Republican John McCain likes to call running mate Sarah Palin the most popular governor in America, but the Alaska governor's leading home-state newspaper has gone with someone else in its editorial endorsement: Democrat Barack Obama.
In its endorsement of Obama in the presidential contest, the Anchorage Daily News, Alaska's largest newspaper, called Palin "too risky" to be one step away from the Oval Office. "Like picking McCain for president, putting her one 72-year-old heartbeat from the leadership of the free world is just too risky at this time," the editors said.
The newspaper's editorial board concluded that Obama "brings far more promise to the office. In a time of grave economic crisis, he displays thoughtful analysis, enlists wise counsel and operates with a cool, steady hand."
The Daily News said that McCain has "stumbled and fumbled badly" in dealing with the economic crisis unfolding. "Of the two candidates, Sen. Obama better understands the mortgage meltdown's root causes and has the judgment and intelligence to shape a solution, as well as the leadership to rally the country behind it," the paper said.
Palin has demonstrated successes as a governor, the paper said, but few can argue that Palin is y ready to step into the job of being president, should that become necessary, despite her passion, charisma and strong work ethic.
"Gov. Palin's nomination clearly alters the landscape for Alaskans as we survey this race for the presidency -- but it does not overwhelm all other judgment.'' The editors said. "The election, after all is said and done, is not about Sarah Palin, and our sober view is that her running mate, Sen. John McCain, is the wrong choice for president at this critical time for our nation.''

Thank you, but the race is still tied and close. And I have been asking why for a long time.

I agree, we, the Democrats, must work hard, even on election day. Take nothing for granted. Help your neighbors, your friends, your family, anyone who needs a ride to the polling place. We need every vote we can muster. We don't want the Bush-McCain Republicans to try and pull another 2000 election !! Senator Obama has earned a victory in this election, simply by presenting honestly, his positions on many different and difficult issues. Something, unfortunately, Senator McCain didn't have to do, because we know President Bush's dismal policies and Senator McCain has vowed to continue, many of them !!
So, it's more of the same, with McCain-Palin, the Ticket to Nowhere, or it is a fresh start with Senator Obama and Senator Biden, the ticket that will allow us to forget the mean-spirited, Bush administrations !! So, go and vote America and vote for the ticket for hope and constructive change, the Obama-Biden ticket !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

Yes, and research shows that this is a liberal-owned newspaper and that they have ALWAYS endorsed the democratic candidate.

I love it when the "Laws of Irony" are strictly enforced.

What Mr. Silva hides from readers in this article:
The Anchorage Daily News endorsed Senator John Kerry in the 2004 presidential election. In the 2000 election, the Anchorage Daily News endorsed Senator Al Gore on October 29, 2000. The ADN is owned by the McClatchy Group, whose newspapers always lean hard left.
In other words, a historically Dem newspaper endorsed--the Democrat.
20 years ago, were newspaper articles (like the above) as biased as they are today? Or is it just that these days it's so much easier to catch them in their bias?

For Donna and Former Tribune Readers...Here's a short list of newspapers that endorsed Bush in 2004 that are endorsing Obama in 2008:
The Houston Chronicle
The Austin AMerican-Statesman
The Salt Lake Tribune
The Denver Post and, oh yeah, The Chicago Tribune. Don't dismiss all endorsements as being unfounded and biased. Just as I won't dismiss you as being ignorant and ill-informed.

Wow. That is a short list. It has to be, since the left owns the media, education, the coasts, and Hollyweird.

In light of subsequent history the ADN was correct in 00 and 04 also.

Like picking McCain for president, putting her one 72-year-old heartbeat from the leadership of the free world is just too risky at this time,"
But yet someone with less experience than Gov Palin, the newspaper will endorse for the heartbeat in the oval office?

Wow! Alaska governor's leading home-state newspaper has endorsed Democrat Barack Obama! The newspaper believes Governor Palin is "too risky to be one step away from the Oval Office." So, you heard it from Alaska. That says a lot! I think I'll email this article to everyone I know.

When the state you are from recommends the competition, that certainly says something. If you are curious about Sarah Palin's political history, I have a site to recommend.
http://dailysource.org/palin
It has in-depth links to hundreds of articles about Palin including many from newspapers and TV stations in Alaska. It has lots of rare footage, including her telling the ‘08 convention of the Alaskan Independence Party, whose aim is to give Alaska a vote on seceding from the U.S., to “keep up the good work” - and her complaining four months ago that Hillary Clinton was whining about “sexist” media coverage.
The site is non-partisan and its’ editors and volunteers include an Emmy-award winning CNN reporter, the former operating editor of the Christian Science Monitor’s web site, the former head of NPRs News Blog and the Executive Director of the Online News Association -

They have compiled an amazing amount of info on Palin. I recommend reading it.

If, as mittforprez asserts, the 'liberal' media has endorsed Obama then hasn't corporate America endorsed Obama as American main stream media is owned by large corporations.
