The Swamp

by Frank James

Back at the end of July, I wrote a posting ruling out a McCain-Palin ticket. I figured Troopergate had sunk her chances. What presidential candidate willingly takes on a running mate with such a liability?

Shows you how much I know. I'm the same guy who thought the jury in the original O.J. Simpson murder trial would find him guilty.

Anyway, based on the latest NY Times/CBS News poll, it looks like Sen. John McCain should've gone with my very conventional wisdom.

That poll indicates that Palin is a drag on the ticket.

A growing number of voters have concluded that Senator John McCain's running mate, Gov. Sarah Palin of Alaska, is not qualified to be vice president, weighing down the Republican ticket in the last days of the campaign, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

All told, 59 percent of voters surveyed said Ms. Palin was not prepared for the job, up nine percentage points since the beginning of the month. Nearly a third of voters polled said the vice-presidential selection would be a major factor influencing their vote for president, and those voters broadly favor Senator Barack Obama, the Democratic nominee.

And in a possible indication that the choice of Ms. Palin has hurt Mr. McCain's image, voters said they had much more confidence in Mr. Obama to pick qualified people for his administration than they did in Mr. McCain.

I feel vindicated about O.J. too.

We all told you so......

As I have stated many times on The Swamp, Senator McCain did a great disservice to our nation and to Governor Palin. His selection of her, for the Vice-Presidential slot, was a very selfish and harmful choice, he made. It showed recklessness and poor judgement on Senator McCain's part, but we know that story, only to well !! Governor Palin could be a qualified candidate, for Vice-President, in the future, but right now, she should return to Alaska and straighten out that mess with the State-Trooper. She should try to be her real self, instead of a put-on self, a caricature of herself !! She hasn't fooled anybody, but her self !! Shame on Senator McCain and the Bush Republicans !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

If the voters send her back to Alaska next Tuesday, she will have to run for re-election as governor in 2010. She will be faced with not only justifying "Troopergate," she will also have to explain why she used taxpayer funds to ferry her family all over the country and why she billed Alaska taxpayers to stay in her own home. Then there is her record on patronage appointments. Being a hockey mom and moose cleaner may not be sufficient for the Alaska voters to return her to office.

She won't run for re-election in 2010.

My predictions:

Stevens wins. Stevens resigns. Palin appoints herself Senator in his place.

Or:

Stevens Loses. 2010 Palin runs againts Murkowski in the Republican Senate Primary.

As one of the much sought after independent "swing" voters in this election, I still can't believe McCain chose Palin as his VP when there are so many far-more-qualified candidates out there. He preaches experience and "Country First" but then chooses someone who is probably less qualified than my wife to be VP, which, to me, doesn't seem like he is putting the needs of our country first. Not to mention it seriously calls into question McCain's decision making ability and who else he might stock his cabinet with.

I was undecided at first, but after being introduced to Gov Palin I have become a firm Obama vote... and I doubt I'm the only one (which seems to be the indication of this poll).

From the beginning when McSame put Palin on the ticket we have all blogged that it was a mistake..Lots of people suggested he send her back to Alaska and replace her with one of the many qualified other choices for VP..Even his own party suggested it. However he has always been a hot head and seems to resent authority so she stayed..When he loses he cannot say the American Public didn't warn him..This is one gamble for him that will not pay off..The right wing nuts should put to bed any ideas of a Palin 2012..She is a loser and her ratings continue to fall..She should open a high end resale shop..That way she can continue to dress like a queen and it would be on her money instead of ours...BYE..

An ass in Germany is a professor in Rome(Traditional German Saying)
IT IS YOUR WRIGHT TO INSULT THE INTELLIGENCE OF YOUR WIFE, IT TAKES TWO TO TANGO! SINCE WHEN IS YOUR WIFE THE UNIVERSAL STANDARD OF COMPETENCE & INTELLIGENCE?
HOW CAN ANY HUMAN BEING BORN FROM A WOMAN BE SO IGNORANT AND SEXIST? HOW CAN PEOPLE BE SO PRETENTIOUS & ARROGANT. WHAT MAKES PEOPLE THINK THAT.
THEY ARE ENTITLED TO DIMINISH A WOMAN LIKE SARAH PALIN WITHOUT CONSEQUENCES, A MOTHER OF FIVE WHO MADE HER WAY THROUGH THE FENCE OF THEIR MACHO & MEDIOCRE PHALLOCRATIC WAY OF THINKING SYSTEM? IT WORKED WITH HILLARY CLINTON! BUT WHAT DO THEY KNOW ABOUT SARAH PALIN? IT IS SO EASY TO SHOW TOUGHNESS ON WOMEN, GET TO IRAK LIKE HER SON! YOU GUYS WANT TO SHOW HOW COMPETENT AND SMART YOU ARE? LET'S TALK ABOUT THE MAN WHO WANTS TO IMPLEMENT SOCIALISM IN AMERICA LIKE HIS COUSIN ODINGA IN KENYA. LET'S TALK ABOUT; ODINGA, BILL AYERS(PRAIRIE FIRE), RASHEED KHALIDI, TONY REZKO, NADHMI AUCHI, JEREMIAH WRIGHT, SAUL ALINSKY, LOUIS FARRAKHAN. THIS COUNTRY IS UNIQUE ON EARTH. ENJOY YOUR FREEDOM.

Sarah Palin was a wonderful pick. I greatly appreciate all the help and support she has given the Obama campaign in turning moderates and even some conservatives away from her party.

Max -- two things. If you want to bring up Rasheed Khalidi, be prepared to defend the almost $450,000 that McCain gave to his group in 1998 when McCain was chairman of the International Republican Institute.

Second -- Sarah Palin is no Hillary Clinton. Period. Not in accomplishments. Not in education. No comparison whatsoever.

Grow up Max. It has absolutely nothing to do with sexism. It has to do with qualifications. There are plenty...I repeat.....plenty of good qualified women in the republican party to choose from. He choose one that would rev the religious base. One other point...a woman would understand your use of the word W(right), and realize how bigoted you are.

The first big decision a presidential candidate has to make is to choose a running mate. John McCain failed at that decision.

The problem that Republicans have is that their party has become too extreme, too radical. I think that Republican voters, for the most part, recognize this and that by selecting McCain as their candidate they were calling for a return to moderation. Yet McCain made the mistake of appealing to the radical right voters by choosing Palin! He shot himself and his chances of winning, in the foot.

Hey Max, not quite sure how my comment was sexist... shall I change the analogy to read "chooses someone who is probably less qualified than my son to be VP, which, to me, doesn't seem like he is putting the needs of our country first." Does that placate you?

Furthermore, I'm not quite sure how my comment translates to my wife being the "UNIVERSAL STANDARD OF COMPETENCE & INTELLIGENCE", but if you say so. I only said that I was undecided prior to Palin, and I have since become an Obama supporter because of McCain's "mavericky" VP pick. It's not sexist though... if McCain had chosen Kay Bailey Hutchinson, Libby Dole or any other qualified candidate I would not have had a problem with it. Or, to put it another way for you, if Gov Palin were a man I would still think McCain's pick seriously calls into question his decision making ability and who else he might stock his cabinet with.

And just for the record, it is ridiculous posts like yours that make more people like me vote for the Dems in this election cycle... if you support the GOP then you would serve them better by just keeping your mouth shut, because you are basically just helping the Dems.

B.L: RIGHT ON!!!! WELL SAID!!!!

Frank,

I want to know who your supplier is, because you are smoking some good stuff!!!

Sure Palin's numbers are down - if the media did nothing but negative stories, yours would be to. The MSM spends days on her warddrobe, but Obama is friends with a former spokeman for the PLO and nothing. By the way, how much were the props used for Obama at Mile High Stadium this summer?

McCain was flatlining until the he picked Palin. She pulled him ahead in the race. If Palin had made 1/2 of the dumb comments that Biden has made, she would be toast by now.

What has sunk the McCain ticket is the perception that Obama would be better on economic issues and guess what has taken over the headlines the past six weeks?

Use common sense here. I can't understand how B.O. is qualified to be President and Palin is not qualified to be V.P. She has more experience than him. The only thing he's got going for him is he talks pretty. These polls are bogus. If you poll 80% Obmama supporters of course your going to get numbers like this.
