The Swamp

by Mark Silva

The view from Sarah Palin's kitchen: She would have been happy to speak out for herself more during the presidential campaign.

President-elect Barack Obama did "a great job'' of speaking for himself, the Republican Party's vice presidential nominee said in an interview with Matt Lauer of NBC's Today Show that ranged from the governor's office in Alaska to the kitchen at home where Palin was whipping up a meal for her family.

"He did a great job of articulating his ability to usher in change,'' said Palin, maintaining that she had no rift with the senior senator from Arizona at the top of the ticket. "Sen. McCain and I had a great relationship'' and it remains "very warm and friendly.''

Lauer went to great lengths in this interview to ferret out why people within the McCain-Palin campaign appear so intent on dragging Palin down, but didn't get much in the way of answers. And that includes the stories about the money spent dressing Palin.

"I'm flabbergasted,'' Palin said, that people think she ordered any fancy clothes for herself. "When I arrived at the Republican National Convention, there were stylists there, there were wardrobes.... What is patently false is that I ever asked anyone at the convention to go out and buy anything for me.''

Why can't she admit that she will just not ever be anything near the uniter Obama was?
I would love to see how many people had watched this before the election:

Who could possibly think this woman should be the leader of the GOP? She would be challenged leading a large Girl scout troop on a tour of Manhattan!

What's WRONG with this interview is Lauer did not CORRECT HER about the 'we were overspent'--the republican attack machine cleverly used outside groups---I doubt they were REALLY overspent. People just aren't buying their garbage like they did.

Palin is running full-out for the 2012 presidency. But ya gotta wonder whether she (SarahSixPack.com) is actually going to be the GOP's standard bearer, or whether she'll just be a footnote in history. Obama (ObamaAgain2012.com) is a shoo-in for re-election, as it’s very likely that he’ll effectively use the power of his incumbency to win a second term. Question is: Will Palin’s star power within the GOP continue all the way into 2016? Isn’t it more likely that many brighter (!) GOP stars will emerge during the next 8 years?

Once more I see the love of the Left.

You betcha, I git it, Sarah! You didn't ask for handouts....You just accepted them. Some maverick whistleblower you turned out to be, gal danggit, you betcha!

Atta girl Sara. Give all those stupid jerks the words that they don't really want to hear.

anyone who doesn't know that Africa isn't a country has no business running for high office. period.

keep in mind, this was reported by Fox--hardly a bastion of the "liberal media."

I fail to understand the vitriolic responses to this article. I for one hope to see more of Sarah Palin in the future. I believe Sen. Obama will make a very good president but see no need to rip into Gov. Palin. Can we please return to a sense of decency in this country?!

The scary part is that Palin was very close to being elected to the President via VP route (about 45% electorate voted for Palin), AFTER seeing her lack of cognitive ability during her public appearances.

Even scarier is that she will run starting in 2010 for 2012, even though her knowledge base will only improve from by 2 years (4th grade to 6th grade), yet she will gather enough public support to be a major Presidential candidate.

Let this go, let's move on and put this behind us.

Clearly, she was not ready for the job. It does not mean she is stupid, I just do not think she has the breadth of knowledge and experience to be an effective national leader. I kinda doubt that will change in 4 years either, a lot of this is built up over decades, from childhood.

I also do not think her positions on just about anything reflect anywhere near a majority of the population, and certainly are not appropriate for where we are today.

On the other hand, the Wardrobegate is absurd. I am quite confident she had nothing to do with any of that. It does not fit her character, as well as these kinds of things are not decided by a candidate. There are huge staffs that handle this kind of stuff. She was almost certainly so busy she could not have possibly had time for it.

I am sure the "diva" comments were spread by some of the more opinionated people on the staff, many of whom are probably closer to being divas themselves. I am sure there are some serious personalities involved in these kinds of campaigns, in both camps.

Certainly it is valid to go after her positions and qualifications if she moves toward a run for 2012. Going after personal aspects, especially the kind of stuff in the media the last week, is low-brow and irrelevant.

The so-called "liberal" media are falling all over themselves to help Sarah rehabilitate herself. When will we see Matt Lauer hanging out in Joe Biden's kitchen??? She's talking a lot about her campaign experiences, but are we hearing about her knowledge of domestic and foreign policy issues?

Since the spotlight fell on Sarah Palin and she was rushed by the national media and it really has taken a toll on her and now she basking in it's glare. Palin's background has revealed her as being ambitious and bizarre and it's hard to believe that she has a chance in 2012 for being president. Palin is lost cause.

"Atta girl Sarah"? You mean words like atta, ya know, ya betcha. You are right about one think Ray. Those are words that intellegent Americans do not want to hear from their President.

Some of you need serious counsellng.

This woman is deeper in your heads than Pazuza was in Linda Blair in "The Exorcist".

Here's your real problem and it's major:

Obama is going to need everyone pulling for him. He faces a perfet storm of crisises as president which are almost unprecedented: a fragile economic system that could rupture with one false move; renewed aggressionby Russia, nuclear proliferation pacts between Putin and Chavez, China's economy on the verge of collapse... . it goes on and on and on.

The ONLY way he succeeds in bringing America back is if everyone pulls for him but it seems as if at least one out of three democrats and a similar number of republicans are fighting a civil war already.

For those of you who think Obama is a lock in 2012, LBJ in 1964 won by the second biggest margin in history but by 1967 the war had gone bad as well as other domestic issues and his popularity bottomed out like the Hindenburg to the point he didn't even seek reelection.

Obama is not bullet proof. He is very inexperienced, has no real track record of governing, and while a clearly gifted orator and campaigner, a president is called to face challenges 1,000 times more thorny than running for president.

He's been the president elect for less than a week and his advisors already made an almost incomprohensible gaff: matter of state discussed between a sitting present and the incumbent--which are private--were leaked to the press.

So, snap out of it and rather than wasting time obsessing about Palin, try to figure out how Obama can learn the game quick enough to avoid being the next Jimmy Carter.

Sarah Palin is Alaska's problem, thankfully.

on the national stage, her time in the public
spotlight is over - and I for one could care less
what she says or thinks.

the less attention paid to Gov. Palin by the
national press, the better.

she'll be just as unfit to lead come 2012, so let
the GOP bring her on and we'll see a second
Obama term.. no worries there.

"What's WRONG with this interview is Lauer did not CORRECT HER about the 'we were overspent'--the republican attack machine cleverly used outside groups---"
Oh puhlease! The repubs had no more outside help than the dems - who also indeed benfited from outside group spending (e.g. ACORN) as well as the national media bias.
Your candidate won, so you can step out of your silly delusions now and help govern.

Kakistocracy.
A kakistocracy was just voted out of office, in resounding fashion. What sort of admin do you think Palin would usher in? The GOP seriously needs to get a clue.

Sarah Palin represents all that is wrong with America. ............

It's hard to believe that out of 301,139,947 Americans, we manage to find Sarah Palin. Hell, what is going on with the Republican party.

What a terrific interview. Palin has been so misrepresented (and I don't mean by the media) that she deserves her chance to show who she is and set the record straight.

The rest of us need to make "unity" more than just an empty word and move beyond knee-jerk negativity. This is not about 2012, it's about who we are right now as a nation.

I highly approve her praise for Obama (thank God he won) and her graciousness towards McCain (deserved or not). Let's try to follow her good example.

I can't wait for John McCain to appear on Leno tonight to see what he has to say.

I feel bad for Sarah and how she's been torn apart, but it sounds like she's taking it better than me.

One more thing, if she truly went on all these shopping sprees you would think some sort of video or photo would exist. The amount of reporters following her every move would have made it impossible for her to shop at these two places unnoticed.

I look forward to watching what's in store for her future. Hopefully she'll get a fair chance in the media....

She has truly reinvented the word twit..The US Government has no place for anyone with her views or her lack of management skills. Her oratory skills and use of the english language are embarrassing and pathetic. She should be impeached in Alaska and her husband should have no access to governmental information with his views on the US of America..There is no way the Nation would ever elect her as President. She should give up her ego illusions and be content to just raise her family...

I think the GOP really needs to get their heads out of the sand. Palin added nothing to the ticket and they already needed to shake up things with Bush's approval ratings at all time lows for any president in history. Obama could have won against any GOP contender with that baggage. The GOP better get behind the country and people and stop being weak. Use to be GOP was better for business and the economy. That has not happened since Reagan.

I would like for Sarah to run in 12, 16, 20, 24, etc.... Why? She is so unelectable. I see Sarah getting her own TV show once Alaska gives her the boot. But President or any other office, I don't think so.

Ok... Sarah Palin in 2008 was a poor choice by the RNC, I dont blame McCain. I think most people will now agree on this.

I have nothing against Sarah Palin but she was just not ready to be on the world stage or to be a VP candidate, few are...

She has shown, however, she can be an effective campaigner and public speaker not only during her time on the ticket but also by winning the Governor of Alaska, which is no small accomplishment..

What she lacked in world view and politcal street smarts she made up for with pure moxie

Knowing what she knows now, or more to the point, knowing what she didnt know is something she can prepare for and learn from.

For better or worse I am sure you will see a far more polished Candidate in 2012. Now her only concern is if the RNC will have her back...

Geraldine Ferraro wasn't really able to go on to anything bigger after her run as VP candidate run.. We will see if Sarah Palin can..

I don't think Sarah Palin is going away. I think this experience will make her more determined and eventually the people of Alaska will send her to DC to a seat in the House or Senate. I'd almost bet on it.

Is this more or less rediculous than the masiah-elect thinking that he has been to "57 or 58 of the states, not counting Alaska and Hawaii" or Joe B saying "jobs" is a 3 letter word?
