Rep. Rahm Emanuel, Chicago congressman and designated chief of staff for President-elect Barack Obama, turned his roaster-oven settings on Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden last night at a charity roast of Comedy Central's Stephen Colbert.

Emanuel on Biden: "Joe's the one who predicted that President-elect Obama will be tested by a crisis in the first six months of his presidency. What he didn't mention: the crisis will no doubt be over something Joe said."

Emanuel on Obama: "Of course, Stephen and I do have our differences. Stephen believes the messiah is Jesus Christ. In my briefing books, that's Barack Obama. ''

The Colbert roasting with Emanuel and others at the podium, as the Huffington Post reports it with a video clip, was part of a charity for the Spina Bifida Association organized every year by Judy Woodruff and Al Hunt.

FDR's aides were famously said to have a "passion for anonymity".
So I guess there is at least one regard in which Barack differs from FDR.

The Wingnuts are seeing their absolute power being yanked away from them because of their own incompetence and they're throwing a tantrum. After controlling the white house for the last eight years and controlling congress for ten of the last twelve years they've done nothing but prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that conservatism is a failed ideology and now they're panicking.

All of the Republican water-carriers who faithfully parroted every lunacy and vicious Bush/Cheney lie of the last eight years are seeing their Propaganda Factory shut down and put out of business. They can't control the national conversation anymore, so they're all angling to be considered "one of the good ones" in the post-conservative era. These guys will start avoiding Fixed News Channel like the plague the next few years as they seek to rehab their reputations.

This is hilarious!

Stephen Colbert, Nov. 12, 2008:
.
" I don't believe in adding insult to injury. Once I've injured someone I just like to take a moment to enjoy it. But apparently election officials in Omaha Nebraska are going to add an insult to the Republican injury. They're still counting the votes there and there's a damned good chance when they finish tomorrow they'll be giving one more electoral vote to Barack Obama making him the first Democrat to get a Nebraskan electoral vote since Linden Johnson in 1964. And...and to get that vote Johnson had to promise to nuke Kansas. Now if it happens, one Democratic official said this victory would be "like a cherry on top of an already sweet election." Well the Democrats can have their sweet elections. Republicans perfer things bitter and salty."

"Nation, I'm just going to go out on a limb here and say that things are not going well for the Republicans. Two years ago they controlled both the White House and the Congress. Soon they'll be controlling both the Coke machine and the fry station. And then they're asking, how did we fall so fast? Which takes us to tonight's Word...Pity Party."
