The Swamp

President-elect Barack Obama's family has checked into a hotel a block from the White House, so that his young daughters can start school at Sidwell Friends School on Monday and the president-elect can meet with congressional leaders on Monday.

The two-week runup to the inauguration of the 44th president on Jan. 20 begins today.

Wife Michelle Obama and daughters Sasha and Malia checked into the Hay-Adams Hotel on Saturday, to get a headstart on preparations for the private school that has served the families of presidents. The president-elect plans to arrive late today at Andrews Air Force Base.

The Daily Beast has a great column about how historically Presidential Inaugurations have been a huge letdown--an overpriced Inaugural Hell. See http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-01-04/inaugural-hell/full/ for the lowdown about ripping off contributors, overcrowded balls, bad weather and overpriced housing. And how Obama's inauguration is shaping up to be the worst of the lot.

Oh, Bruce---just watch it on t.v. and enjoy it.
