ROCK HALL, Md. -- Out on the Eastern Shore of Chesapeake Bay, up the windswept Maryland coast where Revolutionary War sea captains are memorialized -- "Lost at sea," reads the remote stone of one -- a Bald eagle rested on the branch of a barren tree today snacking on a silvery fish snatched from the mouth of the Chester River.
There are no elections out this way, no transition, no Cabinet seats to fill, only the insatiable appetites of water birds, both the locals and the migratory, feeding in the clear shallows where river meets bay.
The eagles -- regulars up and down this bay stressed by an overpopulation of the SUV-driving species, and even along the urban runoff known as the Potomac River -- were joined today where the Chester meets the Chesapeake by hundreds of Tundra swans, down from the Arctic chill, feeding here on the Eastern Shore, where it got above 40 degrees for a while this afternoon, cloudless and still. Beautiful.
Let's not let Bush roll back environmental regs which have brought once endangered species like the American bald eagle from the brink of extinction.

Kenny,
Under the "mean" President Bush, how did that eagle survive?
.
I can't wait to see how BO implements his energy policies with the environmental wackos screaming at him.

Terry,
Why not add the history of the American Bald Eagle to your twisted revisionist thinking?
Not "mean," just horribly incompetent -- who rather sell out to corporate interests for short-term considerations than preserve what's beautiful and unspoiled in America. Just one more way he's screwing us while trying to guide our thinking about his legacy. Or make that you and the folks at Ft. Campbell.
How was your Thanksgiving bird? Does Bald Eagle really taste like chicken? Or was that lame duck at your table?

genius, kb's point is that the regulations that helped protect the bald eagle and remove it from the endangered species list are the very regulations that team bush are pressing hard to rewrite and diminish in the eleventh hour.
so much more to destroy, so little time.

Kenny,
.
If Obama is such an environmentalist, then why is Obama a supporter of destroying 24,000 acres of farmland in Illinois which will displace hundreds of families?
.
An somehow that Bald eagle surivived 7 years and 10 months of the Bush presidency, lord it must be a miracle!!!
.
Let's see all the windfarms created in the plains. The trick will be to create the transmission lines to move the electricty to the areas that need it. This is where the enivrionmental loons and NIMBYs wiill go birserk.
