The two young daughters of President-elect Barack Obama will be moving schools this winter as the family moves from Chicago to Washington, and the Obama family has settled on a tried-and-true setting for Washington's elite:
The private Sidwell Friends School in Washington, D.C.
The Obamas looked at public schools as well, but a spokeswoman for Michelle Obama, Katie McCormick Lelyveld, says the Obamas focused on what's the best fit for 10-year-old Malia and 7-year-old Sasha.
Sidwell Friends is a private Quaker school in Northwest Washington. Chelsea Clinton, daughter of former President Bill Clinton, also attended.
The Obama family also scouted Georgetown Day, which was founded in 1945 and was an early pioneer in racial integration. And the president-elect's family had discussed public school options, according to Washington Mayor Adrian Fenty and Schools Chancellor Michelle Rhee.
Sidwell, a day school situated on 15 acres in Northwest Washington, traces its founding to 1883. The K-12 program has 1,097 students (553 boys and 544 girls) enrolled -- that's about to grow by two girls. The school reports that 39 percent of the student body are "students of color.''
Twenty-two percent of the student body receives almost $5 million of need-based financial assistance, the school notes. Which is understandable, in that tuition this year runs $28,442 for Pre-K to Fourth Grade and $29,442 for Grades 5-12.

Sure send them to Public School so the Secret Service can disrupt the entire school. Oh please! These are the childred of the future President! Of course they need to be in a private school and everyone understands that. Well except you people in the minority of the population.
Oh and guess what? President Obama will be flown in a big huge plane too! Not West Jet!

I knew the Bozos would be out early to cast the garbage. Of course if these brave tin soldiers were the president, they would send their children to public school. Of course they would...horsemanure you can believe in.

Scotty,
I'm not disagreeing with teh Obama's decision, I would want a qulaity education for my child too. However, why won't the Secret Service disrupt a private school? Did the secret service disrupt the public school when Amy Carter went there?

Sure; they can make a few bozos happy and send the girls to DC public schools (would you send your kids to DC public schools??); or they can do what's best for their children. Doing what's best for the kids is the wiser choice.

Amy Carter has written about what a sad life she had, virtually imprisoned and kept from recess and normal social interaction.
Americans need to quit believing in Santa, quit believing we are led by people who are NOT part of an oligarchy.
Only then will we WAKE UP and start supporting unions, start wanting monopoly law enforced, patent law reigned in.

They needed to pick a school that would be easy for them to protect these girls. There are a lot of nuts out there. Their protection is more important than stupid people having a chip on their shoulders.
