How quickly we forget the last election:

Someone already has Iowa on his mind, or at least his itinerary.

Jindal and family.jpg

Bobby Jindal, the young Republican governor of Louisiana, is making a traditional pilgrimage some 37 months away from the next Iowa caucuses. But really, things are more urgent than they seem: The Republican Party's Straw Polll in Ames is only 32 months away -- as our colleague Andrew Malcolm at The Ticket notes.

Jindal appeared at a fundraiser for the Iowa Family Policy Center at the Sheraton Hotel in West Des Moines. "The 37-year-old Jindal made light of the occasion, of course, joking to some 800 curious listeners that it was way too soon to be making political speeches,'' Malcolm notes, with MSNBC's First Read attributing this suggestion to Jindal: "You might want to consider getting involved in some kind of recovery program.''

"But, of course, that's exactly what he was doing anyway in the form of speaking about family,'' the Ticket adds of a party undergoing its own post-election recovery program. "As a parent," said Jindal, knowing his conservative audience had precisely the same feelings, "I'm acutely aware of the overall coarsening of our culture in many ways."

And he did add this:

"'Whether you voted for him or not," Jindal said of the incoming president, Democrat Barack Obama, "whether you supported the new leaders of Congress or not, they're our president. They're our Congress. They need our prayers. They need our support."

I would suggest that he ditch the divisive tactics of the right and say what he can do for all Americans. Lose the term "liberal" or red and blue states. "Conservatives" have been anything but..........

The GOP race will start early (well, it's already begun) and it will be messy. Palin will fight hard for what she sees as her rightful place as head of the party and its next ticket.

Governor Jindal is the latest model of the Republican Panderer !! He has the Neut Gingrich spiel down pat. Give me your families, you patriots, your Corps and, of course, your moralists !! No more handouts, to the people, no more tax increases, for the rich !! Just some warmed over McCain with a little Palin thrown in for good measure !! I hope the real Republicans get their Party back, instead of shirking their responsibilities and traditions, and ask the snake-oil salesmen to leave the parking lot, led by their head salesman, Neut Gingrich !!
I see, even after their loss in the general election, the real Republicans, haven't even started any self-examinations yet, let alone, chasing the scoundrels and scallywags from there big tent !! Time's a wastin' and the losers, the Roves, the Limbaughs and the Hagees are still calling the shots !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

Heh, called it.

Anyone for Jindal/Palin in 2012?

Bobby and Sarah any day over Obama and Biden-

How is Jindal different than Bush and McCain? He's just younger and has a different complexion. Prove me wrong Bobby. Oh yeah is it fair if we call him by his real birth name which has 45 letters in it? Republics thought it was important to remind us that Obama's middle name is Hussein.

Palin wilted very badly after only a few weeks under intense press scrutiny.

Not since Huey Long has Louisiana spawned a pres. candidate.

Is Bobby the Obama of the Right?

Regardless, will he wilt just like Sarah wilted??

I hope that both he and Governor Steele do not achieve positions of prominence in the GOP. I hope Jindall does not even enter the race. As a Democrat, I'd like to see the GOP stay as a white male only party.

Yes, it is fair. So use it if that's his legal name... hey, even if he legally changed it, go ahead and wear out your fingers typing.

Those days are over.

"Those days are over."

That would be too bad. The last GOP primary featured 10 white guys as candidate for President. I wish it would stay that way. I like the GOP, as the 1950's America party. :(

Well there's a change in the air as people seem to never tire of saying. Anyway, sorry, but the 50s are long past.
.
I can't speak for the movers & shakers of the GOP, but I've got to believe that they'd rather not be the angry White male party. And the fact that they have been courting Hispanics since the 80s, elevated Colin Powell and Connie Rice, nominated a woman for VEEP etc. would seem to bear that out.
.
I predict the regrouping and rebuilding effort will push further in that direction. A real easy prediction, that -- it's just smart politics

Liberals - be afraid, be very afraid.

Jindal will NEVER be the president of the US.Look at his state. The world would turn into New Orleans.NO THANK YOU.Been to his state, not impressed.Met him after katrina-even LESS impressed.Don't worry what Iowa is doing with their flood money.WE have made far more progress in the 6 months since the flood than his people have in over 3 years. Oh wait, that's because IOWANS take care of themselves. He has to wait for the rest of the world to come do ALL his cleanup.
