Reminded of his words in a Hong Kong hotel room when he learned that Barack Obama had won elecetion -- "My God, we did it, we did it'' -- retired Army Gen. Colin Powell, former

"It was an electric moment for me, and I think for the country,'' Powell said in an interview this morning with NBC News' Matt Lauer. "There were so many people who said, 'You know, they'll go in the booth, and they really won't pull the lever for a black man'... There were people around the world who said America is too polarized... and we can't come together to do this. And we did it..''

Powell, who served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff for one president and secretary of state for another, calls Obama ready for duty as commander-in-chief.

"He's fully qualified, and he also happens to be African-American.'' Powell said. "I put it in that order.''

"I think he's starting off with the strong support of the American people,'' Powell said. "America has said, 'OK, this is our decision... now let's come together.'... We have a new spirit in our country.''

As the wingnuts scratch their heads and sarcastically call Obama "the one" and "Messiah", what really is the change? The change is that, like a dirty diaper, America has rejected the fear and failed policies of the republican party. Now that "is" change you can believe in.

Qualified? By what or whom?
-
And has Powell previously endorsed liberal, inexperienced white candidates?
-
Obama takes office as the most opaque of all Presidents, having so little of real substance or accomplishment in his past. The flip-flopping stances, refusal to answer questions, and serial opportunism all point to someone whose main goal was always to get elected to the next higher office- as one of his earlier associates noted: "he was always running for something".
-
Except for sheer arrogance, why does Obama think he can lead the US to better times? His proposals, based on failed ideas of the past, i.e. New Deal-style spending programs and a pacifist foreign policy steeped in appeasement- have no precedent of success in this --or any other-- country. This unscrupulous and unaccomplished (except for writing 2 self-absorbed books) political chameleon was crowned by the media... and George Soros.
-
And instead of the MSM checking out his association with felons like Blago, Rezko, etc, we get stories on how "cool" Barack supposedly is, his puppy-vetting process, and how he likes to play basketball.

Hey "Reaganite" are you really so petty and small that you can't see that this is a proud day for America. Stand up and cheer.

"And has Powell previously endorsed liberal, inexperienced white candidates?"

No, he endorsed a conservative, inexperienced, unintelligent, incompetent white guy named George W. Bush.

Reagan Republican- Obama will give the U.S. direction and leadership unheard of in the past 8 years. Your hero, Reagan, is one of the reasons this country is in the condition it's in. Remember his wife whispering in his ear, he falling asleep at meetings, and off course sending unarmed Marines into Lebanon, then pulling out after they were blown up. Reagan was a fraud and a failure. Losers like you should up and move overseas to a socialist country.

Colin Powell can just shut up. He went to the UN and helped Bush lie us into the war. And yes, he was lying, he's not stupid enough to believe that fake evidence he presented.

Reaganite, who is more unqualified than a senile movie star?

I'm with Flo, let us put down our differences for the day and celebrate America. We can go at it tomorrow.

Our 8 year nightmare is over.

I believe the correct term is “Reagan Democrat”. Remember, Reagan was a Democrat who joined the Republican Party and since he was so center brought Democratic voters along with him. Clinton (though I despise his lack of morals) was successful from the center and Obama will be too. Bush was so far to the Right that he lost the popular vote the first time, nearly lost it the second time and leaves as one of, if not the biggest failure of all Presidents. A blind man could see the Bush Administration skewed the numbers on the economy over the last three or four years while unregulated greed burned it up. They just didn’t count on their oil buddies greed tilting the scale so far that it finally broke the back of the economy. Good riddance to Karl Roves preacher of hatred and distrust.

Colin Powell is a war criminal. First in Vietnam, then in Iraq, then in Iraq again. He's a shame on our collective conscience, and it's absolutely disgusting that he is lauded so universally.

Left of War Criminals you have submitted one of the most ignorant comments I have seen posted! Colin Powell is a true patriot, his accomplishments stand the test of time. He has done it the right way! Served his country(for knobheads like yourself!) honorably. In our society, he sets a great example of what it is to be an American! The most qualified person to be President in the last 10years!

One thing that is true is that people are inspired by the hope that the Obama presidency evokes. It will be a self-fulfilling prophecy. The positive energy that most Americans now feel will translate into powerfully positive changes. The past eight years of disenfranchisement will be washed away with a new sense of ownership.

Obama carries many and many's hope, which is very true

People look to Obama for leadership, and they look to him for hope. Hopefully he will be able to live up to his high expectations.
