President Bush landed on another aircraft carrier today, the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum which is permanently moored at a pier on the West Side of Manhattan.
Today's carrier landing by Marine One helicopter made a lot more sense than his last one by combat jet on the USS Abraham Lincoln where the president infamously appeared before the big "Mission Accomplished" banner in a premature victory lap for the Iraq War.
It allowed the president to appear on Veterans Day at the re-dedication of the World War II vintage carrier-museum which was recently overhauled without having his motorcade tie up New York City traffic. An unpopular lame-duck administration has to accomplish its missions where it can.

Isn't that nice? He gets to play "soldier".

Mr. James, your snide reporting of this event is an insult to what this this dedication was really about. You got your digs in and I suppose you thought you were funny, but this event was not about President Bush it was about the ship and the people who served on it and you should be ashamed of yourself to stoop so low.

Janstress - You're right I suppose that President Bush got to play soldier. So will Obama. What's your point?

The point of his article was to relate to Bush's previous landing which also was about the ship and the people who served on it at that point in time. Some of them may not be alive due to the neo-cons insistence on going to war with Iraq under false pretenses. Accept what your lame-duck president did and move on!

We will never get anywhere if we together don't get over this name calling and bitterness towards each others opinions. I only hope that we as a people of this country learn to get along. I am a conservative. I

The "Fighting I, the oldest and the best!" A fitting backdrop for such a ceremony, but I'm not real keen on what's-his-name doing the honors. From a former shipmate.

If he can list off the uses of 1/3 of that equipment he has wrapped around himself, I would be impressed.

Well, Mr. CongressHasLowerApprovalRating, my point is when Dubya played "soldier" several years ago, there was a banner displayed that read "Mission Accomplished". You're a smart person--you connect the dots. As far as I know, Obama hasn't played soldier! Save your criticisms if he ever does.

Sad that this got less play in the press today than Obama's remembrance.

I don't like all the snide remarks about my President. Its very easy to a critic from the sidelines. President Bush a term you far left loonies refuse to use in you daily lives. The President has made some mistakes along the way, but he's got gonads and has kept us from further attacks. I certainly hope the next President fairs as well.
