Sen. John McCain, the Arizona Republican, appeared to be salvaging whatever solace he could from the defeat of his home state Arizona Cardinals in last night's thrilling Super Bowl which was won by the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In talking with anchor Harry Smith of CBS News's "Early Show" the 72-year old 2008 Republican presidential nominee seemed to have a flashback to the recent election which he lost to the 47-year old President Barack Obama.
Here's his exchange with Smith:
SMITH: Mm-hmm. Sorry about your Cards last night, Senator.
Sen. McCAIN: Where--the old guy, Warner, almost won. For a change, an old guy almost won. I'm proud of him.
Kurt Warner, the Cardinals quarterback, is 37 years old, fairly long in the tooth for an NFL player.

I would bet anyone that John McCain, the Arizona Republican, hasn't the foggiest that the Cardinal once played in Chicago.

I couldn't be prouder of Kurt Warner and the Cardinals team! I was pulling for them and even though it was a heartbreaker walk with your heads high! You were truly an inspiration and fought like the champion you are.Even if the score showed otherwise you are truly the victors. You never quit and surely secured yourself as one if not the best superbowls ever.I enjoyed it very much! You let everyone know your heart far surpasses your age and you will get em next year. GO CARDS!!!!!!!!!!!

Kurt Warner is one of the most unappreciated and underrated great quarterbacks in the NFL. He flat outplayed Ben Roethlisberger last night.
