TIny Fey was back as Gov. Sarah Palin last night on the Thursday edition of "Saturday Night Live" but the big surprise was the return of former SNL cast member Will Ferrell reprising his take on George W. Bush. While Fey's impersonation of Palin has become a popcult classic, I prefer Ferrell, who plays Bush as a '70s party hound and frat guy who never quite grew up.

I loved this skit! Hilarious!!! They have nailed the personalities of those idiots. Thanks for the big laughs, SNL!

Without attempting to state that the real people are NOT idiots, would it be possible to stop this reliance on Saturday Night Live performances to substitute for the real thing, or at least admit it's never more than what we'd LIKE the real thing to be? While Tina Fey, Will Ferrell and Darrell Hammond are more likeable than Palin, Bush and McCain respectively (perhaps not saying much, but then the bar is pretty low), their performances ARE PERFORMANCES, not the real thing.

Op109....is that you Sarah?
Don't quite getcha.
The double negatives are for sure also confusing me kinda.
Tina, you are in a class by yourself. but Will Ferrell was a nice addition.

Well, you know, they all have to get their licks in now. In just a few weeks, skits about McCain, Palin, Bush, et. al., will be soooo 2008. With the Democrats appearing likely to control both houses of Congress and the White House, SNL will have to hang up the political comedy until 2010 or so, when another Republican contender for president begins to emerge. These so-called comedians have all admitted that they have found nothing even remotely funny about Barack Obama to lampoon – so they won't even try. (And note to SNL: Merely having an actor mimic Obama's speech patterns and physical mannerisms does not qualify as political satire. It is mimicry. And it just isn't funny.)

I guess that's why their numbers are up 50%? You have a point, though. It isn't funny that John McCain thinks so little of his country that he would select an amateur hack to be a heartbeat away in the most trying of times. And political satire probably doesn't describe it, it's more like horror.

Mr. Oliphant, you went to law school, and became a journalist (of sorts), and now, instead of policy and law analysis, you're publicizing the (usual) SNL GOP-bashing?
A sad comedown.
No wonder the latest Pew Poll, which you could report on but won't, shows that the public thinks the media is in the tank for the New Messiah.
