Fresh from his Hawaiian vacation, President-elect Barack Obama will leave behind his home and transition office in Chicago and make his move to Washington, D.C., this weekend.
But he won't be staying put for long.
Soon after he is sworn in Jan. 20, the new president is expected to travel outside of Washington to make the case for the massive stimulus package that he hopes will revive the weak economy.
Obama is coming to Washington a couple of weeks early to accommodate his two young daughters, who are to start school at the private Sidwell Friends in Washington next week.
The 44th president likely will be staying in a Washington hotel at least until Jan. 15 , when he moves into Blair House, the official residence for visiting dignitaries located across the street from the White House.
Obama had wanted to move up his stay at Blair House, but was told by the Bush White House that pre-scheduled receptions prevented him from moving in early.
"Tells you what a tony place it is - you can't get in!'' said David Axelrod, the president-elect's chief strategist.
The scheduling difficulties "are not a source of consternation'' for Obama, he added. "I'm confident he'll have a roof overhead.''

Comments
The Obama camp continually complains if they don't get their needs met.
If there was careful planning once elected Obama's team should have put in a request then, not after people had been scheduled to stay at Blair House.
Stop the whining!

Um, Suysan, he said 'it's not a source of consternation'. If you look up the definition, you might realize how incorrect your comment is.

"For the moment, [New Jersey Governor] Mr. Corzine, like Mr. Obama, is putting his faith in public-works spending. Indeed, he has even called on the president-elect to expand his own plans for an infrastructure stimulus to $1 trillion. And it would be hard to deny that our tired infrastructure could use some attention.
But amid all the debate over jump-starting the economy through public works, we risk losing sight of a larger truth: What governors and citizens alike need most is a growing economy that is creating jobs for the people and sending revenue to the capital. Over the long run, the only way to have a healthy and growing economy is to do exactly what New Jersey has not: Trust the people with their own money, and create an environment where initiative and enterprise are rewarded rather than penalized."

What does this have do with anything on this thread? And since when is the Murdoch Street Journal an ironclad source for anything other than rightwing propagana?

Paul Krugman also has some relevant remarks on this issue, but as a mere tourist to reality (if not NJ), I am sure you can find them yourself.

"I'm confident he'll have a roof over his head."
What about Obama's brother, George Hussein Onyango Obama, who lives in a hut in Africa on pennies a day...now there's a guy who really needs a roof over his head!

Why Paulo......It's nice to see your caring and obvious change of heart. A year ago you would have said something like "maybe he'll send him a 10 pc bucket". It is just amazing how you have changed your spots.

Did we in Illinois get a farewell address? If so, I guess I missed it.
When Chicago was converted to Dodge City earlier this month and Federal Plaza into the OK Corral, decent folk like the Obamas decided they didn't like living in the cross fire and got out of town.
Now Pat F and Rod B can shoot it out in Federal Plaza without the distraction of having the President next door.

Does anyone know why Obama isn't sending his children to the public school like Jimmy Carter chose to send his daughter Amy? I think it would send a strong message to the nation that Pres. Obama has confidence in the public school system.
