the true paradoxes of the campaign. The younger less known candidate is the one who hasn't pulled any surprises while McCain has caused a lot of people to wonder if they really know him, to ask effectively "Who is the real John McCain?"
Anyway, that kind of observation messes up the narrative the McCain campaign is trying to lay down in this final 30-day stretch before the election.
So even though we observers of the McCain campaign are never sure where the McCain campaign is going to take us in any given week, expect to hear much more from McCain that it's Obama who is real variable in this race.

And who is the real John McCain? Is he the maverick or the one who voted with G.W. Bush 90% of the time. Let the record speak for itself. 90% may not seem like that much but I'll bet you wish you had 90% of your portfolio back.

The once-honorable warrior who served his country?
Or the do-anything say-anything purveyor of sleaze?

Frank, why did you leave out that an audience member shouted "Terrorist" when McCain asked "Who is the real Barack Obama"? and that the audience laughed and that McCain did nothing? You certainly understand that this is where McCain has taken this and he knows he has and yet will continue to plead ignorance of any connection between his and Palin's words and reactions like this. You did a disservice to your readers here. Why?

McCain is now in the "don't vote for him" part of the campaign; the "vote for me" tactics failed miserably.

Why do some Republicans trash talk entire cities? "San Francisco liberals." "Chicago politicians."
Is that what is said when you can't come up with anything of substance?
With all the problems we have, John McCain wants to talk guilt by association. What's wrong with this guy who lives in a glass house?

Check out the state's finances, pensions, crime, schools.
Obama worked with Ayres on improvement. An Annenberg Grant gave them millions to dole out. Guess what? No school improvement after the schools received these millions.
If Obama has failed Illinois, how can he help the US during this crisis?

Thank you, Senator McCain. That's a question many people have been asking. And since the media is so in the tank, have yet to get satisfactory answers. If the media had done its job and gone after Obama with half the zeal that they have gone after Palin, then McCain might not be able to use this against Obama. I notice none of the kool-aid kids posting here actually have an answer to the question - "Who is the real Obama?" This PUMA isn't going to risk our country on an untested, unvetted neophyte. That's why I'm Another Democrat for McCain/Palin.

Okay, McCain. I want to know this:
WHO is Sarah Palin?
You have a lot of nerve doing this to Obama when your running mate is even MORE of an unknown factor in this race.
Such double standards, John. Your whole campaign is nothing but one double standard after another.
Hypocrisy. Lies. Secrecy. Scare tactics.
It all adds up to a BIG loss in November for your so-called Straight Talk Express.
Posted by: mavisdarling | October 6, 2008 7:36 PM
McCain's just not screaming loudly enough yet. And he's off message saying that Obama "pals around with terrorists." Why not jump up and down and scream that Obama IS a terrorist?
Then get the Republican Noise Machine to say "Hmm, is it possible? Is Obama part of bin Laden's planning team? Has he secretly promised bin Laden a Cabinet-level appointment and free explosives? We can't really be sure, one way or the other. But there are doubts."
That should work.
Yeah.
Just don't talk about the economy.
And don't emphasize the 95% voting with George Bush and you'll be okay, John.
Posted by: zorg | October 6, 2008 7:37 PM
I'm voting against McCain as much as I'm voting for Obama. He has a history of using his office to help his big money supporters going back to Keating in the 80s. Recently he helped get a handful of them a sweet deal land swap. Then there's the native peole in Arizona he had kicked off of their reservation to give the mineral rights to a big coal company supporter.
His influence selling is bad enough, but it is his seething anger which makes him hostile at the drop of a hat that is the scariest. McCain has a history of snubbing reporters, other politicians and even world leaders when he feels like it. We just can't have this PTSD crazed ol loon with his finger on the nuke button. It would be world class suicide.

Who is the real Sarah Palin?
Sarah Palin and 'first dudes' political alliance with a terrorist who was murdered in 1993 during “a plastic explosives sale gone bad.”
“The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government… And I won’t be buried under their damn flag,” - Joe Vogler in 1991, Founder of the Alaska Independence Party.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwvPNXYrIyI
Sarah congratulates the secession party only 6 months ago on their political gains.
Her husband, Todd, was a member the Alaskan Independence Party working for Alaska to secede from the United States. The director of Division of Elections in Alaska reported that Todd Palin registered in October 1995 to the Alaska Independence Party, a radical group that advocates for Alaskan secession from the United States, and remained a member until 2002, when he registered as undeclared while his wife ran for office.

Ogama is a run-of-the-mill corrupt Chicago Machine hack with a thin record.
.
He has had a 17-plus year personal financial quid pro quo relationship with the political "fixer" Tony Rezko. He has endorsed the worst, most corrupt and incompetent politicians in Cook County -- Todd Stroger, Alexi Giannouias and Richard Daley, and has turned a blind eye to their public thievery
.
Obama claims to not accept money from federally registered lobbyists... but he accepts money from these same lobbyists' business associates and spouses... and he accepts money from lobbyists who happen to not be registered. He accepts bundled checks. He uses lobbyists and other government relations professionals as advisers. He has been bought and paid for by the big corporations.
.
His sole claim to fame is his tepid speech against the war in 2002 which he perpetually waves as evidence of his sound judgement... and yet he admitted that he's not certain how he would have voted were he in the US Senate then... and he has voted for every war funding bill since then.
.
There's no creativity about Obama. He proposes no new, innovative policy solutions. At his best he's a boiler plate mainstream Democrat... that is when he's not sprinting away from Progressive issues.
.
He has no apparent fixed principals. He will say anything, betray anybody, renounce any previously stated idea if it suits his purpose.
.
Where's the change? Where's the hope?

Scary to think that Sarah could be the person to lead us from this Depression:
Todd Palin is Sarah’s husband. The director of Division of Elections in Alaska reported that Todd Palin registered in October 1995 to join the Alaska Independence Party, a radical group that advocates for Alaskan secession from the United States. He remained a member of the Party for seven years until 2002. You tube has video in which Sarah addressed the secession party convention and told them to keep up the good work!
Currently, Sarah is being investigated for trooper gate as well circumventing State system in hiding her government dealings in private e-mails as well as private phone lines. It is for this reason that she spent more days at her house rather than the Governor’s Mansion. Although paid by the tax payers $ 17,000 as her per diem allowance never reported the amount to the IRS. Sarah is very good at repeating talking lines or reading scripts prepared for her. Her strength is that she is very dramatic in making presentations. However, beneath the surface she is empty. She has never had ability to think independently or answer any question intelligently. This is the reason why Todd spends most of his week-off time in Sarah’s office.
Let’s assume that McCain gets elected and God forbids that he dies during his first or second year in office. Who will we have to look up to lead us from this economic depression? It is scary to think that could the Maverick Sarah Barracuda, under the guidance of the former radical party member Todd Palin. Through thick and thin I patiently supported Senator McCain in both his 2000 and 2008 presidential campaigns. However, at the end of the final session of interviews of Sarah by Katie Couric, it was very obvious that the McCain/Palin ticket was no longer suitable for me. In my lifetime, she is the worst VP candidate ever to be nominated by a major party. The needs of this nation where not fully taken into account when Sarah was picked. She is too illiterate to occupy any national leadership position in this mighty nation. May God Bless America.

Barack Obama is a real good speaker, what else do people REALLY KNOW about him, well, other than Opera calling him "the chosen one". Obama was a jr. senator for 2 1/2 yrs before campaigning the last 1 1/2, how did he perform as a Jr. Sen? ..... what about those questionable associations? ..... there are many more questions to ask, yet, it seems like entirely too many people really don't wanna know what the real truth is (one way or the other) about Obama in order to make an INFORMED decision. IMO Allot of "blind faith" for "the chosen one".

wow, mccain is a moron. if he want's to bring up the past, lets talk about what HE'S done. He talks about religious rights being intolerent and here he has this b**** sarah palin as his running mate ! Another thing is that did ANYONE know that he voted against Martin Luther King day; He voted against it being a state holiday in 1987 and a federal holiday in 1989, and he voted in 1994 to cut funding for the commission that promoted MLK holiday.
so let's not bring up the past you old geezer because there's a lot more dirt on you !!

Article in the Canada Free Press: In Artful Dodger style, Barack Obama, plays down his mentorship with Communist author Saul Alinsky. But Alinsky’s son, L. David Alinsky, credits Obama for “learning his lesson well” from the Communist guru.
Alinsky advises his followers that the poor have no power and that the real target is the middle class: "Organization for action will now and in the decade ahead center upon America's white middle class. That is where the power is. ... Our rebels have contemptuously rejected the values and the way of life of the middle class. They have stigmatized it as materialistic, decadent, bourgeois, degenerate, imperialistic, war-mongering, brutalized and corrupt. They are right; but we must begin from where we are if we are to build power for change , and the power and the people are in the middle class majority."
Sound familiar: Saul Alinskys book “Rules for Radicals” is Obamas political playbook and he is playing the Middle Class for fools. Get a clue, the reason McCain asks the question, ”Who is the real Obama?”, is because he is hoping that Americans will be intelligent enough to research his past and find out the type of radical, Marxist people that Obama has aligned himself with since the age of ten, instead of being fooled by this wolf in sheeps clothing. Unless you would like to live in Russia, I would suggest researching his background before voting for the man. Is this really the type of person you want with their finger on the button? Obamas associations to research: Frank Marshall Davis (Communist), Saul Alinsky (used “Rules for Radicals” principals to train people as a Community Organizer), ACORN (defended, trained workers, donated funds, they endorse his Champaign) investigated for voter registration fraud, pressured banks to loan to unqualified borrowers cause of recent financial disaster, Ayers (domestic terrorist), Rev. Wright (member of church for 23 years, hates America, hates Whites) and the list goes on. On the lighter side if he gets elected his first act to tear down capitalism will be to raise taxes, which will send us into a depression.

Thats easy he is the same Obama who believes that AYERS and Terrorists are people who over time will change. Ayers changed from BOMBER to a teacher of young radicals how to destroy the system from with in. I guess Obama believes that if you talk with them they will lay down their bombs and pick up plow shares.

Who is the real Barack Obama? He's the courageous (former) Illinois state senator who stood on a crowded plaza in downtown Chicago to decry Bush's plans for a preemptive war against Iraq. I was there. He was right. McCain was wrong.
Who is the real Barack Obama? He's an environmentalist. Here's how he's described in an article entitled "The Barack Obama We Know" in "Lake & Prairie," a publication of the Ill. chapter of the Sierra Club:
"There are many reasons why Americans are energized about Barack Obama’s historic campaign for the White House, but most are still unaware of his record in Illinois on the environment. Sierra Club leaders who have worked with Obama during his time in the Illinois Senate, and as our U.S. Senator, know that he will make
the right choices for our country, because we have seen him make those choices for many years here in Illinois."
To read the entire article, go to
http://illinois.sierraclub.org/
and click on the link to Lake & Prairie, The Election Issue.
This is just a start on who Barack Obama is. Now, lets get back to the issues, starting with the economy, which has been destroyed by the anti-regulators in the Republican Party.

McCain is disturbing. His campaign shows what kind of president he would make- worse than even Bush. He is resorting to outright lying, not just about someone's record, but lying about someone else's character when he knows better. He has discarded all honor. And get Palin off the stage. She will say anything she is told to say. The behavior of these two border on criminal. Isn't there a law against slander and libel?

John McCain should lay off of Barack Obama's connection with Bill Ayers.
What he should point out is what the Reverend Jeremiah Wright stated at the National Press Club during his rant there this summer. Reverend Wright stated "Barack Obama is a politician and he will say anything to get himself elected". This is a revealing statement from someone who mentored him for over twenty years.
P.S. The Federal prosecutors revealed, in court, yesterday that they have entered into plea negotiations with Tony Rezko!

I can't focus on anything except the nodding/smirking Cindy McSame head in the backround.
I don't believe that Obama would have released the Keating 5 video if 2004 didn't happen (Swiftboat),but it did and he had to respond in kind. The difference in 2008 is that Americans are suffering and the Repug tactic of "scaring" the electorate falls on deaf ears. When the US loses 159,000 jobs in the month of September, and the candidate is on record saying that the "fundamentals of the economy are strong" & said candidate has 12 homes, 15 cars...... it's hard to believe he has my best interest.

From AP News...
Once close to Keating, McCain received $112,000 from him, his family and associates. The senator and his family also flew in Keating's plane to the Bahamas and — in the events that triggered the Senate investigation — took up his cause with financial regulators as they were investigating the businessman. Keating eventually went to prison. McCain eventually repaid $112,000 to the U.S. Treasury and reimbursed Keating for the trips.
The irony of the Keating case is that McCain received the mildest ethics committee rebuke of the five senators in 1991, and was kept as a defendant because he was the only Republican. The special counsel in the case had recommended that McCain and one of the Democrats be dropped as defendants. But Democrats, who controlled the Senate, refused to take all the heat for the scandal and all five remained in the case to the end.
Compared to Obama, who received approx $150,000 from convicted felon Tony Rezko, along with a sweetheart real estate deal.
Not much of a difference here and hypocritical of Dems to keep bring up.

Trey,
You fail to understand the facts. McCain was a close and PAID FOR representative of Keatings. He was a carpetbagger that ran for office within 1 year of his move to Arizona and finding his financing through Cindy & her father. He accepted trips & private jet flights and did not repay until under senate investigation. $112,000 then(is more than triple now.)As for Resko, no money was accepted and any he tried to contribute was returned immediately. No sweetheart, full market price was paid & the only interaction was to acquire an adjacent lot.
