It's no longer Rahmbo. It's Rahm 2.0, the kinder, gentler Rahm Emanuel.
At least that's what the New York Times tells us. Emanuel, President Barack Obama's White House chief of staff, is no longer standing on tables to fire up the troops or talking about braining Republicans with two-by-fours as he did back when he ran the House Democrats' campaign efforts.
Instead, he's adapting to his boss's more serene style and to the team of Obama loyalists from the successful presidential campaign . Of course, Emanuel's adaptation is occurring in a very Rahmian way.
The story starts with this lively anecdote.
Early this month, Barack Obama was meeting with the House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, and other lawmakers when Rahm Emanuel, his chief of staff, began nervously cracking a knuckle.
Mr. Obama then turned to complain to Mr. Emanuel about his noisy habit.
At which point, Mr. Emanuel held the offending knuckle up to Mr. Obama's left ear and, like an annoying little brother, snapped off a few special cracks.
Emanuel clearly refuses to knuckle under to any man, including the president.
Then there's this story:
At a White House gathering with Mr. Obama and a bipartisan team of lawmakers on Friday, the House majority leader, Steny H. Hoyer, Democrat of Maryland, joked that Mr. Emanuel was too busy to talk to him, so he called the president instead. Mr. Obama said he was always happy to take calls for his chief of staff -- a reference to an incident a few weeks ago when Mr. Hoyer called Mr. Emanuel, who was in the back of a car and claimed he was too busy to talk, so he handed the phone to Mr. Obama.
The president picked Emanuel because he gets things done and he had the right combination of experiences, the Clinton White House, Capitol Hill, the private sector.
But Emanuel apparently has another aspect that's useful in a White House. While he's a serious man living in serious times, he doesn't take himself too seriously. Having someone like him inside the West Wing bubble will likely make a positive difference.

Top notch journalism...with a gaping hole...did the Tribune miss Rahm Emanuel's "trip to Africa" a “for "long-planned vacation to Kenya, Uganda and Zambia, traveling with his wife, Amy, their three children and friends”, right in the midst of the Blagojevich investigation?
Seems odd, when we are told that our politicians are under such a microscope, that a high profile guy like Emanuel can just disappear in during a scandal where he appeared as a negotiator for the President (and during a shooting war in Israel).

This was a puff piece on Rahm Emauel by the NY Times who are literally in bed with democrats.
How does the Times describe Rahm at the inauguration as he places his thumb to his nose with 4 fingers extended: "playful"?
How about childish? This is a man in government and at a historic inauguration acting like a child.
The Times failed to mention Rahm sending a dead fish to a reporter he didn't like and the fact that he took a knife and stabbed a table while calling out names of people he didn't like and saying, "dead".
Nor did the Times mention that Rahm co-authored a book, "The Plan", in which Obama lifted all his ideas.
It's Rahm who is president and Obama's the shill.
One idea of Rahm's is compulsory service, a draft, for your country. Did Rahm service the US...no, he ran off to Israel and served with Israeli forces, not the US.
BTW, he changed brakes on trucks. Rahm's father is an israeli terrorist. And this apple doesn't fall far from the tree.
Rahm is our first jewish president.
Obama should rid himself of Rahm. Emanuel even shows disrespect to the President when Obama asked him to stop cracking his knuckles, Rahm got up and cracked his knuckles in Obama's ear.
Or maybe, Obama desperately needs Emanuel because Obama is so far out of his league.
Hail to the Chief Emaneul.
Rahm is an immature disgrace.

right on Harry...they also forgot to mention Rahms own Father's hatred for all that is Arabian. When asked what his son would be doing in the White House he replied with "not mopping floors like some Arab would"...huh?
And the mystery Africa trips timing is as suspect as they come---key figure in Blago blow up suddenly not available and out of the country...He was in Tel Aviv, doing what Pro Jewish People do. I wouldnt want to be any kind of Arab these next 4 years. Imagine what his own Father has taught this man since his youth about jews and those who are non jews.
Its Scary. Makes me truly believe Obama is a Jewish puppet.
Too bad Rahm didnt give the millions he made when he was an "investment banker" to Madoff.

Reviewing the US Attorney's transcript of the Nov 10th call between Rahm & Gov Blago
gives one great insight into how Rahm thinks and works.
He definitely seems to be living out a "Godfather" fantasy. Rahm thinks he is the "Hagen" character but I think he's the "Sonny" character.
So as Rahm's wise guy idols would put it, "The over and under on how long he'll keep his job is 1 Year.
I'll take the under.

Can't depend on the Tribune-
Maybe Blago will bring up the the"Rahm cover up" on Larry King or "The View"
But have my doubts of the View as its all Obama.

Hey Dirty Harry,
The only point you make clear and indisputable is that you are an angry little person. I have serious doubts about the rest.
Good luck anyway.

Well, "Harry" HOW DO YOU THINK CANDIDATES GET THE BIG MONEY? THEY become people who COUNT, members of the OLIGARCHY. If you DON'T LIKE WHAT THEY'RE DOING, COMPLAIN.
It's that simple.
And if you DOUBT that they are members of the oligarchy, how many people buy mansions of thousands of dollars' worth of fine jewelry. WAKE UP. It's not that Rahm is Jewish, it's that he's part of the genocidal AIPAC/Mossad cult that's taken over our government.
WHAT CAN WE DO? Take Pres Obama up on his claim that information is to be provided to us..

So the Times didn't repeat a 20 year old dead fish story that they and every other news outlet has written about ad nauseum, and didn't amount to a whole lot anyway.
So they've watched Animal House and got a good laugh at Belushi stabbing a table and screaming "dead" at his enemies, the obvious inspiration for the other incident, also ancient history, and also reported ad nauseum in the their paper and others.
So they've actually read The Plan rather than buying into a bunch of fear mongering "talking points" spewed out by the right wing hate machine.
So they know volunteering to service vehicles for a couple weeks on the Israel border while they were under attack is not the same as serving in the Israeli army, and the U.S. military does not have a similar short term volunteer program (maybe if we adopted that idea in The Plan, we would).
So they don't hold a child responsible for his father.
So our new President has a sense of humor.
So Harry and his ilk, who helped elect a mental midget to the White House who ran our country into the ground for the past eight years, are so angry that their guy lost, to a black man no less, who appointed a Jewish chief of staff, no less, that they can't see straight. So what else is new.

Emanuel must have the same mental problems as Britney Spears: they both have a wild eyed look and both are extremely immature. He also has control over BO because he knows everything about his background that has been hidden from the people of the U.S.

Oh my. He cracks his knuckles and he took a vacation before Inauguration Day. I'm worried about this guy!! You Chicago people need to get a grip. And me, I'm going to re-read the Godfather and see if I can find Rahm.

I was trying to figure out what transcript you were talking about. Surely it would have been big news had the U.S. Attorney's office released transcripts of a conversation with Rahm. And then it hit me - he must have thought the made up conversation written by a blogger on the DailyKos was real. Oh dear.

lily nailed it. The only thing Harry forgot was to call Rahm out as just another Chicago Machine hack.
Such desperate times for the insignificant fringe.

Harry....I can understand Rahm having a good time at a festive occasion here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/20/rahm-emanuel-at-the-inaug_n_159427.html?page=6 But does this picture of your pug sourpuss hero make your points then invalid? http://i218.photobucket.com/albums/cc275/thehousenextdoor/2008/Links%20for%20the%20Day/July%202008/July%2015%202008/KarlRove.gif Pug logic only makes sense to idiots.

Emauel might think he's a staunch Zionist, but is unlikely to be much help to a new Netanyahu government... he has a lot more in common with the Israeli left, which is about to get stomped in the upcoming election. He was involved with Clinton's Camp David Accord, and even choreographed the "Arafat handshake" photo op. This agreement involved compromises from the Israelis that look ill-advised in hindsight, and were not met in good-faith by the Palestinians.
After that, he was named to the BOD of Freddie Mac by Clinton in 2000. During the time DNC fundraising expert Emanuel spent on the board, the lending agency was plagued with scandals involving campaign contributions and accounting irregularities. Emanuel resigned from the board in 2001 when he ran for congress. Having a Democratic fundraising whiz on the Board of the FHLMC when they where dishing-out questionable campaign funds to politicians is perhaps something that should be looked into further, now that the agency was instrumental in bringing down the US economy.
In 2002 Emanuel then pursued the U.S. House seat previously held by Rod Blagojevich, who successfully ran for Governor, with both Rahm and Barack as senior campaign advisors. Contrary to their current treatment of Blago like a leper they've never met, in a 2008 interview in the New York Times Emanuel bragged that he and Obama "participated in a small group that met weekly when Rod was running for governor. We basically laid out the general election, Barack and I, and these two."
Rahmbo likes to be seen as a rough, tough "screw you" type of operator. But, with the unwelcome attention recently brought by the Blagojevich case, he is on the other end of the hose this time... and does not handle the pressure well. His silence and almost complete dissappearance from the public eye raises a number of questions regarding his role in the affair, as does his repeated testiness with the press in the days following Blago's arrest.
What is abundantly clear is that someone from Team Obama talked to Blago's staffers, relaying the information that Obama would (initially) only provide appreciation in exchange for Valerie Jarrett's ("candidate #1") appointment to the Senate seat, as stated on the FBI tapes. Somehow Blago's people were also later informed that Obama had upped his offer, and "could provide seats on company boards" that would pay up to $150K/yr. for Patti Blagojevich, and that Obama had to "suck it up for a couple years", which sounds A LOT like temporarily refraining from previous commonplace bribing and racketeering. doesn't it?.
It seems that Rahm Emanuel was brought-on-board by Obama at least partly for fundraising skills... but could he also have skeletons related to the large amount of questionable funds that found their way to the Obama campaign?
This guy is bad news, but so are a lot of Obama's nominations.

The first interview of Rahm Emanuel that I watched did not leave the impression of a light-hearted political insider. His manner and facial expressions communicated that he brooked no critique, had no respect for those with opposing political agendas, and also gave me the impression of someone who was going to further his political ambitions costs be damned. Will the steak knife wielding, knuckle posturing politico be a hinderance to President Obama (any more than "I don't know when to shut my mouth Vice-President Biden)? That remains to be seen.
