The Swamp

by John McCormick

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Sen. Barack Obama told tens of thousands of supporters here that he wants them to vote early, unless they are supporting his Republican opponent, Sen. John McCain.

"I especially want you to vote early if you're voting for me," he told an outdoor crowd estimated at more than 40,000 people at Colorado State University.

"If you are voting for the other guy, you should just wait until Nov. 5," he added, chuckling. "I'm just teasing. It's actually Nov. 4, is the election."

Obama also said he plans to keep his focus on the sagging economy.

"A couple weeks ago my opponent's campaign said, if we keep talking about the economy, we're going to lose," he said. "So, that's why I'm talking about the economy a lot."

Running ahead of schedule, Obama started his appearance here early and because of security and crowd control measures, people were still streaming into a tree-line area as he was finishing his speech.

Obama iis the joke not the election

Sorry George, we'll see who's laughing Nov. 5th.

What exactly what Obama can do for the economy? What is his records on the economy? How can he promise a tax cut for 95% of the taxpayers while also promises a $3 trillion spending plan? Obama must believe in fuzzy math because the numbers just simply don't add up. It's time for the American voters to wake up and realize that Obama is a candidate who makes promises without any means to carry them out.

i think you said : "who is laughing at Nov. 6th" right? , the election is in Nov 5 ,remember? ( "wink")

It may not be November 5th that will cause the laughter.

But, I most definitely WILL laugh at those Obama supporters who wonder what happened when their Chosen One fails to deliver on his campaign promises.

And he will. After winning an election (assuming he wins), all politicians fail to live up to their promises.

Senator Obama has been inspiring and connecting with people from the beginning of his campaign, this is one of the many reasons why people come, by the thousands, to personally hear and see him. Poor Senator McCain seems to draw the big crowds ONLY when Palin is with him.....I think their supporters attend the "twosome" rallies more out of curiousity about Palin than in support for McCain. After Palin speaks and McCain takes the microphone, people begin leaving. This is not good for McCain. Looks like they both split their own audiences....not a good example of unity for either. Their negative and trash-and-burn personal and political tactics also show how low they'll go to win the election at ANY cost to the country and our people. Do we really want such self-centered people running the country?? I think NOT!! Senator Obama and Senator Biden are FOR ALL people and believe in "A GOVERNMENT FOR THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE, AND OF THE PEOPLE. McCain and Palin only want to serve those whom THEY determine are the "Real Americans" "Pro-Americans" "Patriotic Americans" and God-loving Americans". They throw the rest of us under the bus, somehow identifying us as Un-American, Anti-American, Unpatriotic, and not loving God!! Wow, talk about dividing America's population based on THEIR beliefs and false view of us. They are absolutely shameles in their assumptions and have no business leading our great country.

If elected you will be sick of him in six months when all of his false promises begin to unwind-

Yall folks are talking crazy. Thanks to Bush - whoever is elected is going to get a PASS for their first term. Noone in their right mind expects someone to untangle this mess in one term.

Wait for it, when that happens we, who do not worship obama, can all send in our comments laughing at all the people that think Obama is the messiah who has come to save the world. And in four year when the US is in even worse shape than when Bush left office, we can hope all the repubs that voted dem wake up to the facts of life too late.

I believe you are wrong twice over. First, Bush didn't do in the economy. Presidents don't have the power over the economy that some think. The truth is that the economy tanked because the Federal Reserve Bank made excessive amounts of money available at cheap rates for years, and then failed to step on banks for their sub-prime lending spree. That is not Duh'bya's fault because the President has no say in, or veto power over, the decisions of the FRB. Neither does Congress. And, you know what else? That situation will not change unless Congress moves to overhaul the FRB.
.
In the second place, history is not on your side with regard to your claim that voters will give the next president a pass on the economy. Voters have never given the President a pass on the economy if they believed he had any role in its demise. Just look at what happened to Jimmy Carter and George H. W. Bush. Both ended up single term Presidents because the economy tanked on their watch even though neither had any real hand in causing the economy's slide.
.
Besides, Presidents and politicians in recent years have made too many promises about their ability to control the economy for them not to be held accountable. Just recall all the stuff President Clinton said about his ability to control the economy, and especially his claims regarding how many jobs he created. (The truth be told, he created 0 private sector jobs.) And now look at all the promises - and particularly "the plan" - that Obambi has for the economy. You don't think people are going to hold him accountable when his "plan" fails? (And it WILL fail.) To believe otherwise is just a lot of wishful thinking.

The president has nothing to do with the economy? are you serious? I understand the hold FRB and the sub-prime mortgages..but do you understand 12 BILLION dollars a month going to Iraq? stimulous package one failed..and now they pass this 700 billian dollar thing..and wheres the money coming from? oh well lets just cut taxes ta boot!!! seriously what sence does that make...spend,spend,spend..then keep cutting taxes...I mean I know no body likes taxes but how the hell do we pay for everything without them? some people just dont understand..to say president has nothing at all to do with the economy is ubserd

Who said that? I certainly didn't say that; nor did I say the federal government cannot negatively affect the economy. I said. "Presidents don't have the power over the economy that some think." And that's true. They really don't have as much power as some people think. The President does not operate the levers of control over a command economy.
.
Furthermore, my point was that the FRB was the prime mover in the economy's meltdown - and the President didn't have the power to countermand its actions (even if he was so inclined). That doesn't absolve Duh'bya of all the dumb stuff he has done. It merely points out that the primary cause of the current economic meltdown (and, thus, the lion's share of the blame) lies elsewhere.
.
Your examples, by the way aren't simply of the President doing stupid stuff. They are examples of the President and Congress doing stupid stuff together. Iraq would not have been possible had Congress not authorized the President's use force and then continued its financial support of the effort. We would have been out of Iraq by now had Congress simply pulled the plug. The $700 billion bail out you mention (which was actually an $850 billion bailout) was also the product of a foolish President acting in concert with a foolish Congress. The President cannot simply swipe that kind of change without Congress' approval. The Constitution says so. Thus, your examples are not good examples of pure presidential action.
.
As far as the further irresponsibility you mention, I totally agree that the federal government should never spend a penny more than it takes in revenue. The answer, however, isn't to go on increasing spending and tax people to death. The answer is to rein in spending and waste so that the government doesn't continuously spend more than it collects in taxes. If any one of us ran our finances the way the federal government runs its budget, the police would be at our door in nothing flat.

Never mind that hanging Chad stuff, look for the hanging Acorn among other things.
We need some sort of balance to the power period otherwise the radicals win no matter what end of the spectrum. I for one remember the duck and cover program of the sixties and seventies.
We don’t need put our children through that again. Putin wants to train the Cubans now
The North Koreans are ticked off and the Middle East is going to be up for grabs soon because
their president is sick. We need a real leader that knows all available options that’s been there.
Yeah Joe Biden’s been around, however it creeps me out that he was the evil president in the first Fahrenheit 451 movie when he was a Jr. Sen. It was only a cameo he appeared on a T.V. screen with his eyebrows brushed like he did in the debate.
