Good luck getting a ticket to President-elect Obama's inaugural. The demand for them is extraordinary, with some would-be profiteers asking as much as $40,000 for tickets that won't be available until January.
Reports that some people are trying to gain a big payday by selling tickets congressional offices will be giving away, has drawn the attention of Sen. Dianne Feinstein. The California Democrat plans to submit legislation that would make such opportunism illegal.
An excerot from The Hill newspaper:
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) is drafting legislation that would make it illegal to sell tickets to President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration ceremony.
Tickets for the event are free and will be distributed through the offices of lawmakers, who will then provide them to constituents who request them. The tickets won't be given out until days before the ceremony, but they are already being advertised on websites like eBay and Craigslist for as much as $40,000.
The legislation would charge those caught selling the tickets with a misdemeanor and a "very hefty penalty."
"I have...asked my Judiciary committee staff to prepare legislation to make it a crime to scalp inaugural tickets," said Feinstein. "This inauguration will be the major civic event of our time, and these tickets are supposed to be free for the people. Nobody should have to pay for their tickets"

Democrats run into the eternal economic law of "Supply and Demand."
And as Democrats always do in response, they pass diktats that restrict people's freedom. The diktats never work.
The Democrats are Economic Reality deniers.

So you're saying the Dems are specialists, as opposed to the Republicans who are Universal Reality Deniers?

I love it when the Bush-McCain Republicans try to make heads or tails out of anything, economic. Look at their brilliant record, for the last 8 years and you can only wonder, what shape this nation would be in, had they won !! $40,000 for a free ticket, now that is the Bush-McCain Republicans' idea of earning a living wage !!No wonder they didn't see anything wrong with the Oil Corps gouging the driving public, or the Pharmaceutical's experimenting with poorly researched drugs, on their customers !! It's all about Money and do you know what ?? It is that very illusion that is destroying all things, American, including our democracy !! Who cares, as long as, I get mine !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

Good call Don! Thanks for your post regimechange2012. We need posts like yours to shed insight into what the pug party is all about. You are right, there will be a regime change in 2012, but it will be the pugs loosing their hillbilly voters, and most of the moderate religious voters, when they finally figure out that the pugs have pulled the wool over their eyes for decades.

Fitzy,
The economy was humming right along until Harry and Nancy took over.
For those of you that are economically challenged - picture this - what if that poor single mother on the southside got one of these free inaguration tickets and had a chance to sell it for $40K - would you turn down that opportunity for her to do it?

Sen. Feinstein wishes to ban selling of tickets for money. But she and her Dem colleagues will do some scalping themselves, doling out their inauguration tickets to multi-buck campaign contributors.
Does anyone over the age of 3 really believe that Sen. Feinstein will do otherwise with her ticket allotment?
