President-elect Barack Obama and Michele Obama are leaving Spiaggia Cafe restaurant after dinner on Saturday, November 8, 2008. ( Chicago Tribune photo by Zbigniew Bzdak)

I saw this photo and was just a little mesmerized by it. It's just more visual evidence that we're about to see something truly new and different in the White House.
The Obamas look like Hollywood celebrities which shouldn't hurt them since we are such a celebrity-obsessed culture. The mind definitely runs to the Kennedys. Or to the Reagans.
All of a sudden we have a new American royalty and it's a black family from the South Side of Chicago. Forgive me if it seems like I'm still trying to wrap my mind around this; I am.
It's said that after President Kennedy stopped wearing hats in public, the men's hat industry died. We got a generation of Democratic politicians who consciously or not, imitated Kennedy's blow-dried hair and mannerisms.
It's going to be interesting to see what style changes Obama inspires, if any. Of course, he'll be more likely to spawn imitators if he succeeds than if he doesn't.

You're "mezmerized"? By a photo of two people walking through a door?! It takes more than that to mesmerize me.
.
"It's more visual evidence that we're about to see something truly new and different."? Huh? What do you see that we're not?
.
You're simply incapable of embarrassment, aren't you Frankie?

Frank,
You are no different than the rest of the media that was "mesmerized" by Obama. At least you aren't feeling a tingle down your leg. Once you are done being mesmerized, how about trying some objective reporting?
Speaking of the Screamer and biased reporting:

9.8 on the Fawn-O-meter.

Ok, it's time for a Reality check.
.
Obama won by virtue of the fact that he's not a Republican. Period. His support is as deep as a sheet of paper. His small core of dazed worshippers are wrong to assume that all of the people who voted for Obama love him with the same unshakable passion that they do.
.
He has taken the reins of a nation in trouble, in a world in trouble. He is undeniably smart and well read. However, he has no executive experience. He has no experience dealing, cajoling or arm twisting, with congress (not even his own party) in spite of the sloganeering claiming otherwise.
.
Internationally he will be sorely tested, by both both those who do and do not wish us harm.
.
Now add this:
Americans accustomed to the quick fix, are likely to become impatient with and worried about a lingering bad economy. Plus who knows what new international crisis is looming; rest assured there is one.
.
Furthermore, his honeymoon with the American press will likely end some time in '09. Other than the writers of The Swamp, the press corps may no longer be compliant. They'll be bored, and looking for headlines; looking for Obama to stumble; digging for money scandals.
.
So not everybody is Obama's teary-eyed worshipping acolyte. Not by a long shot. Enjoy the party while you can, Obamabots. There's sure to be a rough ride ahead for all of us.

Would you pundits cease with the " royalty " business. Wasn't that what the Revolutionary War was all about ?? President-elect Obama is like every other man, any where. Because he won the election doesn't change that !! What it does change is, first, his isolation, second, his suffocation with security and thirdly, his enveloping in " pomp and ceremony " !!! You know, that which distinguishes the commoner from the aristocrat, in America's case, the rich from the poor !!
Hopefully, President-elect Obama will see this absurdity and contradiction to our democratic ways and will try to tone down this fairyland nonsense !! That would be a great stepping off point for his administrations of Change !! Just a thought !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

Oooh. No overcoat in 30 degree weather. Yeah, let's all take that fashion advice. Why don't you try that one out first, Frank?

There will be adulation and imitation on a grand scale.
The reason is simple. The American people want someone they can admire and respect, and be proud of; who is respected throughout the world.
The feeling is much like that in the 60's, when Kennedy was elected. I felt it then, I feel it now.

I think I just threw up a little.

Ha Ha, the jealousy from the right is laughable. All the posts form mj to Donna are green with envy. This is the same group that was "mesmerized" by an empty headed beauty queen from Alaska. The same group that came rushing to her defense after it was revealed she went on a shopping spree with someone else's money. I'm really going to enjoy these next eight years.

Figured he would hit the high road after getting elected-

Ummm, what exactly would I be jealous of? I can dress up and go to dinner anytime I want to. The media, and all of Obama's most ardent supporters, have put him so high up on a pedestal that he really has nowhere to go but down. I'm just waiting to see how long it takes . . . . . .

.
I have to agree with Donna. Jealous of what? Also, maybe you can explain. Bruce Y -- since you seem to understand these things -- exactly what makes a photo of Obama exiting a restaurant "mesmerizing"?
Posted by: MJ | November 9, 2008 8:06 PM
You know, it's not exactly like Obama grew UP on the south side, the son of a bus driver or something. He lives in a moneyed seciton of the south side, with way more money than my suburban family will EVER see. His wife -- who apparently is the Earth Mother, attending any function her ever-so-much-more-than-exceptional offspring will EVER participate in, even though she supposedly WORKS for a living -- has a fabulous job that Obama bought for her. (with earmarks).
So, yes, if he were the janitor's son and rose from the "regular" south side to be president, maybe I'd be mesmerized too. But he was a child of affluence. The media elevated him to where he is. He is upper middle class. So don't tell me he's from the south side of Chicago. Because he's not. And when the world figures out his ego, well, watch out.

Man you Pugs are a pissed off bunch! Practice a little christian love and be-have! It was a short stupid story where the comments are more interesting then the story was. I did see the video of this on the news tonight, and it was more interesting than the still picture was. Did I find it mesmerizing, no. And Inky…..keep posting, you are a *wonderful* flag bearer for the right with your infinite wisdom. MJ and Donna, it must be obvious that you like to take the obvious and state the opposite. Obama has no where to go but UP, with the crappy economy, world opinion, and budget that Bush is handing him!!! For the record, I hope Palin runs in 2012 and picks Inky as her running mate!!!!
Posted by: Xcellentform | November 10, 2008 12:06 AM
I wasn't mesmerized, Frank was.
You and Donna can deny it all you want, but you wanted that to be a picture of Sarah breezing out that door with a smile on her face. Ha Ha.
