ORLANDO -- The third and final televised debate of the presidential election campaign drew a somewhat smaller audience in the nation's biggest markets than the second debate -- so much for the drawing power of "Joe the Plumber.''
Overall, Barack Obama and John McCain drew 38.3 percent of the households in the 55 biggest markets, Nielsen reports today -- with a final national count of the audience coming later. They had drawn 42.1 percent in their second debate.
Game Five of baseball's National League Championship Series game between Philadelphia and Los Angeles, certainly had something to do with it, Nielsen reports. L.A. and Philadelphia are the second and fourth largest TV markets in the nation.
The biggest debate audiences: Baltimore, Washington, DC., and St. Louis -- they've been watching closely in St. Louis, a battleground. The smallest audiences: New Orleans, L.A. and Sacramento.
