When the retired President George W. Bush returns to Texas, he'll be taking a fellow Texan with him.
Michael E. Meece will serve as chief of staff in the office of George W. Bush, the White House announced today.
"Meece has been a trusted advisor to the president over many years, beginning in his policy office when he was governor of Texas,'' said White House Press Secretary Dana Perino, who will be delivering her final briefing at the James A. Brady Press Briefing Room on Firday.
Meece, who served as special assistant to the president and deputy director for the Office of Public Liaison, also worked as deputy chief of staff to then- Commerce Secretary Don Evans, a close friend of Bush from Texas. He is president of Meece Group, LLC, a Washington consulting firm. He received both his bachelor's and his law degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
Both Meece and his wife are native Texans, Perino said today, "so over the next few weeks they will pack up their lives here in Washington, wrap that up, and then head back to Texas.''

I guess this means Michael E. Meece is the lucky one who gets a six figure job setting up photo ops of W. clearing brush from now on.

WHILE BUSH REWRITES HISTORY, SHOULD OBAMA BE LOOKING BACK?
Obama can be given a pass for not wishing to look backward. The rest of the country, however, should do so.

Too many pieces of the system need fixing to let things slide.
