The U.S. Chamber of Commerce will urge Congress this morning to invest heavily in so-called "clean coal" research, to expand incentives for nuclear energy and renewable fuels, and to keep its hands off domestic oil and gas drilling.
The powerful business group will host its annual "State of American Business" speech this morning in Washington, and this year, the event is focused squarely on America's top problem: how to reignite the domestic economy.
The plan Chamber officials are set to unveil includes several energy-themed pieces. And it urges caution on what is shaping up to be a top priority for the incoming Obama Administration: cracking down on carbon emissions to fight global warming.
Excerpts of the plan include:
* Asking neither Congress nor Obama to reinstate a ban on new drilling for oil and natural gas offshore or on federal land.
* Spending more on the technologies that seek to "clean" coal by capturing its carbon emissions before they escape.
* "Market-based incentives" for nuclear energy and "R&D seed capital" for wind, solar and other alternative enery sources.
* A global warming policy that is set by Congress -- and not regulated by the EPA -- and is based upon "sound science" and "the principles of technology, efficiency, economic growth, and the need for global action."

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HAS RUINED AMERICA.
(repeat)
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE HAS RUINED AMERICA.
In Gainesville Florida, the 'Chambergate' episode suppressed University of Florida professors who had expertise for a young, Harvey Milk-type city council.
What the chamber did in the service of Florida Blue Key is very illustrative of the kinds of 'deals' the chamber is for.
JUST SAY NO TO THE CHAMBER.

drilling for a few more thousand barrels a day is self-defeating since it will only aggrevate the global warming Washington and the energy co's and Detroit have denied to the current point of near-crises and near tipping-point for the north and south poles.
It is also an exercise in denial. The world's largest oil fields are in such declines that no more drilling will ever compensate and, they are determined to reduce their output by millions, not thousands, a day, to drive prices back up - putting the world's economies at further, permanent, risk. ... and continuing to fund terrorism.
The only solution is to get as completely off our self-destructive oil addiction as possible, as fast as possible.

Despite the pandering of Paul Krugman in the current Rolling Stone, increased union membership between
1935 and 1945 in no way caused “the great postwar boom.” In fact,
widespread strikes worsened and prolonged the Great Depression until after WWII, when union power was constrained by the Taft-Hartley Act in 1947. Likewise, the
Employee-Free Choice Act would not “enable America to take a huge step
toward recapturing the middle-class society we’ve lost” because we never
lost it. It would simply repeat history by worsening economic conditions at
the expense of employee free choice protected by the sanctity of the private
ballot.

The shill for the Chamber of Commerce ought to read "Confessions of a Union Buster" by reformed union buster Marty Levitt. Perhaps then he/she would understand why the Employee Free Choice Act should become law.

I wonder who is bankrolling these anti-union schills? They keep posting on unrelated subjects. Someone sure is desperate to make sure american workers make less, have fewer benefits, and less power. They think they can improve the economy by making american workers poorer.

Yes, of course, it is bad for us to get more resources to lower our own costs, make some money by selling those resources and to put people to work in actual jobs in actual jobs that are high paying. Very bad policy on the part of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
And, of course, we have the global warming crowd. Hey, global warming enthusiasts, please explain why Alaska and Northern Canada right now are -50 F to -60 F? Why Eastern Europe is going through a brutally cold winter? Why Chicago temps were lower by .4 F in 2008 than the historic average? Why Malibu had snow this winter? Houston, New Orleans and Las Vegas had snow this winter? Why global temps are actually down, not up? I know global warming also causes cooling. Global warming causes heat, cold, droughts, fires, floods, storms, sunny days, cloudy days, foggy days, rainy days, snowy days, icy days, mild days.

John D......your answer as to why the temps are down is because it is wintertime you knuckledragger! lol

* A global warming policy that is set by Congress -- and not regulated by the EPA -- and is based upon "sound science" ... ~ Chamber of Commerce
------------------------------------------
It would not be too bad of a thing if we could get back to the sound science that the COC refers to here.
- The most abundant greenhouse gas that the Environmentalists would probably prefer that you do not become too cognizant of is a compound called water. It is easy to attack carbon dioxide, not quite as easy to go after water vapor.
- The surface area of the earth is slightly less than 200 million square miles (SA = 4 pi x r squared, r = 3956 miles), with 70% of that area being water. That's a lot of area and a lot of water.
- The CO2 in the atmosphere is generally stated as 0.04 mole (volume) percent, not lower than 0.038 %, not higher than 0.054%. On the high side we are gettin our shorts in a wad over + 0.014% CO2. 140 parts in a million, along with that big temperature change of 0.7 C.
- The sun operates at 10,000,000 C + , depending upon periodic solar flaring issues. Solar flaring can drive that to 20,000,000 C, or higher. Environmentalists / Leftists, It's HOT up in there.
- The oceans, that's 70% of the earth's surface area, have been documented to impart a lag time effect on the earth's weather that is measured in centuries. The weather of 2008 is brought to you by geoscience events of 1808, 1608, or even 1208. What, exactly, are you going to do about that.
- Scientists generally agree that the climate undergoes changes, but those changes also include cooling, and more significantly, it is all part of a natural earth cycle of heating and cooling. Regardless to what shoelace scientists may think, Republican Capitalists really can't take all the credit, here, for every anecdotal year to year change in the weather.
- And finally there is the Django Theorem which is every bit as valid as the rest of the Weird Not Proven Cuckoo Hypothesis. That is, of course, that Pretty Latinas are the cause of Global Warming. Two Pretty Latinas walking down the street can absolutely liquidfy concrete. I have observed this on numerous occassions and can personally vouch for this theorem.

Who's going to drill? Not the oil companies. They're cutting back production and exploration, not increasing it.

Poor John D. You haven't learned the ways of the celebrities and the left. Global warming is caused by...Global Warming.
Global cooling is caused by...Global Warming. It's quite simple, actually. For further scientific research , refer to Algore or the other scientific study by climatologists, "The Day After Tomorrow."

What about buying any fuel-saving device patents that the oil companies might have tucked away.

Johnny D still hasn't learned the difference between weather and climate. I'll bet he thinks the economy must be doing well since he still has money in his personal checking account.

Curious,
1. Read The Forgotten Man or any other credible economic history of the Great Depression.
2. Management consultants want EFCA as much as unions do. They will have perennial union prevention contracts with any employer that previously would have only called them once they received an election petition. Every action creates an equal and opposite reaction. The employees who would have voted "NO" to the union trying to get in will be the biggest losers (including those who signed a card to get someone off their back). They lose their voting rights unless the union supporters want an election (fat chance).

Just one more question for you to ignore. Have you demanded that what ever organization it is that hired you to make these posts pay you less? If it's better for workers to make less, I assume you're doing your part and demanding a yearly pay decrease. Maybe you should form a union for Corporate Schills. If you all band together, you can make all of your lives better.

The Chamber-- not exactly full of fresh ideas. They probably stole some 'drill baby drill' signs from the Repuglican convention, so they at least are recycling stuff-- and ideas. Bad ideas.

Curious Shill,
Thanks for your concern. I would vote "NO UNION," but this isn't about me. But trying to ridicule me is easier that defending EFCA, isn't it?

John D. has a vested interest in the 'global warming doesn't exist' argument. HVAC
