The final Pew Research Center poll before the general election indicates that Sen. Barack Obama had a solid lead heading into the last two days before Tuesday's election.
Sen. John McCain has narrowed the spread somewhat as Pew focused on those most likely to vote instead of all registered voters.
Pew summarized its findings thusly:
Barack Obama holds a significant lead over John McCain in the final days of Campaign 2008. The Pew Research Center's final pre-election poll of 2,587 likely voters, conducted Oct. 29-Nov. 1, finds 49% supporting or leaning to Obama, compared with 42% for McCain; minor party candidates draw 2%, and 7% are undecided.
The survey finds indications that turnout may well be significantly higher than in 2004, when voting participation reached its highest point in nearly four decades. The new poll projects increased rates of voting among young people and African Americans, who strongly favor Obama. But it also finds signs of greater likely turnout across the board.
In the campaign's final week, McCain is getting the boost that Republican candidates typically receive when the sample is narrowed from the base of 2,995 registered voters to those most likely to vote. Among all registered voters, Obama leads by 50% to 39%. His lead had been 16 points among registered voters (52% to 36%) in Pew's previous survey, conducted Oct. 23-26.
Pew's final survey indicates that the remaining undecided vote breaks slightly in McCain's favor. When both turnout and the probable decisions of undecided voters are taken into account in Pew's final estimate, Obama holds a 52% to 46% advantage, with 1% each going to Ralph Nader and Bob Barr.

We live in rural Missouri and I was surprised to learn my eighty-five year old mother is voting for Obama. ...........

it's amazing how many comments you prevent from being posted on this blogsite. It seems that if you disagree with your agenda, you are prevented from posting. Why is that? I have counted nearly a dozen that you have sniped over the last month. So much for freedom of expression. This site is a joke. I see that billr hussein and don fitzgerald never seem to have a problem getting their vitriol posted on every other article. This is a site for libs to stroke each other and pat each other on the back. You should change your warning to read that you may be prevented from posting if you make a good point against our lib propaganda.

7% undecided--up from 6%? Was it the 1.80 something gasoline trick they've been pulling ever since they got (DIE)bold enough to steal a presidential race back in 2000? ( Was the 'Gingrich revolution' an earlier trial run for them). We need to get our brooms out and sweep the repugnicans out of local, regional, state and federal races---not just the White House.
