Sen. Barack Obama, in an interview with CBS News, says his aunt from Kenya living in the United States without legal residency will have to face the same consequences as any other undocumented immigrant.
CBS anchor Katie Couric asked the Democratic presidential nominee, in an excerpt of the interview aired on the CBS Evening News, "You have an aunt who's been living in this country apparently illegally... Would you support her being deported to Kenya?''
"If she is violating laws, those laws have to be obeyed,'' Obama said. "We're a nation of laws.
"Obviously that doesn't lessen my concern for her,'' he added. "I haven't been able to be in touch with her. But I'm a strong believer you have to obey the law.''
More of Obama's interview with Couric will air on The Early Show this morning and on a special one-hour edition of the CBS Evening News tonight.

Yet another Obama lie/evasion: "I haven't been able to be in touch with (his aunt)."
There's this marvelous invention called the phone, senator. Perhaps you've heard of it. Perhaps some reporter will ponder why the senator claims he can't phone his aunt.
A millionaire who doesn't help his aunt, then throws his aunt "under the bus" when she gets inconvenient, is lacking the basic character to be president.

It should be an interesting interview.
Will Katie Couric ask penetrating questions of the Senator or will she throw him soft balls?
If she is like most of the media we will know nothing more about Barack Obama and his relationships than we did prior to the interview.
The media has failed the American people in this election.

That's still better than McCain throwing his first wife "under the bus" so he could run around with a wealthy heiress. Or apparently trying to throw the 4 members of the Keating 5 "under the bus" to save himself. Or throwing his dignity "under the bus" by running a campaign that is all about demonizing certain groups of Americans instead of dealing with problems with health care, growing unemployment, and unprecedented foreclosure rates.

Dear disgusted:
Obama has a few things on his mind other than calling his aunt And do you propose that he get special treatment for her? If he did, you'd be the first to complain.

Hey Pat!!!!
Do you think Barack would get the same softball questions from Shaun Hannity like Palin did???
Posted by: BobinATL | November 3, 2008 10:45 AM
Of course every politician is fully aware of and responsible for all legal issues with everyone in their extended families, no matter how tenous the relationship.
For example, McCain's son was on the board of a bank that failed earlier this year. That is wholly and completely McCain's fault. I'm sure McCain was on the phone with him multiple times a day, advising him on nevery bad decision that led to the bank failure. I'm sure that McCain openly acknowledges his full responsibilty, he would never throw a family member "under the bus".

It's also entirely coincidental, and not at all intended as an "October Surprise" that a federal official just happened to illegally disclose this info within this time frame. Had it happened earlier, Obama might have had time to deal with it, and also their might be time to track it back to GOP operatives. Obama is the one obeying the law here.

How come someone living here illegally get into public housing?
Is this what Obama means by spreading the wealth?
Is this what my taxes will pay for?
Posted by: Outraged taxpayer | November 3, 2008 11:10 AM
Outraged, your taxes have been given to AIG and Bear Stearns. Bush has already "redistributed" $700 billion to a bunch of folks who wouldn't give you the time of day. And that's not counting all the billions he "redistributed" to his republican pals and their defense firms during the Iraq war. The republicans want your vote and then they want you to look the other way.

A Nation of Laws ~ wow, that's awesome. Would that comment apply, in any way, to ACORN too?

I hope Obama gives his Aunt a Presidential Pardon and grants her a visa to stay in the US. Surely one little old lady deserves a pardon more than Scooter Libby did and for a better reason. It would be a act of compassion rather than a criminal cover-up of the kind Bush created by pardoning Scooter before he spilled the beans.

Why would any reasonable person believe a smear like this? I mean really now. If the justice department knows where she lives, why didn't immigration pick her up and deport her at some point in the last few years, instead of waiting until a few days before the election to leak it to the press.
And why is it that immigration STILL hasn't stopped by to say hello and send her home?

Why yes it would. Who it doesn't apply to is rich heiresses married to Senators who steal prescription drugs from charities to feed their addiction. They are, of course, fully above the law like the Aristocracy should be.

Don't know....you would have to ask ACORN. Or are you trying to say because Obama is black and ACORN helps poor black people register there is some sort of link? Maybe because he acted as their lawyer once a while back there is a link? If you have some sort of proof that Obama runs ACORN please share it with the world.

ACORN is the handy Henchman community organization. Every good democrat should have one at his disposal. They perfom the boots on the ground work for the great Obama, registering fictious voters whether it be the rich members of the Dallas Cowboys Football organization, or the esteemed Looney Tunes characters, along with your standard felons, and folks whose current residence is probably a cemetery.
Just like the MSM WILL NOT investigate it in any way, I can't prove it either. What exactly are you able to prove?
Was born at night. Was not born last night. Komrade, have a nice day.

Django -- but you don't have any response to the posting above from pgw, do you? I'm sure that will be proven false, right? Because it's Republicans involved, correct? The only "true" American political party?? I've copied the post below for you, in case you missed it.
Oh, and by the way -- ANYONE signing up new voters, Democrat, Republican, Green Party, bipartisan, etc., etc., will get phonies who sign their names as "Daffy Duck" or "Mickey Mouse." It's just people on the street playing games with those signing up voters. No big conspiracy there. Please, take the blinders off and see that this happens to every party.

It has not been established that this lady is here illegally. She may still be in appeals or may be able to reopen her case.
And it won't be known, if the laws are followed, because asylum applications and hearings are closed to the public and confidential by law and those who breach that confidentiality are guilty of a felony.
