HONOLULU - President-elect Barack Obama has landed here after departing Chicago this morning. He and his family are starting a 12-night vacation on the island of Oahu, where Obama was born and spent virtually all of his youth.
Airport workers waved from the tarmac as the president-elect, his wife, Michelle, and daughters Sasha and Malia stepped off the plane. Obama carried two of his own bags off the plane following the roughly nine-hour trip.
Unlike previous visits to Hawaii by Obama, this one did not appear to be carried live by local television stations.

A well deserved vacation, it is too !! Getting ready for the Herculean task ahead, a make-over of the American economy. President-elect Obama and his cabinet choices have their hands full, given the sorry state the incompetent Republicans have left our country. Unfortunately, in spite of all the rumors you hear, he can't perform any miracles. He will have to fight for every initiative he proposes, only because, the initiatives will be in direct contradiction to the Republicans' approach, supplicating Big Business !! He will be fighting for all of America, not the rich or the powerful. It is about time someone helped the working class and the middle class, instead of using us and laughing at us !! We have grown tired of the Getrich gang, masquerading as politicians or ideologues. Hopefully, a word, not used to often in the last 8 years, hopefully, President-elect Obama will receive the required assistance from we, the people, in straightening out the mess the Bush administrations have left us.
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

Inky: The president-elect AND his wife are well-educated people with ENOUGH INCOME that they aren't going to be unscrupulous (as SOME PEOPLE such as those who have been ripping people off lately) and even THINK ABOUT having the taxpayers pick up the tab for their well-deserved vacation. You must have them mixed up with someone else who pulls this kind of shenanigans ...and there are PLENTY to choose from lately!!!!!

Election Night in Chicago was perfect weather wise.
Now Obama leaves town and we get 30 below wind chills.
What gives???

Maybe now he'll have time to attend a memorial for his grandmother, who was so special to him, but ignored upon her death. I'm very sure he'll find lots of time to ensure that his original birth certificate is buried deeper and deeper and to make sure any old friends stick to the script in regards to him. This man gets creepier and creepier.

Ornery: It's called WINTER!!
Inky: Did your employer pay you anything before you started your last job? I suspect that there are some Secret Service types along for this vacation but they have been with him 24/7 for a while now but that it is just a drop in the bucket compared to what we taxpayers are paying for, If you are concerned check with the current administration for an accounting on how the TARP funds are being spent by the recipients.

A "typical white" christmas for Obama in Hawaii. Bet he shivers everytime he thinks of how he described his grandma.
Obama's got a huge job in front of him. He is calling for "sacrifice" by the people. Let's hope he will show restraint in his travels and trips at the taxpayers' expense.
Taxpayers will pay for the trip because secret service will claim a secluded home was needed. Perhaps, Oprah can offer her home to the Obamas and save us the exhorbitant cost.
How many other "family" members are tagging along on the "free" flight and taking up residence in the vacation home, at tax payer expense?
Just bring the entire family and friends, feed them and house them at taxpayer expense while the taxpayers are suffering.
Not a good sign. Watch how the White House will be filled with relatives living there for extended periods.

To Tammy:
Were you looking in the mirror when you were talking about creepy? I ask you to reread your comments and think of the season. 1.That was extremely nasty comment about his Grandmother. 2. There is no way you could get more than yourself to stick to a script of lies. 3. I hope you didn't use your real name.

Tammy is a typical Yellow Belly Right Winger; absolutely no class at all.Obama did not ignore his grandmother upon her death. He did not have the opportunity to go to Hawaii when she first died becuase he was too busy cleaning up the mess that your fellow Yellow Belly, George W. Bush had created . Oh and Tammy, you won't have to worry about your fellow Yellow Bellies, Bush and Cheney , leaving the United States ever again. While you and the rest of your fellow Yellow Bellies may try to gloss over the crimes commited by the Bush Administration, you can be sure that the rest of the world hasn't.Maybe they can get Alberto Gonzales defend them at their War Crimes trial.

Tammy- I don't think anyone could be creepier than Dick Cheney. Have you seen him lately?? Talk about smarmy. If you can't accept the fact that Obama wil be the next President you should move to China or India or Venezuela.

Remember all the Obamabots on this blog that just INSISTED that Obama was such an everyman that he would be the first president that doesn't play? All campaign long we heard that Obama plays basketball, not golf. Well, well, well, looks like we can toss that one on the BS pile. It's really getting deep over here.

Jeff; Who CARES what he "plays', as long as he doesn't PLAY US for fools the way the outgoing 'administration" did!!!!...his BS bought him four more horrendous years and some of you are the ones who put him back in. (it sure wasn't ME!!!!)

President elect Obama has the right to vacation wherever he pleases. I think some people have not accepted the fact that we have our 1st African American President getting ready to run the United States of America come January 20th, 2009. Get over it!!!!!!! If you don't have anything good to say, keep it to yourself. Change has arrived and the results are forthcoming. So, I suggest to the naysayers to get on board!!!!!!

I don't care, Dawson. It's the obamabots and their willing sycophants in the media who pointed it out, originally, as some kind of noble, holier-than-thou action. Now that it turns out to be a lie it says more about Obama's fans and what they're willing to do to help their leader than anything else.

If Obama love Hawaii then he needs to speak w/ his BIG DONORS, Oaktree Capital who want to put a mega-development on the 5 miles of pristine beach at Turtle Bay on Oahu's scenic North Shore. The people of Hawaii have been fighting a raging battle vs Oaktree ! Oaktree's Billionaire CEO Howard Marks & President Bruce Karsh are BIG fundraisers for Obama. HI Gov, locals, Native Hawaiians, Monk Seal lovers, Environmentalist are all trying to Save Turtle Bay! Groups Keep the North Shore Country & Defend Oahu are scrambling. So what's up with Obama & his $$ Friends ? business as usual ?

I hope that the biggest issue of Barack's administration is that he plays golf and goes to Hawaii on his own dime! Not the human rights violations, uncalled for war, or internment camps that plaque the bush administration and make him the worst president pretty much ever!

I just heard on the news that Bush spent a total of three of his eight years as president between Camp David and his ranch in Texas. Who do you think was paying for that? I have no problem with Obama taking a trip to Hawaii. He has a tough job ahead of him and maybe if Bush had spent a little more time in Washington we wouldn't have all the issues we do today. Aloha!
