How many Lincoln pennies will it take to pay for the handwritten Lincoln manuscript that has gone at auction in New York today?

344,000,000 pennies.

The text of a speech that Lincoln gave in 1864 after his reelection has fetched $3.44 million, according to Christie's - an auction record for any American historical document - sold to the anonymous bidder on the telephone.

The previous record of $3.4 million was set last year.

Another Lincoln document.

The new sale will benefit the Southworth Library Association in Dryden, N.Y., in the Finger Lakes region. The library, which has owned the document since 1926 is building a new wing with the proceeds
