The Swamp

by Jim Oliphant

Members of the Florida A&M marching band endured a wealth of hardships to get here. A 26 hour bus ride, a flat tire, a distant hotel over across the bay in Cambridge. Md.

But today, to them, it is worth it. The band from the African American college in Tallahassee, Florida will be the only band to stop and perform for the new president during the parade. To that end, the band has been practicing two or three hours a day since Christmas.

Band member Devin Collins of Tampa said that last night, he was thinking about "what I am going to say to my grandkids? How I am going to tell them I prepared for this?"
