The Swamp

by Mark Silva

Michelle Obama made an appearance on Jay Leno's Tonight Show last night. When the talk show host thanked the candidate's wife, Obama shrugged: "It's the Tonight Show.''

Her two young daughters, however, "could care less'' about all this television and campaign business, she said. "Quite frankly, they could care less,'' she said of the activities of her husband, the Democratic presidential nominee. "When he comes home they're like, you know, let me show you my soccer trophy.''

Recently, she said, with family sitting around the kitchen table he was telling her mother about the all-network, prime-time campaign TV ad buy that his scamapign is making Wednesday evening. "Wednesday he's airing this...'' Michelle Obama said -- not quite sure what to call it. "He's on all the networks, I don't know what they're calling it, but he's all over the place.''

Daughter Malia asked: "You're going to be on all the TV? She says, 'Are you going to interrupt my TV?'''

"He says, 'No, we didn't buy time on Disney,' and she said 'Oh good.' And she got up and walked away. She was just like, 'You don't mess with my TV.'''

"Enough is Enough"

How cute. The Obamas seem like such a nice, normal family. Down to earth. God bless them. I pray they are our next first family.

You know, I agree with Obama's daughter. Don't mess with my TV. Stay off the channels entirely. Don't need to see another 30 minutes of his words and no actions.

It's funny the Obama's do not want their kids to be he subject of the campaign... unless they can help them get votes. It's absolutely disgusting to me that Obama would spend millions of dollars on another 30 minute ad for himself when this economy is in the tank.

If millions of dollars spent for this ad will help him win the presidency, it will be well worth it Susan. Keep hope alive.

I'm glad you put in quotes "could care less". Yep, that's actually what she said - instead of what she meant: COULDN'T care less - and it was shocking to her someone like Michelle Obama, who should know better, perpetuate this common linguistic error. Hearing that from her was just as grating as hearing Sarah Palin say "nukular".

With all the problems being left by Pres. Bush, I don't think having cute kids or even being a seasoned politician and war hero is going to be enough. I pray for the next president whoever he is.
