The Swamp

by Mark Silva

Sarah Palin, stumping in Lakewood, Ohio, this morning, introduced her husband, Todd - "the First Dude,'' the governor of Alaska called him - a "blue-collar'' commercial fisherman and oil-field worker, Steelworkers Union member and champion snowmobile racer.

"He knows a little something about racing and how to win,'' Palin said this morning, appearing in a bellwether state that has voted the way the United States has in most modern elections - and which has been a necessary part of every Republican's winning presidential formula.

In Ohio, Palin launched a full-throated assault on Obama's tax plans -- "socialism'' -- and a pitch for her energy development.

"We'll drill, baby, drill, and mine, baby, mine,'' she said. "You betcha, we will.''

She drew boos from the audience for her talk of Democratic rival Barack Obama's tax-talk. And she revived that Obama primary talk about "the bitterness'' of blue-collar voters -- noting that he had said that in San Francisco, and recently told a San Francisco newspaper about his reticence on coal mining. "Something about San Francisco'' with this candidate, said Palin, without filling in her suggestion.

"Sen. Obama has an ideological commitment to higher taxes. It's like he just can't help himself,'' she said. "It's ideological with him....

"It is not mean-spirited, it is not negative campaigning, to call someone out for their record.. .and we're going to do so. ... Thank the Lord, more and more light is being shown on his plans,'' Palin said of Obama. "He voted 94 times for higher taxes... Now he is committed to $1 trillion in new spending.

"This whole tax plan of his, it's so phony that it's already starting to unravel,'' she said. "It seems like every day we're hearing a new definition of what middle class is.'' It started at $250,000 a year in earnings, she said - the level at which taxes will be increased - then dropped to $200,000 and finally "those making $125,000 a year and under... You know how many small businesses fit into that category that are going to be slammed with a tax increase...

"He calls it spreading the wealth... Joe Biden calls paying higher taxes patriotic,'' retelling the tale of the Ohio plumber who has become a talisman of the McCain-Palin campaign in the final weeks. "Good old Joe the Plumber succeeded where the rest of us have failed... because Joe the Plumber just asked a straightforward question... and of course, Obama had to, unscripted, be candid finally and let him know (about "spreading the wealth'' with tax policy) "Joe the Plumber said, to him, it sounded like socialism, and now is not the time to experiment with socialism.

Sure, the last thing you would want to see is to have a politician take over and socialize income from the oil and gas industry, distributing it equally amongst its people like being done in Alaska,,,, oh wait, that's okay,,, um because it's always been a Republican state,,, and socialization of revenues is okay, and, and, and,,,,,

You betcha! and slowly the polls are coming in showing Palin to be hurting McBush and the campaign. This will be her last 15 minutes of fame. Soon we will be asking......."what ever happened to Sarah?"

When Bible Spice introduced the "First Dude," did she happen to mention that he's a Secessionist? Did she mention that he was a card carrying member of the Alaska Independence Party, whose founder said I don't give a damn about the United States or its organizations? Did she mention that in 2006, while Governor, she addressed the group and told them to "keep up the good work?" I didn't think so!

I could just as easily have charged Governor Palin with the fascist, fascist, fascist label and it would be more accurate, than her phony charge against Senator Obama !! Her banning, " burning ", of books in our libraries, is a well known fascist practice. Her abuse of power is another favorite of the fascist, as is the indoctrinating of our young, creationism, at the expense of teaching true science in our classrooms !! These are just of few of her actions that could allow some to charge her with the semblance of a fascist, but this is America and we tolerate different points of views!! Unfortunately, that must be one of American's basic tenets, that she disagrees with, tolerance, towards different points of view. I don't think I want a Vice-Presidential candidate that close to our Presidency, especially one who favors, what might be called, fascist beliefs !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

This woman is despicable with her inuendos and lies. Invoking San Francisco over and over implies her true racist and bigoted beliefs and using this city as an example of whats not a true American city and also implying homosexual inuendo adds to the fear and smear of her and McShames campaign. Its disgraceful and discusting! That should be their campaign motto! ANyone, and I mean ANYONE who votes for McCain(the oldest person to run for President) had better think twice at who might be sitting in that seat in the White House if McShame dies while in office. THINK ABOUT IT PEOPLE!!

This woman is the phony...I cannot beleive the " first dude " is even allowed inside much less on the stage...He wants to seccede...How patriotic are they??We do not need their kinds of beliefs...We need for them to go home and get out of our face..Perhaps Alaska like her type bullying people around but we don't down here in the lower 48...She is a total embarrassment...

We dont think much of that woman Palin. We thinks Obama is gonna be President and McCain is going home. .Thats what we think .................

Strange---Her husband is a union man and I thought all the major unions have endorsed Obama. Of course, "the first dude" hasn't worked in months. Does he even still have a job?
As for Sarah, the more she speaks, the better it is for Obama and the worse for McCain. If McCain had any sense, he'd put a muzzle on her.

Doesn't Caribou Barbie realize that the Steelworkers Union have told her NOT to use their organization's name in her campaigning???

Once Pennsylvania and Virginia come in for Barack, Palin can go back to Alaska and face the wrath of her constituents!!

Sarah Palin the socialist Governor from Alaska has absolutely no room to talk. She takes money from big oil companies and distributes it to the people of her state, and if that’s not socialism in it’s purest form, I don’t know what is. Republics have been beating this dead horse for years, they consider Social Security, Medicare, Medicade, and any other form taxes going to social services, as being socialism, they always have. Social Security is one of the few government programs that has worked for citizens since it’s inception during the Roosevelt administration. With the retirement of baby-boomers soon to be an issue, adjustments to Social Security will be necessary, but the system does work and it can be fixed. 401k’s, and other stock based retirement programs have lost a considerable amount of their value, just in the past few months. If you could imagine what would have happened to peoples retirement funds if the Bush administration was allowed to put Social Security in the stock market when he wanted to, people would have lost everything. The republics would have us go back to the Roman Empire, where they lived under pure capitalism, if you were lucky enough to be born into money you could do almost anything you wanted, but if you weren’t, you were a slave. The form of government we have always lived under has been a mixture of both capitalism and socialism, and it’s been working for the past 230 years or so, and I don’t see a need to change it.

Sarah Palin has my support.

I still have to vote and this registered Florida Democrat is voting straight Republican this election.

I work hard and pay taxes. Don't want Obama to give my hard-earned money to lazy bums who are waiting for government hand outs.

"San Francisco"
"Nancy Pelosi"
"Barney Frank"

Gee, you don't think the GOP is homophobic do you? Or perhaps playing on homophobia?

Oh, and by the way, they might also point out once again that Obama is, you know, Black!

Be afraid of the homo, be afraid of the black man.

That's all the GOP has.

I hope this country is better than that.

Alaskan Government programs to distribute the profits earned from selling the Alaskan oil , owned by Alaskan people- to Alaskan people is not socialisistic-

The government taking money I have earned, through my efforts and that I own, and giving it to someone else in order to make things "fair", or to give the messiah a feel good campaign message, is socialistic on its face value...

It is easy to be "fair" with other peoples money...

This is not a difficult concept to understand- and does not require soaring, messianic rhetoric to communicate..

The form of government we have always lived under has been a mixture of both capitalism and socialism, and it’s been working for the past 230 years or so, and I don’t see a need to change it.

So - this whole "Change we can believe in" message is no longer what we need?

If Obama is not changing anything-then why would anyone votefor him?

I still have to vote and this registered Florida Democrat is voting straight Republican this election.
-
I have been a hen all my life and I'm voting for Colonel Sanders this year.
-
I am a deer and all my relatives are deers, and we're joining the NRA.

I am a pig, and this year I'm going to fly. You betcha!

An idealess idealogue.

But guess who gets to pick Ted Stevens' replacement in the Senate when the time comes?

I work hard and pay taxes. Don't want Obama to give my hard-earned money to lazy bums who are waiting for government hand outs.

What lazy bums are you talking about? This is the problem with the McBush campaign calling this socialist, it leads the dimwitted to believe this is some sort of welfare. Learn the facts. If you are talking about EITC you need to know the truth. My guess is...you don't really know what you're talking about anyway....just some BS the weakminded people gravitate to.

heartburn,
What is it about the economy during the last 8 years that you like so much?? Redistributing wealth to the top earners has failed once again. Its time for change. Time to redistribute to the middle class. Get it?

Obamas political ideologies and policies punish success and reward failure.

Since when are people "entitled" to other peoples hard earned money?

That ideology has to be the most dangerous out of Obama's socialist government control nanny state ideologies.

Vote McCain/Palin tomorrow go early.

The government taking money I have earned, through my efforts and that I own, and giving it to someone else in order to make things "fair", or to give the messiah a feel good campaign message, is socialistic on its face value...

Posted by: heartburn | November 3, 2008 11:06 AM

Once again Heartburn is way out of touch with his own government and its tax policies. Um, Heartburn, the money the government takes from you and puts into the Social Security program goes to other people you big dote! That is a socialistic program. So I'm guessing you don't want to collect your SS??

"I work hard and pay taxes. Don't want Obama to give my hard-earned money to lazy bums who are waiting for government hand outs.

Posted by: Go Sarah | November 3, 2008 11:02 AM"

Bill is right. Palin is not out to help people who work hard for their money: she's out to help people who's money works hard for them. The Bush tax-cuts that McCain is (flip-floppingly) promising to keep help people who's wealth generates their income for them.

If you are an employee, or even the employer of only a few people, then the Republicans are your enemies, not your allies. Rebuilding the nation's infrastructure will help the working middle-class and the working poor, insofar as there is any distinction between the two anymore.

Posted by: heartburn | November 3, 2008 11:06 AM

I didn't realize you were a Member of the Alaskan Independence Party.
It's not Alaskan Oil, or Alaskan Lands. It is American oil from federal lands.

Hey heartburn, your bush government is giving your hard earned money to the richest people in this country. Way to go....

And I condemn Sarah Palin's wackoism. Also her lying, hypocrisy, inability to read (things like ethics reports), smear tactics, latent fascism....

I work hard and pay taxes. Don't want Obama to give my hard-earned money to lazy bums who are waiting for government hand outs.

Posted by: Go Sarah | November 3, 2008 11:02 AM

You mean lazy bums like a single mom who works full time at Walmart and still makes less than the poverty level?

How abouyt those lazy bums who have permannt disabilities?

How about the over 700,000 lazy bums who lost thier jobs so far this year through no fault of their own?

Do you mean the lazy 70 year olds living off Social Security?

More elitist nonsense from the angry right.

Gov. Palin is against aiding the poor, but thinks the taxpayers of Alaska should pay a per diem for her to stay in her own home, and that the State should pick up her families personal travel expenses. She's all for socializing her expenses.

heartburn,

Posted by: justaskin | November 3, 2008 11:25 AM

Where have I said I like the way the economy is going?

Tax policy- and the capitalistic system is not the problem...out of control spending, unfunded entitlement programs are economy killing problems created by both parties... feel good "spread the wealth" entitlements like Universal health care, and the tax cut to 95% of tax payers fake out will only push this economy futher into recsession..

Change is coming allright- hang onto your wallets, because this change is going to be expensive..

Hey heartburn, your bush government is giving your hard earned money to the richest people in this country. Way to go....

Posted by: Liberal and Proud | November 3, 2008 11:34 AM

I am not any where near the richest people in the country as far as income- and my taxes were lowered with the Bush tax cuts,,, millions of jobs were created thanks to tax cuts... investment increased thanks to tax cuts..

What do you think will happen when you add more tax expense to the bottom line of all of the nasty rich people...will they hire MORE people? Will they invest MORE in this country? OR will they not spend, hire or invest as much??

But your right- lets go ahead and tax some more productivity out of this economy just as it is heading into a recession- this way, we can give that 40% group of people who pay no taxes a check... not thats a tax policy that could only be OK with a "liberal and Proud" person...way to think things through.!

BTW- Bush is not running for president..

I'd love to see Sarah sit for an interview in which she shares her views of socialism, and explains how Obama fits into the socialist camp.

I'll be watching for her on The News Hour with Jim Leherer.

Go Sarah -- the "redistribution" is to make sure that the tax CUTS goes to those that need it the most -- the middle class and lower. It's not taking someone else's money and giving them a check. It's taxing the most wealthy fairly -- because they haven't been for the last 8 years -- to make sure that the other 95 percent of the country can pay less in taxes. Not getting a "handout" -- but PAYING LESS in taxes. If you're against this, I'm assuming you're in the top earners category, so yea for you.

Posted by: heartburn | November 3, 2008 11:58 AM

heartburn, if you really believe that healtcare for everyone is a bad idea, I'm sure a great patriot like you is willing to do you're part. I'm sure you're willing to pledge never to see a doctor or use any healthcare resources. I'm sure you're willing to take that same pledge for you children as well, right? Show us how dedicated you are heartburn, show ust that you really believe going without healthcare is no big deal. Show us that YOU put "Country First". Make the same sacrifice for the nation that you demand from others. No healthcare, not for you, or your children.

feel good "spread the wealth" entitlements like Universal health care,
Posted by: heartburn | November 3, 2008 11:58 AM

Yes.... those "feel good" cutesy policies to help Americans live longer and in good health. Why should every American deserve this....... or education either? One more of those "socialist" ideas. Take care of those taskmasters so they can throw a few crumbs to us. After all, they may pick up and move to.....Ireland because of the low taxes. Where there really isn't any infrastructure to handle their business, or consumers there so they can pay more to ship back to the US. Or maybe they can move to Nigeria......that is a hot spot I'm sure all CEOs would love to relocate to. I'm sure those sheep herders will have all sorts of bling to spend on their goods. Maybe they'll just barter with sheep.

What "lazy bums" you ask? 40% of Americans do not pay income tax, those that do will continue to pay a higher share of their income to make up this difference under Obama's plan, someone has too. His smokescreen with the 250k threshold is not believable, except to those drinking his Kool aid! Either candidate is going to have challenges unlike their predecessor, but Obama has been less than truthful with his proposals which through taking increasingly disproportionate shares of income from middle class and upper middle class taxpayers who already pay the majority of taxes certainly trends towards socialism. If he wins, I will support him because it is every American's duty to respect the office, but I hope McCain wins!

The only way the socialist/communist/anit-American/wingnut Obama is going to win is through VOTER FRAUD - which at this very moment is being heavily investigated. Oh, and how about the foreigners who have come here to work on Obama's campaign, how about "Daffy Duck" registered to vote. I hope we see him and his entourage doing serious time in the slammer, and then shipped to a country more to their liking! Leave my country alone.

I almost feel sorry for Palin in the same way I almost feel sorry for those little kids whose parents make them stand in front of abortion clinics spewing Bible verses. With Palin, as with the kids, it's obvious that she has no idea what she's spewing about, she's just parroting phrases and sound bites which have been drilled into her head. And goshdarnit if she just doesn't sound so sincere doing it, you betcha!

Posted by: Liz | November 3, 2008 12:09 PM

How 'bout this Liz- all contrived outrage aside..

Not only will I need and use heathcare, my dependents will need and use health care as well..

And get this- I intend on paying for my health care, or health care insurance with money I earn!

I know that whole "personal responsibilty " thing is a really scary thought in this big adult world we live in- but the fact is, there is nothing in our constitution that even allows for the government to confiscate a citizens earnings in order to provide universal Health care and personal nose wiping to every citizen..let alone supports the premise that the fed "ought" to be the provider of health care to anyone that needs it.

Yes.... those "feel good" cutesy policies to help Americans live longer and in good health. Why should every American deserve this....... or education either?

Posted by: bill "Hussein" r. | November 3, 2008 12:14 PM

The only argument - big government, hand wringing, nanny staters have is essentially; "I Need it, so therefore the government should provide it" argument..

No smoking, drinking, or eating high cholesterol foods will radically change lifespans for all groups of people-possibly more than the availability of inexpensive health care. Would you be ok with mandatory bans on these behaviours?

Requiring me- to pay for people who do not have health care, is no different if the rationale is that I am responsible for the health of every american citizen...

Nick Says:

Obamas political ideologies and policies punish success and reward failure.

Since when are people "entitled" to other peoples hard earned money?

That ideology has to be the most dangerous out of Obama's socialist government control nanny state ideologies.

------------------------------------

Most people who earn $ 250 thousand or more a year do so on the backs of people who earn far less than that. Top corporate brass are earning in the neighborhood of 300 to 400 times what the average wage earner does for their companies.

Do they work hard? I'm sure they do, but they would be nothing without their employees. Of course that's why they ship those jobs overseas, because we "want too much" and they can get other workers to work for a fraction of what American workers need to work for to be able to afford a decent home, food, and a halfway decent life.

So, of course the super rich should be paying more in taxes. It helps support the infrastructure that makes them rich.

HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!

OMG The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

A vote for liberals is a vote for the end of the world!!! AAAAHHHHH! (running, screaming, arms waving)

If Obama wins, does it means God hates Republicans?

Let all revolt against Illinois' crooked democratic polictians like Obama, Daley, Stroger, Gutierrez and Blogovich and their higher taxes. Everyone vote straight republican tomorrow. It would priceless to see them lose Illinois. Let's show them that we're sick of their high taxes...

After tomorrow, Palin the Fascist will sink into much-deserved obscurity.

What "lazy bums" you ask? 40% of Americans do not pay income tax,
Posted by: S Hammer | November 3, 2008 12:16 PM

Do you mean the people who aren't paid enough to pay income tax? Maybe you would like to tell those "lazy bums" that even though they work hard and don't earn enough to pay income tax, you have decided to give the tax breaks to the wealthy even though those same people do pay state tax, sales tax, sin taxes. Are they the "lazy bums" you are referring to?

Requiring me- to pay for people who do not have health care, is no different if the rationale is that I am responsible for the health of every american citizen...

Then I guess you also believe that all children should be home schooled. After all, why should a family who has no children pay for education?

This election has taught me 1 major thing - We do need more $$$ for education. People are listening to smears, lies, & inuendos without ever trying totry to learn the facts. Do you know 23% of Texans believe Obama is a Muslim?? & if he is so what? Are all Muslims terrorists? NO. This campaign has brought out the worst in America - to me McCain?Palin have brought the bigots are out in full force & it scares me alot. Why can.t we be tolerant of others? Why not stick to facts? John McCain ran around with smarmy people but Obama hasn't stooped to his level. The world is looking at us - shame on us for what is spewing out, especially from Sarah Palin's mouth. She spreads half truths & in your hearts you know it! Obama is NOT going to tax everyone - did the middle class suffer with Bill Clinton??? Did we have a huge deficit with Bill Clinton??? Do you want this war to continue until victory & who decides what victory is??? We left Vietnam before victory & look at the country now - hmmm, seems to have survived very nicely without us.

Then I guess you also believe that all children should be home schooled. After all, why should a family who has no children pay for education?

Posted by: bill "Hussein" r. | November 3, 2008 12:56 PM

You could argue that availability of a good public school system adds value to everyones property values- which so everyone does benefit if not directly.
^^^
More interestingly, though, I think your argument is a better support for school vouchers and injecting the quality improvement potential of a market system into our school funding "system" -

^^^

Home schooling couldn't make things worse- what has the public ed. system really added to our society?

We have created a generation of adults that have been taught; that the governemnt owes them something, morality is relative to how you "feel" about something, rich people are evil, and they are never personally accountable for bad decision making.

Now- everyone is a victim- " I was tricked into that 600K mortgage when I earn 30K/year."

" I can't afford my own health care coverage"

Enter Obama- the ultimate enabler..provider of everything to everyone, - "Change you can believe in" perfect match for generation slacker..

We get what we deserve..

Heartburn...Lets not stop with education...why should a person with no car pay for roads? why should a family pay for National Parks they don't visit? Why should those who oppose the war in Iraq pay for it?

To the Republican Party: If McCain is not elected, point your fingers and voice your blame on George W. Bush. He messed-up the Republican changes to win anything in this election. And people are sick are of this party using the same bs, fear, and outdated methods to win elections. If this party is going to have a future, they must/need to make an effort accept and get people of color, women, pro-choice, college students, and gays to join the party. If not, Democrats, Green Party, and Independents will.

I seriously doubt Ms. Palin could have defined "Socialism" when she first started tossing the phrase at Mr. Obama.

I'm guessing her handlers have given her a canned response for the question just in case the Lib'ral Media wants to play "gotcha" and find out whether she understands her main line on the stump (oh, you know that "gotcha" journalism the lib'ral media plays... always asking those questions and all)...

But seeing from the Kouric interview and those following how truly intellectually incurious this woman must be to not have answers to some extremely basic questions for a natioinal figure, I'm willing to bet 9to1 that Ms. Palin's first inquisition into what "Socialism" is took place within the last month... and only due to political expediency, not intellectual curiosity.

You could argue that availability of a good public school system adds value to everyones property values- which so everyone does benefit if not directly.
Posted by: heartburn | November 3, 2008 1:12 PM

One could make the same argument that healthy workers would produce more. I also believe you kid yourself about the wealthy. I can tell you they bought that 4 million dollar home when they only make 400K a year. Unless you talk of only the super rich, wealthy live up to their own level with their Mercedes, Country club, maids, etc.

How sad is it that our VP candidate is so lacking in political knowledge that she doesn't even know what socialism is? You'd think with her going to 6 different colleges that at least one of them would have offered a decent education. God help us all if we get the 2 dumbest candidates in history. At least W had Cheney/Satan. There was one (evil) brain at work there.

Do you want this war to continue until victory & who decides what victory is??? We left Vietnam before victory & look at the country now - hmmm, seems to have survived very nicely without us.

Posted by: Betty48 | November 3, 2008 1:01 PM

Betty48-Your right! We left vietnam without victory...don't worry about the fact that in that precipitous, politically motivated surrender it only took 30 years and the mass murder or a few million cambodians and vietnamese people to get them to that "survived nicely " status giving you that warm fuzzy feelling on war ending strategies...

.
I don't know how to tell you this, but you haven't a clue regarding what you have written. This country has not "always" been a mixture of socialism and capitalism; at least to those who realize that history didn't start 25 years ago. The largest part of the welfare-state components of the federal government have come into existence within the last 75 years.
.
You don't know what socialism is then, because taking money from oil companies and distributing it to the people is not socialism in its purest form. In the first place, taking possession of the oil companies' entire operations and distributing all the profits would have been the purest form of socialism. (I'll bet you didn't think of that.) In the second place, they are not "taking" money from oil companies. The oil companies are willingly paying the money for the privilege of leasing oil fields. Thus, it is not a system of taxation and redistribution. The oil companies are happy because they get the profits from the oil and gas, and get to write off the cost of the oil leases on their corporate taxes. The money distributed to Alaska's citizens comes from an independent fund, established under Alaska's constitution, which collects the money from oil leases. It is, therefore, more like a capitalistic operation run on behalf of the citizens than anything that resembles any known model of socialism.
.
You are also wrong about Social Security. Once the Baby-Boomers hit full stride in retiring, the Social Security System is either going to break the federal government, go bust, or do both. Owing to the vast incompetence and mismanagement of the federal government, and the structural defects built into the system, there is no way to keep the system properly funded without massive infusions of cash (that we don't have) and substantial amendments to the system. In its current form, if left alone, the Social Security system will generate many trillions of dollars in debt that we cannot pay. It is simply unsustainable. Unfortunately, the fashionable thing to do for the Democrats in Congress is simply to ignore the entire problem until it swallows us whole; that, and criticize anyone who tries to fix it. In the meantime, the Democrat created welfare and redistribution programs have been eating more and more of the budget - to such a degree that the budget for the Department of Health and Human Services has actually eclipsed that of the Department of Defense. None of this is sustainable at the rate we are going, and no one wants to even try to fix it. So, yes, in a couple short decades - if not sooner - we will all be praising the Democratic Party for having run this country into the ground.

Heartburn -- you are among the lucky that can afford health care. There are millions of people here in the greatest country on Earth who cannot. This is not through any fault of their own. Many, many jobs do not provide health care. Or sick leave days. Or the premiums are so extreme that you have to choose between having health care and living in your car. "Universal health care" has worked for many countries. Citizens are not required to pay premiums, deductibles, etc. They need care; they go get it. Seriously -- why would you be against everyone having the same opportunities to make sure they and their families are healthy?

"Obamas political ideologies and policies punish success and reward failure. "

Voting for John McCain is rewarding the failure of GOP trickle-down economics. You want to reward success? Vote for the candidate who's party was in the White House the last time we had a budget surplus. Vote for the guy who's economic adviser is Warren Buffet. Vote for Barack Obama.

Get ready to sign union authorization cards. Under EFCA, private-ballot elections on whether or not to unionize will soon be but a memory. If you don't have a union now, you soon will!

I thought Joe the Plumber was the First Dude the way they've been displaying him on stage.

Heartburn...Lets not stop with education...why should a person with no car pay for roads? why should a family pay for National Parks they don't visit? Why should those who oppose the war in Iraq pay for it?

Posted by: bill "Hussein" r. | November 3, 2008 1:18 PM

Ironically- only the Iraq war part of your example has any support with clear direction in the constitution-and your examples prove that you are missing the point -

But ... here is a logic path that could support federal support and funding of roads..
Roads = infrastructure= areas where economic growth can be supported= companies investing capital to build places where people work= jobs..( jobs are good!)

Lets try this with Obama's No Coal message?

No Coal Plants= No More material that powers half of this countries electric power= less infrastructure= less capital investment to build places where people work= less jobs= less hiring while at the same time-significantly inflating the price of energy.

OR a simple example..

Obama taxes people that hire people, now they have less money to hire people...

It works both ways- but the common thing here is that more government getting in the way of our CAPITALISTIC system = dumbing down a system that has worked better than anywhere else in the world...

Why do you think that allowing the fed to manage and fund health care will be an improvement?

And why do you give this Obama guy so much credibilty to make sweeping changes to an economic system that, while imperfect, is an incredibly successful thing?

They need care; they go get it. Seriously -- why would you be against everyone having the same opportunities to make sure they and their families are healthy?

Opportunity is there- driving costs ( tort reform?) out of the system is a much better long term ( teach people to fish) solution..than just buying health care coverage for them.

Just for fun- and I am really not trying to be confrontational here...

What % of the folks that do not have health care, given the choice would buy a plasma tv's or take a vacation before paying for health care?

I bet the number is much higher than many would admit-

Are you serious???? Please don't exalt form over substance. People in those countries pay through the nose in taxes for their health care systems. They know - like many in this country apparently do not - that there is no such thing as a free lunch.

Lets try this with Obama's No Coal message?

No Coal Plants= No More material that powers half of this countries
Posted by: heartburn | November 3, 2008 1:44 PM

Lets start with this. First off it is not a No coal message. Like the nuclear power, it is a clean coal or safe nuclear power message. Unclean coal=unhealthy Americans and enviroment. McBush likes to sight France and a few other countries use nuclear. These countries are about the size of Jersey. To do the same here we would need a great deal more plants=much more nuclear waste=increased chances of accidents.
your economic example is just a difference in beliefs. What if middle class Americans had more money to spend=confident consumers who buy more goods=business owners make more profit.
Last is the dumbing down of America. Have all Americans come to the belief that things can not be improved when it comes to the government? Many companies that were on the brink of bankruptcy have been saved by better CEOs. Why have we given up on that idea?

The attached includes the quote in Obama's words that clearly indicate that he has no problem with taxing our most plentiful source of energy to the point of it being non viable- "clean" has a descriptive leaves a lot of room for definition...

"So, if somebody wants to build a coal plant, they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them."
Barack Obama

Not sure where anyone gets the notion that Obama has any economical common sense when he would let ideology and unproven science ( man made global warming) to carry such weight in his decision making process...

You name it-Energy, education, health care, from a pure fiscally responsible point of view Obama is a train wreck- McCain may not be far behind- but I sure like my chances with a guy that is not being motivated to the CHANGE message from such an egotistical angle...

The socialism charge here for Obama is purely a semantics dilemna-and apparently something that doesn't worry you or his other supporters the ends are justifying the means.

Heartburn.....McBush has the very same plan on the cap and trade in respect to coal. Obama has an aim to reduce 80% of emissions by 2050. McBushs plan is exactly the same except he aims at a 66% reduction. If you cut through the smoke and rhetoric, you will find the 2 plans identical. So certainly if Obama is for bankrupting coal....so is McBush. Check both plans you'll see.

They pay less through the nose than we do.. No country spends more per capita on heakth care than the US. Nobody.

Yet we get only the 37th best healthcare.

We rank 41st from the top in infant mortality.

We're 42nd in life expectancy.

We pay through the nose to get inferior healthcare to most every other industrialized country on earth. That's not form over substance, those are the hard facts.

This from McBush in his May 12th speech:
And the same approach that brought a decline in sulfur dioxide emissions can have an equally dramatic and permanent effect on carbon emissions. Instantly, automakers, coal companies, power plants, and every other enterprise in America would have an incentive to reduce carbon emissions, because when they go under those limits they can sell the balance of permitted emissions for cash. As never before, the market would reward any person or company that seeks to invent, improve, or acquire alternatives to carbon-based energy. . . A cap-and-trade policy will send a signal that will be heard and welcomed all across the American economy. Those who want clean coal technology, more wind and solar, nuclear power, biomass and bio-fuels will have their opportunity through a new market that rewards those and other innovations in clean energy.

And the Republic Party has has an ideological commitment to not raising taxes and not cutting government spending, leaving the country in debt for over $10 trillion dollars.

Why can't the Republic Party live within its means?

This is my reply to Heartburn:

During the eight years of the Clinton administration, when rich people paid the same tax rates proposed by Senator Obama, the private sector added 15.8 million jobs. By contrast, in the seven years and six months of the Bush administration, when rich people paid the Bush-McCain tax rates, the private sector has added just 3.5 million jobs. And, it is losing jobs at the rate of almost 100,000 a month as President Bush prepares for retirement.

Out of Our Fears, Out of Our Hopes

Tomorrow, Election Day
we are given anew, a chance to decide
to choose our leaders, an opportunity to give voice
to our aspirations, our dreams, our wishes for our land
We can choose, to vote out of our fears, or
to vote out of our hopes.
I choose hope, over my fears
my dreams, over my doubts
my love, over my hate
my similarities, not my differences
my longing for a better world,
not walls around my home

I am voting for Barack Obama

November 3, 2008

If the promises that Obama made ,fail to be kept. And the economy turns for the worse. And it turns out we should have elected McCain. Then the Democrats and the African American community will be set back for years. And guess who will be waiting in four years. Sarah Palin.!!

Tomorrow, The First Step Toward the Last Election Day
they are taking, alas, our chance to decide
to choose whether to unionize, an opportunity to give voice without fear of union intimidation, our dreams for working together whether than in opposition, our wishes for a democratic workplace.
We can't choose to have a secret vote "no" to a union if they get enough to sign; only those who would vote "yes" get to decide.
I hope to choose, over union fears I might vote "no,"
my dreams of self-determination over their doubts of my ability to know my best interests,
my love of liberty over their hate of my independence,
my similarities to voters for public office, not claimed differences,
my longing for a better workplace,
not walls around my voting rights.

I am voting against the Employee-Free Choice Act the only way left to me. I am voting for John McCain.

I think all of you liberal idiots deserve what you get. Obama will take everything this country has worked hard for and turn it into trash. He only won because the minority groups who are usually draining society came out to vote. And if you think they voted based on real issues your wrong! It's the color of his skin. I have nothing against his race, just his beliefs. This country is truly going to be in for a rude awakening. It's disgusting we have come so far to the left.

Let's face it. The vast majority of us recognize that Sarah Palin isn't qualified to be President.

I have mixed feelings about whether I want her to lead the Republican party or not. While I am absolutely horrified if she were to actually win the presidency, I feel that if she were to win the Republican nomination, that would mostly just guarantee a 2nd term for Obama, which I want.

Sarah, I am prolife like you. We were told to vote the Bible. You and McCain were the only ones I felt God would endorce. You are like a breath of fresh air for our country. I wish you all the luck in 2012. It will not be hard after he gets done. Peace in all you do. If ever you need a boost let me know I will pull you up ok.
Respectfully,
Myra

obama has proved what a socialist he really is,its time to bring this country back to its roots
