They had dinner last night, members of Congress did.
And some of them told jokes, like some of them always do, at the annual congressional dinner of the Washington Press Club Foundation.
As usual, some were carrying joke-writers' scripts.
But some of them got off some good lines, as The Hill reports.
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) elicited some laughter with her: "I'm up here telling the jokes and Al Franken is going to be our senator. What's wrong with this picture?"
After declaring that she had raised $17,000 in campaign contributions from her ex-boyfriends, she said: "I know in the House that record is held by Barney Frank."
House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-Ohio) couldn't make the dinner because "as you know, Wednesdays are his tanning night,'' said Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.)
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) revealed how she had gotten comfortable behind the podium: "I took off my shoes, but don't be afraid, I'm not going to be up here that long."

I see that Crooked Norm Coleman and his "Party First, Country Last" Repug enablers are still trying to stonewall Senator Al Franken from taking his seat in congress.
It won't last much longer (two weeks) because Crooked Normy is on the verge of being laughed out of the court room up there in Minn.

Coleman doesn't even have a slim chance anymore..only the Repug Minn Star Tribune paints rosy for Norm, everyone else knows it's over for him. His lawyers are incompetent hacks. I can't believe the lack of "anything" they have showed in court so far.

Bull, Al Franken stole this election pure and simple.
We all know it, you know it and I hope the courts right the wrong that was done here.

Did you count the votes yourself, George?

I find it quite funny that people in Minn look to celebrities to get them out of the messes that they find themselves in. Al Franken made a name for himself by acting like a moron on SNL. Is he really the best you could find? Al Franken is currently the biggest joke in Minn and the US these days.

I find it funny that the same folks who like to deride and demean Senator Franken for his previous careers, are the very same folks who worship Ronald Reagan.
His first career was as an actor (with chimps no less) and, possibly more damning, he was a democrat.

Hey Ed,
George did count the votes himself. In fact, he counted them twice, which made it necessary for him to post his comment twice.
The most laughable aspect of this election is that Coleman wasted no time after the initial count, calling on Franken to concede. Now that the tables turned, we see Coleman reverse that strategy to seek every conceivable delay.
This has nothing to do with what count/recount was correct. Coleman is delaying Franken so that Democrat senators in D. C. have to seek one more Republican vote. He can blow smoke about a dozen "missing" ballots, but is that really going to help him in the end?
The most telling fact about this story is that Coleman is now getting uncomfortable. Franken should also feel some discomfort, but I suppose that we can save that for the bruising he is going to receive either when he gets into the Senate or gets kicked to the curb.

Makes sense to me. Al Franken: idiotic, silly comedy writer represents you guys. That of course was after you elected a pro wrestler as Governor...LOL. Thank God I don't live in Minn

Gentlemen it's not Mr. Franken nor Mr. Coleman who will decide the issue, it's the laws of the state of Minn. Hand counted ballots, under close observation by both parties will resolve the count, for a certanity. What's more fair than that?

Actually based on how reasonably he argued on Air America’s “Al Franken Show” I’m predicting that he won’t be a bad senator at all.
It’s actually a pity; his show was really good. But I guess he assumed he could do more good by actually getting involved in the political process than by making satirical commentary about it from the sidelines…
