Sarah Palin: 'Rogue... diva... elephant?': The Swamp

Advisers not so privately complaining of rifts within the McCain campaign.

by Mark Silva

The rough morning story line on Sarah Palin:

The "rogue diva'' of the McCain campaign is starting to look out for her own future now that the Republican presidential nominee's prospects are in doubt. Or, as the New York Post puts it:

Palin in Indiana.jpg

"Sarah Palin is the rogue elephant in the GOP war room.''

The paper suggests "the maverick mom is distancing herself from John McCain and blowing off the advice of senior Republican aides, convinced they're damaging her reputation and ruining the campaign. Things have gotten so tense between Palin and her traveling staff, an insider said, that she's overruling their advice - which was evident last week when she ignored GOP aides piling into waiting cars at a Colorado event and strolled over to the press corps for an impromptu talk.''

A campaign official privately tells the paper: "She's now positioning herself for her own future. Of course, this is bad for John. It looks like no one is in charge."

ABC News, among others, notes that, in an interview with CNN, one McCain adviser anonymously called Palin "a diva" who is "playing for her own future" political prospects.

""She is a diva. She takes no advice from anyone," the advisor told CNN. "She does not have any relationships of trust with any of us, her family or anyone else. Also she is playing for her own future and sees herself as the next leader of the party. Remember: divas trust only unto themselves as they see themselves as the beginning and end of all wisdom."

Another McCain aide anonymously told Politico that Palin has been "going rogue" by criticizing strategic decisions by the McCain campaign, such as their use of robo-calls against Sen. Barack Obama in recent weeks, and the decision to pull out of the state of Michigan in early October.

(Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin pictured at a rally in Fort Wayne, Ind., Saturday, AP Photo/Darron Cummings)

ABC: The report in Politico cited tensions between the Palin and McCain camps, saying that Palin had become frustrated with McCain top advisors Steve Schmidt and Nicole Wallace. The two aides were key in formulating the early media strategy for Palin, limiting her to two major interviews with network news anchors Charles Gibson and Katie Couric -- both of which were widely criticized.

Schmidt and Wallace do not regularly travel with Palin, although they have during critical moments, including when she returned to Alaska for her first network interview with ABC's Gibson, and during her week of secluded debate preparation at McCain's ranch in Sedona, Arizona.

Wallace told ABC News: "If folks want to lay this at my feet and throw me under the bus, my belief is that the graceful thing to do is to lie there."

The Post sums up the story:

"In speeches, Palin has contradicted her running mate's positions on issues, telling a Christian news outlet last week that she would support a constitutional amendment against same-sex marriage, which McCain opposes.

"Though McCain once said he considered Obama's relationship with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright to be an old issue, this month Palin said, "I don't know why that association isn't discussed more."

"Palin also publicly stated that she thought it was a mistake for the campaign to give up on Michigan, and that she thought voters were annoyed by robocalls - which McCain uses extensively.

"The last straw for the vice-presidential candidate was the raft of criticism from the $150,000 worth of high-end clothes the Republican National Committee bought her, a campaign source said.

"Palin showed how much that gaffe got under her skin yesterday at a rally in Sioux City, Iowa, telling the crowd she'd stepped off the plane and donned a warm, cream-colored jacket.

"And it's my own jacket," she said.

"A McCain insider told The Post that relations between Palin and some of the campaign aides with her have soured. "She's lost faith with the staff. She knows the $150,000- wardrobe story damaged her," the insider said.

But the novice vice-presidential candidate is partly to blame, the campaign official sniped. "She's an adult. She didn't ask questions about where the clothes came from?" the source said. "She's now positioning herself for her own future. Of course, this is bad for John. It looks like no one is in charge."

CNN, Silva, and the usual anonymous sources The Swamp always trots out to attack Republicans.

Reporters, actual reporters, should prove that these alleged and unnamed "advisers" and "campaign officials" actually exist and actually said what they're quoted as saying. In other words, readers deserve the Whole Truth. Otherwise, the article should be ignored.

Good for Sarah! About time. The so-called experts wasted Sarah Palin's talents for weeks and set her up for the disastrous interviews with Couric and Gibson that I'm sure left most of her best lines on the cutting room floor. Obviously a case of people who don't understand the candidate trying to make her into something they DO understand. They should get out of the way and let the Rogue Sarah trample the opposition. The first thing she should do is open the unReverand Wright to critical scrutinty.

If Sarah Palin is the future leader of the Republican God help us because our pathetic two party system will quickly be a one party system with the Democrats being the only viable party.

well, well, who she REALLY is should not surprise any McCainers now that they saw the abuse of power, the lies, the leaving of Wasila in debt and how she had to hire a 50,000 buck a year administrator to run a town smaller than my former high school...ha!
She's vetted now baby. I predict she'll go back to Alaska NOT being the most popular governor in the US...believe you me... bye bye Miss America Pie--your pie chart's tanking.

Palin is over the top. She thinks Obama is a Communist. Isn't that so 90's. ...................

Senator McCain did our nation and Governor Palin, a great disservice, by choosing an individual that was not ready for such a high Office, at this time in her political career. To place such an under-qualified person, a heartbeat away for the awesome responsibilities, as a President has, was ludicrous, if not dangerous !! It is a glaring example of Senator McCain's renown lack, of good judgement. Another, would be his choice for one of his economic advisers. Phil Gramm has been at the public trough for most of his life, he doesn't understand, nor if I were to hazard a guess, doesn't even care, about the plight of the working and middle classes, especially during these Bush-McCain Republican years !! After all, wasn't it Phil Gramm, who called us, a nation of " whiners " !!
These are just two, but very important, examples of Senator McCain's inability to make sound, serious judgements. Anybody as erratic as that, should not hold the highest Office in our land, our Presidency !! Leave that Office for a more capable individual, Senator Obama. He isn't in anybody's pockets, like those Bush-McCain Republicans are !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

I thought a diva was an opera singer.

Trouble with letting the Rogue Sarah loose is the exact reason that the advisers have kept her under wraps. They know, as does everyone else she is void of any knowledge of anything. She wasn't even aware of how much oil Alaska exports or what the export laws are, and this was supposed to be her STRENGTH?

McCain picked a female clone of himself. Obviously two "arrogant + ignorant" people won't function as a team. Remember, "they're MAVERICKS". Lot's of grandstanding, but zero leadership & teamwork skills.

I love it when somebody reads an entire article but says they're going to "ignore" it because it doesn't reach the conclusion they want to see.

Palin's a fraud. Just admit it. She's been playing this campaign from day one, looking out only for herself.

Sarahhh Desperate Housewife from Pasadena, more like.

Who was it said, "It's over" when Sarahhhh was unveiled?

Peg o my heart, Noooonan???

Seems Noonan got that one right.

Paline Unplugged will be the final nail in the McCain/Palin campaign's coffin.

It's hard to believe that Democrats have become so angry. I thought Dems are for the people. Not just the poor people, but all people. Why do you attack Sarah? She is the highest rated Governor in America. Rod is one of the lowest Governors in America. I don't hear you bashing him or his wife. What is wrong with America? If Hillary was the Nominee, you would not be bashing what she wears, or what she says. We need people to quit bashing politicans from the party they don't support and act like adults.

Sarah is a great person. She brings change to Washington.

Biden does not offer Change. Obama does not offer Change. McCain picked a Vice that actually brings change.

God help us if Obama gets elected.

This surprises anyone? She's a cliche. The hyper-pretty, hyperconservative American woman in her 40s. Smarmy, self-absorbed, absolutely lacking in self awareness or *real* concern for others. Our culture has created an army of these things and we will all suffer for it.

I was offended by Palin from the moment she was introduced to the country. She was picked to attract Clinton voters, as if one woman was interchangeable for another. How arrogant. Do you think woman are unable to think for themselves? My negative feelings for her have only grown as I have watched this shrill, ignorant woman parade herself as an expert on everything. She is a joke (that is why people tune into SNL) and people only laugh with Tina Fey's Palin, while they laugh at the real thing.

palin is just a twit, a ditz, a nut job. but there are many who love those kinds of people. the nation is full of twits, ditzes, nut jobs and increasing in numbers.

That is what mavericks are. That is what they do. They don't understand team, they don't understand that at all.

Now Sarah's problem is not her handlers or McCain, although they have not really helped her much. Her problem is Sarah Palin.

Marc Antony chose Cleopatra, who subsequently abandoned him during battle. Is this a re-run? Or the beginnings of a Palin power-grab? I'm afraid John McCain will wish he had never seen her pretty face. Samson and Delilah.

She's an evil witch. I dislike her more than I dislike McBush.

Some day the republicans will wise up, return to practising real conservatism and kick the religious anchor to the curb. The religious dictated who to pick for vice president and it sank McBushs run for president.

It is amazing that there are still some Palin supporters out there. Her goal is to run for President in 2012. Even if she would survive the Primaries the Republican "base" would be her only supporters. It would be another big victory for the Democrats. Hope that the Republicans have a candidate that is more qualified than what she offers.

As a now former Republican who voted Obama I am just lovin' the collapse of the embarrassin' John McCain and Sarah Palin ticket; Country First !!!!

No way in all of hell this woman should have been a "serious" choice for any national ticket. I just do not get how she fooled the people of Alaska into votin' HER in as their governor.

It is inexcusable for John McCain to have overlook all the well qualified to pick this woman who must think that book learnin', readin', writin', and being knowledgeable on things outside of her eye view is a kinda poison to her brain.

So Palin is turning on those who got her into her current position. This is what she has done throughout her political career. Why is anyone surprised? Swim with the sharks if you like, but please don't complain when one of them makes a meal of you.

Sarah Palin is the best thing that could have happened to the left - for this and future election cycles. Palin as the leader of the Republican party in the future? Laughable. She's dumb as a rock - McSame's campaign says so - and we on the left welcome her as the leader of the right.

This is a very good example of what is wrong with the GOP. The Far Christian Right has weaseled their way into the party because they knew they would never have credibility or electability as a third party. Now the party of Lincoln and Regan is being torn down by this in fighting. The lies and untruths are so rampant by these so called “Christians” who use made up e-mails to scare older and uneducated people to death. And so help an educated Republican who actually looks up facts and makes what they feel is the best decision to help this great country proper…the Christian Right has labeled you “RINO” or “Liberal”. No, like Gen Powell I’m a retired vet who is scared to death of letting someone like Sarah Palin anywhere close to the White House and control of the armed forces. She hasn’t been Governor two years yet. The ANG doesn’t monitor and protect the skies of Alaska, the USAF does. Gov Palin does not control the USAF. She learns what the USAF wants her to learn when they want her to learn it. At least Obama has Biden to confer with on foreign issues. Palin doesn’t listen to anyone and as they found during the Troopergate investigation, apparently she lets her husband bully cabinet members for her. There were a lot of choices McCain could have made, Kay Bailey Hutchinson being one, but he really screwed this one up. This alone shows us all he shouldn’t be President of the United States.

SARAH IS THE PERFECT SCAPEGOAT. A DISTRACTION.
WHAT ABOUT OBAMA BIRTH CERTIFICATE? WHERE WAS HE REALLY BORN? MOMBASSA, HAWAI?
WHY OBAMA IS STILL REFUSING TO PROVIDE HIS ORIGINAL BIRTH CERTIFICATE INSTEAD OF A SIMPLE BIRTH CERTIFICATION? WHAT IS HE HIDDING? WHO WAS HIS DRUG DEALER? WHERE IS HE HIDDING? HOW DID HE GET TO HARVARD? WHERE DID HE GET THE MONEY? WHY SO MANY SECRETS AND SEALED DOCUMENTS ABOUT THIS GUY?
THESE ARE OTHER LEGITIMATE ISSUES NOT REPORTED BY BIAS MEDIA:
You have not tried to find Barack Obama's drug dealer that he wrote about in his book, Dreams of My Father.

what do they say about rats and sinking ships.

the ship ( bus ) is sinking and it is everyone for him/herself.

Sarah Palin is being vilified for being a traditional, conservative, self-made out-spoken woman. She doesn't fit the image of the "modern" woman the media is trying to sell so she is perceived as a threat. Yet she has had more executive experience than any of the other candidates and has had to make real decisions affecting budgetary, energy, administrative, and social policy.(Senators do not make decisions- they make deals). She has at least as much experience as Reagan, Clinton, and Bush did as governors. Meanwhile, the other presidential candidates belong to a Congress with only a 9% approval rating and which has helped get us into the mess we're in. You may not agree with her views but at least she's got guts. She came out of nowhere and has saved McCain's abysmal campaign twice already. Maybe they ought to let her run the show.

Sadly, Gov Palin is truly a lying, self promoting, opportunist; who even uses her children as props in her photo ops and who spends hard earned tax payer dollars ($14K for example) to sleep in her own home.

As for wearing $150K worth of clothing and $22K for hair and makeup - please, calling her a "Diva' hardly sums up that kind of abuse when people are loosing jobs and their 401K's.

We here in Alaksa are shocked and ashamed of her. Petitions have been started to have her removed from office when she returns.

It's just wonderful, isn't it? John McCain can't even pick himself a running mate that he can keep under control. He's a loser, and so is Palin. The republicans will throw them both under the bus, as soon as this election is over..

And I can't wait for this to all be over...

Palin is nothing less than a train wreck forced on McCain by Huckabee and the less-enlightened leaders of the Religious Right who were duped into following him.

Obama supporters who trashed Palin from day one are ranting about her wardrobe and other petty matters, while an anti-American Socialist / Marxist racist is about to highjack our government, with the help of voter fraud, and a corrupt biased media. You'd better wake up America ... or, this country is about to experience an ugly 4 year long nightmare under Obama/Biden !!!

It looks like the circular firing squad is starting to form.

McCain picked a female clone of himself. Obviously two "arrogant + ignorant" people won't function as a team. Remember, "they're MAVERICKS". Lot's of grandstanding, but zero leadership & teamwork skills.

ENJOY YOUR FREEDOM THROUGH THE SACRIFICES OF PEOPLE LIKE John McCain. Exactly 41 years ago, John McCain was shot down in Hanoi. Insults what you get back when you put your country first. The pictures of this almost dead man being rescued speaks for themselves, a miracle. Sarah Palin is a mother of five children, her son Track is serving in Irak. Her son Trig was diagnosed with Down Syndrome.
This is a smart, capable, courageous and dedicated woman, a Governor. She deserves to be treated with respect.

WHY SHAMELESS DEVOTION TO A MAN WHO IS LYING TO THE WHOLE COUNTRY ABOUT: JEREMIAH WRIGHT, TONY REZKO, BILL AYERS, NADHMI AUCHI, AL MANSOUR, FARRAKHAN. HOW DID OBAMA AFFORD DRUGS & COCAINE FROM HIGH SCHOOL TO COLLEGE? DID HE SELL IT? DID HE GIVE IT TO OTHER PEOPLE? WHEN DID HE STOP? CAN HE PROVE IT?
ANGRY ABOUT FRAUDS & CORRUPTION IN WALL STREET TO TOLERATE THIS? GIVE ME A BREAK! SHAMELESS IS BECOMING THE MAIN STREET NEW STANDARD! GOOD LUCK!
Max

She warned everyone when she said whe was a pitbull (or bulldog, can't remember which), with lipstick. She just didn't say she was one that would bite her owner if necessary. God bless sarah pallin, she wants to turn america back to the 1950's, an have a cold war with every country in the world.

This division was so predictable. Try to mesh a cowardly campaign trying to suck up to "the middle" and "the independents" with a principled, godly woman and you have a perfect recipe for conflict. Reagan and Bush won because they were principled. Palin is cut of the same cloth.

McCain's advisors apparently haven't understood what a gem they have because now they've accused her of posturing for the future, not realizing that she's simply articulating the passionate principles that have made her great.

Real Republicans are principled, RINO's like Colin Powell are not.

Who can fault her for playing the diva role. It was created by John McCain to salvage his crumbling campaign. It gets so old debating the far right on the breathtakingly absent credentials of Ms. Palin as leader of the free world. Her introduction at the RNC was like a one of those spectacular fireworks when it explodes in the sky, creating this dazzling image but fleeting image, and then disappears in a trail of smoke not to be seen again. I predict that Ms. Palin will fade into political obscurity after this disastrous debut with only memories of the spot-on Tina Fey impersonation living on. Some have speculated she is best suited for a television talk show. There are a lot of telegenic people out there. What keeps people tuning in to them is what substance they offer from the inside. As far as I can tell, there is nothing but snow between this woman's ears. Do your country a favor, Sarah and please take the nearest ice float to Alaska and stay there.

Mike is right.
Also strikes me that the old Repuglican trick bag is useless if Obama wins.
Wedge issues, warnings of "block " voting, "moral majority' gamesmanship,
gaybashing, all their old standbys, presumably, will go the way of antiCatholicism in the 1960 election.

So, what's left for them?
Ayn Rand. O, wait: Maestro Greenspan just left that church.

My guess is they will, like that cop in that Terminator flick, morph into "Blue Dogs" and try to form a 5th column within the Dem party.

Exhibit A: Lieberman. Say hello to my little friend, as JMcC might say: Joe the New Democrat.

What else can a morally and intellectually bankrupt political party try?

I find it interesting that the McCain camp is surprised by Palin's behavior. If McCain had done his homework regarding Palin, he would not have chosen her. Palin is proving that if by chance McCain ends up in the White House she will do her own thing. Palin will say just the opposite if she disagrees with McCain. Is that what we want in the White House? Palin has her own agenda and she is not good at hiding it or pretending like she agrees with McCain. Palin does not know how to play the game which will be her downfall in politics. I doubt that Palin will be elected for a second term as Governor in Alaska.

Susan B. Anthony has got to be rolling in her grave, right now.

Hillary was right about the sexist attacks in this campaign season.

I don't recall Edwards catching the kind of heat Palin's catching, and she certainly has more experience than Johhny boy had.

Strike that, I don't recall ANY VP candidate, on either ticket, catching the kind of heat Palin's catching.

But, she's a republican, so it's alright to be a sexist hypocrite, I guess.

I'll give her credit, though, she's the only candidate showing any spine whatsoever.

Palin for president in 2012? What, Do you think the American people are THAT stupid? She's her own worst enemy. Every time she talks off the robotic lines that were spoonfed her, you see the real Palin. This pea brain isn't even fit for her current job as governor of Alaska. Maverick? No. Stupid? YES! Go ahead Sarah, distance yourself from your advisors. Then we'll see the real Sarah Palin. I have never seen a more pathetic political candidate in my life. She is the most two faced arrogant liar of all the candidates. Bridge to Nowhere, getting their house built by the same contractors who put up the Athletic center AT THE SAME TIME mind you, and no record of receipts for materials or labor. Oh, and the $100,000.00 cloths that will be given back to Charity? Yeah right. They are still in the cargo hold on the plane so they can dump them out in Palin's backyard of her free taxpayer funded house up in Alaska. Oh and don't forget the sweetheart oil pipeline deal she rigged for exactly one company. How's that goin' for you Sarah? How can anyone not see through this person? I have.

She's got bigger balls than any of the other wussies in the election!

GO! GO! SARAH! Illinois loves you!!!

Spine??? She is breathtakingly arrogant, just like Bush: uninformed but an absolutist on her opinions; bored with details and policy, but completely unwilling to compromise or accept advice. Only the people who voted in Bush twice could not see through her. As for being a feminist, LOL. Being female does not automatically qualify you as feminist. Being a diva pitbull is just being a pitbull with poor judgment. Of all the hugely qualified Republican politicians out there, McCain chose the prettiest but the least qualified. Uncharitable people would say it is comparable to choosing a trophy wife.

I am heading off to the store for some Yukon Jack and S'mores. There's a Republican bonfire, and I want to be there!!

"This surprises anyone? She's a cliche. The hyper-pretty, hyperconservative American woman in her 40s. Smarmy, self-absorbed, absolutely lacking in self awareness or *real* concern for others. Our culture has created an army of these things and we will all suffer for it."

A brilliant and well stated observation, Ian. She is a perky, aggressive, marginally talented sportscaster Peter-Principaled to a position of extreme incompetence.

There has never been a clearer choice in an American presidential elction. If the Obama/Biden ticket does not prevail, this will not be a fit country for sane, intelligent, educated citizens.

Hey Max, get real man - and why do you have to SHOUT?

Watch out guys. The Post isn't going to embarass themselves by igniting a fire with this story. They did endorse McCain afterall.
No, the Post is letting all undecided Republican voters know, "look, McCain is dead...we all want Palin and we'll run the administration from the VP office like we did for the first 4 years with Bush.
We have similar kinds like Wolfowitz, Pearle, Delay, Rove, Rumsfield & Cheney in the wings that can run things for Sarah"
I will predict (for some sort of health issues) McCain doesn't last 9 months if elected. They want to invade IRAn asap...not 2-3-4 years from now. Israel doesn't want them to wait!

In God's name, What decision could Palin we trusted to make if it came to calling a pre-empitive strike on Iran like Bush did. Do you think she has convinced the world of her knowledge, wisdom and diplomacy for them to follow?
I don't think so. You might want to read some international blogs.

Howie; Enjoy your ugly 4 year long nightmare.

I have been a Democrat since the early 1990's, I used to believe the GOP was a party of my beliefs, never again unless they change.

If they dump the Religious Right, and begin to practice TRUE conservative economics they can become once again the opposition party that a two party system needs, if not they will only be able to attract the 30% base and little else. Leave the religious/moral questions to the family and the church and not the state.

If FEAR is all the Republicans have left they are running out of ideas and of time. We are no longer full of fear, those still in the GOP, the Base, are sill hoping for some sort of "October Suprise" - terrorist attack to sway the American public back. This time we may be too cynical, any attack may be percieved as NOT prevented by the GOP but initiated by the GOP in order to play their last fear card.

In the end it is a double edged sword: if a terrorist attack happens the GOP can claim they are the party to prevent this, but the reality is that they have said for the last 8 years that Americans are safer with them in charge and an attack with them in charge will expose the lie that they can protect us.

So she is a maverick rogue now? A rogue must be a maverick who is a bad maverick; not a good maverick, I guess. So, that makes her a hockey mom rogue maverick reformer who, in her marvelous Saks clothing, drinks 6 packs with Joe on the bridge to nowhere.

Cheney - Palin pipeline scandal

"An AP investigation and Saturday report reveals that the plans for building a 1700+ mile-long Alaska-to-Lower-48 natural gas pipeline that Sarah Palin’s been stumping about since the RNC Convention in September came about through "a flawed bidding process that narrowed the field to a company with ties to her administration". Though this news may not make you clinch down sharply, what the investigation determined and discovered in detail may.
In January 2007, Palin spoke the first of at least two times to Vice President Dick Cheney, the Bush administration's point person on energy issues, according to calendars obtained by the AP through a public records request. Cheney's staff pressed the Palin administration to draw in the energy companies, said current and former state officials involved in those discussions.
It’s worth the read if for nothing else to consider how much phone time she had with Dick."

McCain should have picked Bloomberg as his running mate. I would have been more inclined to vote for him. As for now I think I will sit out this election

Wallace told ABC News: "If folks want to lay this at my feet and throw me under the bus, my belief is that the graceful thing to do is to lie there."

Yes, well said Mr. Wallace. Why stand on principle if you can lie there and take it?

I guess my search for what's wrong with the Republican party is over. Thanks.

It's interesting about the liberal hype, she was being attacked for following special interest groups who advised Bush. Now she is being attacked because she is considering the advice but making up her own mind.

Rogue no, her own person "yes". Sarah Palin is at her best when she is able to be herself. Quite frankly, her views which differ from McCain appeal to the conservative base.

My advice to Sarah, you go girl! Your doing well! Keep up the good work!

Sarah Palin, accusing Obama of hanging with a "terrorist", is actually married to a member of the Alaskan Independent Party. This party, as you may already know, was founded with the intent, as it says on their web site at http://www.akip.org, of seceding from the union. Many will agree that they have that right, but perhaps the people supporting her and McCain should look closer at what the founder of the party, Joe Volger, has to say about our country:

"I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America or her damned institutions." Joe Vogler

"The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government. And I won't be buried under their damn flag. I'll be buried in Dawson. And when Alaska is an independent nation they can bring my bones home." Joe Volger

"The problem with you John Birchers is that you are too damn liberal!" Joe Volger

So, does that make the AIP, also closely linked to the John Birch Society, a terrorist organization? If nothing else they are right wing extremists and violently anti-American. And just as obviously, anyone who agrees with their views, is essentially saying that they too are Anti-American!

Sarah Palin claims she is not associated with the AIP. Yet her husband Todd is a member, and as this video show's, so was she. Check out what this AIP speaker says about Sarah Palin starting right at the 6:00 minute mark.

http://video.google.com/v...mp;resnum=4&ct=title#

He says she was a member of the AIP but joined the republican party in order to get elected. He also says she dislikes the Republican party. So, she is a mole, tied to and married into a right wing extremist group. She lies and says she has no association with the AIP, but here is the head of the AIP, saying she was a member, and also that she only became a member of the GOP in order to get elected.

Cool! Finally something neat to talk about on the Republican side of things! I say they are better off when she goes her own way. McCain's staff screwed up when they hid her for a month. She has far more personality than McCain and does his campaign good.

Yeah! Keep up the good work Sarah! You have almost single-handedly (I think McCain is owed some credit) managed to offend and disillusion any moderate republicans that might still exist. Future leader of the GOP?
Riggghhtt..

I wonder who writes the first book pinning McCain's loss on his choice of running mate, and what that books says about how it was the public, and not the RNC or John McCain, who vetted Palin. This election certainly taught us the political process is changing. Welcome to the information age - sandbagging will no longer work.

Now, time for a little "straight talk". I am a Democrat, I strongly support Barack Obama, have wanted to see him in the White House since he was elected to the Senate, and I have already voted for him in early voting. That said, I am severely disappointed John McCain did not make a showing in this campaign. I realize that during the furor of this election and all the spin which comes out of both campaigns, most have probably forgotten John McCain is a very moderate Republican. The fact is John McCain (sans Palin) would probably have made a decent president. He's not my preference, but I certainly wouldn't apply for Canadian citizenship if he won. Against the standard set over the last 8 years, John McCain would probably have done a decent job putting us back on the right track (though I believe Obama will not only put us on track, he will lead us up the track). For that reason, I, for one, was looking forward to the first election in decades where actual policies were debated, instead of personal attacks. I have been severely disappointed that this election has been completely about personal attacks for John McCain and largely about personal attacks for Barack Obama.

That said, McCain has been forced to defend his running mate in each and every speech and interview - a mess of his own doing, for sure. McCain hand-picked a running mate who has not read the Constitution, who cannot speak intelligently about any substantive topic in this election, and is vindictive and self-serving to boot.

Straight talk - Barack Obama and John McCain are both valid choices for president. To me, Obama presents an aggressive and honest agenda, where McCain's agenda seems as though it was peiced together in haste. Advantage Obama.

Sen. Biden understands his role, even if he's not happy with it it in his heart. Sarah Palin - in the words of McCain's advisors who probably know her better than all but her family at this point - is not ready. She does not know the role of the Vice President after 8 weeks in the national spotlight (the job is only mentioned 4 times in the Constitution - light reading, people). She is making enemies of press figures hand picked by her to throw her softballs. She has shown an impressive lack of understanding by aligning herself with rightist radicals who are screaming "sexism" at the wardrobe inquiries, and yet, she giggles, winks, and likes to be called "hot". Now, she is lashing out at McCain - the guy whose only mistake is he was too hasty and too trusting. John McCain really should have asked the questions all of us did and passed her over to begin with, but we the voters must cast our votes based on the names on the ballot, not what should have been. Strong advantage Biden, but shame on you, RNC and John McCain for picking the national stage to "learn on the job" that decisions of national import must be made following intense thought and discussion.

Obama is my choice for president. But I feel bad for John McCain, a man who unquestionably loves his country and wants to have a hand in fixing it, but made a critical err in his choice of alignment. McCain would do well to place the spotlight on his policies by canceling the remainder of Sarah Palin's public appearances, campaign on his own for the last week of this thing, and close out his campaign with the dignity and class which define his life.

Keep piling on you lefty sluggos. As it turns out, Palin's dismantling of poor old Joe Biden was more what's left of his health and ego than it was her skill. But she'll be a force to reckon with in the future from the GOP.

Since Obama discarded Hillary Clinton like an old girl friend, Palin IS the face of feminism -- or did you morons not see the ringing endorsement by the Los Angeles chairperson of NOW a few weeks ago?

What a self obsessed arrogant woman,to call her a diva is an insult to other divas. You can tell why she wears those glasses, especially ones those size,to look intelligent when she clearly isn't.Nobody can control that type of person who ignores any advice. If McCain gets get elected she's a heartbeat away from being President, that is a very frightening prospect. As for thinking red is sexy she won't wait to get her hands on the red nuclear destruct button.

McCain should be watching his back not Obama.

This entire entry is only an opinion and while none, some or all of it could be factual it is presented as an opinion and not claiming to be fact.

Obama is going to be the only thing close to a friend McCain has left in the coming months.

It is my opinion that the following scenario is not only possible but likely and is probably taking place right now using the media and the public as tools or should I say fools.

Sarah's book is going to fry McCain like bug under a magnifying glass on a hot day.

She will blame her handlers for manipulating, controlling, bribing and even threatening her and her family to do what she has done, which she will claim was under extreme protest.

She will turn him into pig fodder so she can be all the things he said she was.

She is not going down with the ship and further, she will start or has started doing things now that will seemingly prove what she is going to write about.

He said, she was the new light, the change the Republicans have been waiting for, the breath of fresh air.

With that, he gave her the power to destroy him and she will do exactly that in her book.

If she will sell her soul to support him, then she will sell her soul to destroy him if the money and power is there and it will be.

The Republicans do not need McCain any longer, they only needed him because he had some value to them.

Now, he has unknowingly passed the torch, empowered her be the next leader in the party.

In fact he has already endorsed her for president.

Do not think that Sarah hasn't spoken to her family about that likely possibility of her being president in either scenario McCain winning or losing the election.

The Republicans will abandon McCain like used toilet paper and they will let her do what she does best.

He was correct, she is bright, intelligent and charismatic but she has little to no ethics.

He may have picked her for that exact reason. He taught her well, and she learns the game very fast.

She will use his own weapons of deception against him, with the blessing of the Republican party.

She knows exactly what do to Lie, Cheat and Steal causing fear, uncertainty and doubt to get to the next rung on her way to the top.

She also knows how to get rich doing it and that is certainly all the motivation she needs.

You cannot hire a mercenary like Sarah that has loyalty, because they only work for money.

However having said that, McCain is not so stupid that he doesn't see this coming.

What her arrogance hasn't prepared her for is that he has a plan also.

No real politician doesn't have a back up plan and McCain knows this game better than most.

The plan will have to show her going renegade, out on her own, saying things that get near or crosses the line of credibility. So much so that she and her actions will not be forgotten by the public and will be recorded as proof by the media.

Further, that information has to get leaked to the press from inside the McCain camp to retain the authenticity of the allegations.

That will give him reasonable deniability and provide necessary distraction from her book.

It will be interesting to watch this double betrayal as it unfolds.

What will also be entertaining is to see the Republican party sway back and forth as the public opinion moves from one person to the other.

Did you hear about the McCain campaign committee aide that just quit the campaign? He said that people are fed with Palin's BS. She wasn't honest with some of the vetting staff about the troopergate affair, and how this embarrassed McCain’s campaign. Now her corruption and violation of ethics with the TransCanada deal has finally come to light. He said that Palin loved the designer clothing; she also bought her younger daughter a designer purse she has no intention of giving to "charity." Guess this little gal is quite the phony

dear mark, why do the negative
comments for McCain/ Palin
make it through your screen?
e.g. calling Palin an "evil witch".
but quoting facts you don''t
like get cut e.g. Obama has
voted for terminating a newborn
if he or she survives the abortion

The future of the GOP what a fitting end.How can ANYONE think this person could be the future of the GOP?Good God the women is and evil war monger, hate women and uses her children as wall paper in her campaign. You know a pigs a pigs even when to dress it up and put lip stick on it.

A President and Vice President are supposed to work as a team and in unison—any differences between the two should never be seen in public. The comments that Palin has gone rouge are quite believable given that she disregards and contradicts John McCain more frequently than not. We have run out of good things to say about Palin and we did it quickly indicating a very shallow person. I see McCain spending as much time defending the actions of Palin as he does attacking Obama—had Palin not been on the republican ticket McCain may have had time to campaign.

If Sarah Palin was such a strong addition to the McCain ticket, then why did the largest newspaper in Alaska, the Anchorage Daily News, come out today and endorse Obama?

And if the McCain/Palin line is still that Barack Obama needs to disclose the full extent of his relationship with William Ayers than why doesn't Palin have to disclose the full extent of her relationship as well as her husband's with the Alaskan Independence Party. A party whose platform was to secede from the Union.

How can there still be Palin supporters out there? I was leaning for McCain in this election, and he showed real weakness in the judgement category by picking this lame VP ahead of the qualified candidates available. Just voted for Obama today!

McCain is an underdog and is going to come roaring back just like in Jan/Feb 2008 when everyone counted him out. Wait a minute, the guy sides with Bush on nearly everything. Like Hillary Clinton, Palin will wash out.
We need a new voice. Someone that doesn't exactly know how the place works like Obama. I used to like McCain and even gave the guy $35 back in 2002 but then I started to see he didn't have the character to be President. As for Palin, I really don't know enough about her, no one really does. If we elect another Republican this time, I think we will be sabatoging ourselves.

Who's scary.. of course Obama:

I just watched Hannity's -- who I won't vote for Obama..

Surely Palin is history now anyway. After this fiasco of a campaign she will be left with about as much credibility as my old Magic Eight Ball minus the batteries. The Republican failure to trot out and maintain a consistent message is one of the most curious and bizarre failings in politics I have ever seen.

What a mistake. I should have voted for Huckabee. I will not make the same mistake twice. This time I'm voting for Obama and if Sarah shows her ugly head in 2012, I will officially become a Democrat.

"Her lack of fundamental understanding of key issues is dramatic."

Nope, that's not my phrase.
Nope, not from the Obama/Biden campaign either.

A McCain advisor tossed those out on CNN yesterday. 'Nuff said.

It's almost too late for Gov. Palin to go "rogue"! If she were a Maverick she would have gone "rogue" from the beginning. Now that her reputation is tarnished it will be difficult for her to turn it around, now we don't know who the real Gov. Palin is and there's not enough time left to find out. Is she a leader or a follower? Will she do anything to be on the Republican ticket? Would you accept a position that you aren't prepared for? The $150,000 wardrobe was not a problem until it became a media story. Where is being donated to? I think that story came up, "after" the fact. Sure the Dems have expensive cloths, but they purchased them themselves! Gov. Palin has dug a hole for herself, I hope she can turn it around and come out on top!

What you see is what you get. After 8 long years, it is apparentthat Bush is the same idiotic guy he appeared to be when he first began campaigning, despite Karl Rove's attempts to convince us otherwise. Sarah Palin is obviously Bush in a dress. Does anyone really want to put another Joe Sixpack in charge of this country again at ANY point in time????

Sarah Palin: would make communists look downright liberal in their views. She wants to impose her views on everything. And she thinks she is qualified! "I didn't blink" she says of being asked to be VP. WHAT? She admits she gave no consideration to whether or not she was qualified to be VP, a heartbeat away from Presidency? The arrogance is astounding.
What I don't get – above all things – is the contradiction of how rabid these "right to lifers" can get over a woman's decision to control her own body ... yet they will gleefully kill children in other countries, both American and foreign, with their no questions asked support of the war(s). How is an unborn life, a fetus with no chance of living independently, worth more than a sentinent human being?

Isn't a rogue maverick rather redundant?
