They said that Ronald Reagan was the great communicator.
But an overwhelming majority of people surveyed say that Barack Obama is a "good communicator.''
The president's overall public approval rating is running at 64 percent in the Pew Research Center's newest poll - though just a slim majority of those surveyed by Pew, 51 percent, say they like what they've seen of the president's economic stimulus plan.
"The survey finds that, after nearly a month in office, Obama's personal image is extremely strong,'' Pew reports. "Overwhelming majorities view Obama as a strong leader (77 percent) and trustworthy (76 percent), while an even higher percentage (92 percent) says he is a good communicator and 87 percent call him "warm and friendly."
"Moreover, the belief that Obama represents a break from politics as usual is widespread, despite the highly partisan reaction to his economic stimulus proposal,'' Pew notes. "About two-thirds of Americans (66 percent) -- including a narrow majority of Republicans -- say that Obama "has a new approach to politics in Washington'' -- as opposed to 25 percent who call his approach "business as usual."
Obama's 64 percent job-approval rating in the Pew survey is higher than initial marks for his two most recent predecessors, Presidents George W. Bush (53 percent) and Bill Clinton (56 percent).
Only about one third of Americans (34 percent) approve of the job that Republican leaders in Congress are doing, while 51 percent disapprove.

When a homeless woman in Florida asked the President a question he walked to her and embraced her. This is a remarkable man. The homeless community in America grows every day and, once embraced, is difficult to escape. ............

Pres Obama and the Dems are still more popular than McConnell, Boehner and the Limbaugh Congressional GOP put together. I look forward to seeing the numbers once the stimulus passes.
I can't say that I'm surprised, especially when you consider that their (GOP) constituency consists of the richest 1-2%, big corporations and big oil...

Many people have compared Obama to Reagan, and the comparison is apt.
.
-- Both are and were relaxed in front of cameras and seem affable and charming.
-- Both are and were (mistakenly) percieved as being "outsiders" and a break from business as usual.
-- And so far, Obama seems to also have Reagans thick Teflon coating, as this poll shows.

Some time ago Obama remaked that the USA is not a Christian country even though 23 out of 26 signers of the Declaration of Independence were ordained christian ministers. Can Obama be trusted?
