The Swamp

by Mark Silva

A kiss is just a kiss.

But just remember this: Barbra Streisand would sooner smash her platinum records than be associated with the policies and practices of President George W. Bush.

So a sociable peck on the cheek shared by the award-winning singer and actress and the 43rd president at a ceremony celebrating the arts should be considered as nothing more than that: The Way We Weren't.

My faith in the President is waning. Why kiss this has been Streisand?
All she ever did was complain about everything President Bush tried to accomplish. While not offering any good solutions to our nations problems. I think most American would agree he should have presented his buttocks for a kiss.

Also receiving honors were those great American musicians, Pete Townshend and Roger Daltrey. Huh? Is there a shortage of American artists?

With Bush, who can tell the difference?

Well he's an alright guy if he's giving her an award. Otherwise she can't stand him.

Kenny I agree. Don't these musicians already have enough award shows? I also think this is just the kind of stuff that should be cut from the president's obligations. Doesn't the president have more pressing matters?

"As Time Goes By", a truly great song. A song that Ms. Streisand has recorded and that Django plays in the key of Ab.

I was hopeful that Ms. Streisand would have been a bit more magnaminous and done that infamous democrat thing of "reaching across" but alas, it was not to be. I truly don't understand the on-going mean spirtedness that she seems to hold onto so tightly, for the current president. Did he steal her can of beans too? Apparently a little generosity of spirit and let's just move forward (with her guy now in the cat-bird seat) is not within her to do, even in this scenario. What will Django ever do with all of these, 20 or so, damn Streisand CDs.

I find it quite understandable that Streisand isn't being forgiving. Bush has done nothing to EARN forgiveness from her or from anybody else, and he doesn't look like he's interested in earning it any time soon.

And you can consider it MY act of "reaching across the aisle" that I omit suggesting what you can do with those CD's.

Django,

Ms. Streisand did the kissing (and not just a Hollywood "air kiss," there was contact), W did the receiving -- how far "across the aisle" were you hoping for?

Well, since we are doing music lyrics, here's a perfect 'Bush Admin. Wrap Up Song' ; (I will explain why below)

Sometimes late when things are real
And people share the gift of gab between themselves
Some are quick to take the bait
And catch the perfect prize that waits among the shelves

But oz never did give nothing to the tin man
That he didnt, didnt already have
And cause never was the reason for the evening
Or the tropic of sir galahad.

So please believe in me
When I say Im spinning round, round, round, round
Smoke glass stain bright color
Image going down, down, down, down
Soapsuds green like bubbles

OK, it just doesn't make any sense, right?
That's the perfect Bush song.

OP109,

Tolerance, diversity, peace love, understanding, reachin' across. democrat core values. That's what I'm talkin' about.

I did consider burning the CDs but did not want to add to the Global Warming / Global Climate Change crisis, although I do feel the warmth of your most subtle suggestion. Gotta love this here Swamp. Thanx.
