President Barack Obama strikes his head against Marine One, Monday, Feb 9, 2009, as he leaves for a trip to Elkhart, Ind. (AP Photo/Ron Edmonds)
by Frank James
President Barack Obama has been banging heads with Congress over his economic stimulus bill. And as if that weren't enough of a headache, as he entered Marine One this morning to chopper over to Andrews Air Force Base to begin his trip to Elkhart, Indiana today, he forgot to bend his 6 ft 1-1/2 inch frame as he entered the aircraft's door and banged the left side of his head against the top of the doorway.
At his town-hall meeting in Elkhart, he appeared unscathed by the flesh-on-metal collision. Fortunately for Obama, the new Marine One scheduled to go into service later this year won't require him to remember to bend down.
-- Update --
After seeing video of the incident, the president clearly had more of a bump than a bang. It looks like those finely honed reflexes sharpened on the basketball court served him well as he appeared to bend in order to soften the blow almost as soon as he sensed it coming.
-- Correction --
The new Marine One helicopters are scheduled to be delivered next year, 2010, according to a March 2008 Washington Post article, this year as I wrote in the original post.

Is this news? Thankfully he is the only person to have ever hit their heads.

Yes bill r. this IS news because you O-bots cling to his every move. Just remember we he bangs his head you bang yours. When he feels pain you feel pain and we he laughs you laugh.

I bumped by head hard this morning getting into my BMW. It was realing for a couple of minutes. Then I started listening to MIA and it went away.

If he'd ever served in the military, he'd know you have to duck to enter a helicopter. Guess they don't teach that in the Acorn Voter Fraud classes.

I feel like this belongs in Us Magazine next to Britney Spears coming out of a Starbucks and a "Just Like Us" slammer headline going across both photos.

Mr. James, you have got to be kidding us.

I think they should make another Commemorative Plate to mark this historic occasion.

This may not be news but I seem to recall in the late 70's we were treated to continuous (back then) video clips of President Ford bumping his head, tripping, and whacking people with golf balls. In fact Comedian Chevy Chase made a whole act about it.

If this is news, I fear for the Tribune's future.
I might also add that Lyndon Johnson, Gerry Ford and Bill Clinton, all of whom were/are much taller than Obama, surely bumped their noggins a few times as well.

Gee Danforth if that is the case then W would have remembered to do that as well. The last day in office he almost knocked himself out. And as far as fraud goes... Let's see there is the SEC debacle, there is the justice dept. incident, there is the ongoing torture deal... And lets see under who'a watch did the recession start, right that was Dumbya's wasn't it?

Danforth...Well far be it from me to take away the red meat. Froth at the mouth all you can. Enjoy!

Is this part of Obam's old CHANGE or new his new CHANGE?

Hardly a G. Ford moment. More of a rub than a bump...
As others say "where's the news?"

Hey Bill, do you have that copy of the Inky to English book again.....he made another post!! Some one needs to teach that boy some vocabulary....CHANGE and PORK need not be used in every sentence. He is the greatest flag bearer for the pugs we have though.

Maybe tomorrow we can learn about how it once took the president two tries to tie a shoe lace. I think I'll look to this web site a lot less for "news".

David Letterman had a field day replaying the Bush "bump" on Marine One.
Let's see if Dave will show President Obama's nudge on Marine One.
Does President Obama eat pretzels?

Bill Polk should be expecting a knock at the door real soon.

That guy is a real doofus, hitting his head like that .....wait that isn't Bush, it's Obama.....Never mind. I think someone made the door smaller & didn't tell Obama. Totally not his fault.
Posted by: Nelson | February 9, 2009 4:20 PM
X......I threw away my copy because it was too hard to translate and quite frankly....it became easier to understand as they were all the samething with few changes. I bought a book on Pavlovs dog and have been able to interpret due to many similar reflexes to different stimulus.

What about the Millions of Blades of grass that he bent, while walking to the helicopter. Will that be on the Nature channel, or Planet Earth. Or will Rush Limbaugh have that on his useless show.
Posted by: Don | February 9, 2009 4:29 PM
"Fortunately for Obama, the new Marine One scheduled to go into service later this year won't require him to remember to bend down."
Now THAT is a news story. Everything else related to the development of the VH-71 Kestrel says that it will not reach operational capability until at least 2012.

Golly, this sure was useful. Glad to see hard-hitting journalism is still all the rage. When can we look forward to the next story? You know, the one where his stomach gurgles?

Censors, how did a post that combines racism and a call to assassinate the President of the United States get posted?

I never thought I'd be admitting this, but I miss Hillary already.

27 and counting posts on this and 5 on the stimulus. Thankfully the right is hard at work solving our problems. We should listen to the "great" Americans more often.

Good lord! His head barely touched the side of the copter and he's Gerald Ford? Something is definitely afoot in the media and across the land, and it's antsy, anxious, hyper, weird. How pleasant it would be to go back to the level of general weirdness we faced in the early '90s or even the cocaine-clouded '80s.
Posted by: Jumbotron | February 9, 2009 5:04 PM
Did he really hit his head or was it faked so that he can say later on when all the pork he is pushing to get passed goes down the tubes he can say he doesn's remember any thing to do with it.

Maybe the "bump" was the cause of the multitude of lies made during his speechifying.

As a democrat, I find this hilarious.
But not quite as hilarious as the angry Obama-haters who want nothing more than to see him fail and screw up the country even more.
Obama-haters, here's a simple, non partisan question: did you like the Bush era? Are you better off financially? Do you believe the country is better off financially?
When Bush was in office, Democrats wanted for him to succeed to so that the country would succeed. We were painfully aware that Bush's failures - of which there were many - were ultimately damaging to the country, which any patriot knows is a bad thing.
With Obama in office, many Republicans actually want to see him fail, irrespective of the ramifications on the state of America.
What misplaced hate and anger.

Jason, you are either a revisionist and a liar, or you weren't actually listening to yourself and your fellow oh-so-patriotic Democrats for the last eight years. They wanted Bush to succeed. Ha. Funny statement. Or just ridiculously delusional. You pick.
Posted by: JB | February 9, 2009 5:28 PM
"When Bush was in office, Democrats wanted for him to succeed to so that the country would succeed. "
Ummm, guess I missed that when Harry Reid said Iraq was a failure and the surge wouldn't work. If you can show me where the "wanting him to succeed" is in there, be my guest. Now that's just one example, but there's plenty of others.
I support the President... I don't support socialist policy.
Posted by: Jeff | February 9, 2009 5:51 PM
If this was about Bush, 90% of you people would be saying "OMG ONLY AN IDIOT WOULD HIT HIS HEAD! LOLLOLOLLLZ"
But because it's Obama you're all offended.
What a sad world we live in.
Posted by: Kevin | February 9, 2009 5:52 PM
Jeff,
You're as phony as the day is long. Be true to your own convictions and hate any Democrat that is ever president. I won't like it, but I'll respect you for it.
Posted by: Doug Zook | February 9, 2009 6:05 PM
Jason - I won't make any disparaging remarks toward you because I do think you meant what you said. Too bad there aren't more democrats like you - we'd all be getting along a lot better. But unfortunately many on the lib side didn't see things the way you do, and openly cheered every misstep that the previous administration made. There's misguided anger on both sides; no one has that monopoly, but the libs sure celebrated the proverbial "headknocks' every chance they got. I want Obama to succeed, because as an American, he is our leader. Admittedly I'm skeptical that he will be...but I sure hope, in this case, that I am wrong.
As far as him bumping his head, he seemed to do a pretty agile duck into M1. The C/ONN newscycle obviously was a bit light today...

The unabashed hypocracy of the press!!! Not long ago President Ford had a mishap AND the intellegencia that posses itself as the media had a field day.
The 5th column here is no different than the official organs of the Soviet Union "Pravda" and "Izvestia".

As the hardened steel bulkhead reared back to strike The Chosen One, Barack's own steely muscles flexed in toned response. His glistening delts deftly deflected the attack, his six-pack abs allowed his body to bend in a graceful twist, his back muscles like columns of warm marble supported his athletic frame as the blow merely glanced off of his precious face.
America's media is so predictable.

Bush enjoyed support for years until it became obvious he had bumbled the important issues. I can tell you that after 2 weeks in office he didn't recieve the crap Obama has. Spin it any way you like...but that is fact.
Posted by: bill r. | February 9, 2009 6:35 PM
He walks into windows, too. It's not Abe Lincoln he's channeling, but Jerry Ford.
Posted by: Orion | February 9, 2009 7:29 PM
You might want to fact check the statement about "O" not needing to duck to get into the VH-71.
Posted by: Mac | February 9, 2009 10:44 PM
Look at what the "reporter" said about the incident:
"After seeing video of the incident, the president clearly had more of a bump than a bang. It looks like those finely honed reflexes sharpened on the basketball court served him well as he appeared to bend in order to soften the blow almost as soon as he sensed it coming."
If you've been alive for any amount of time you realize how fogged up the glasses are of the media for "The One". This "reporter" actually turns a clumsy bump on the head by BO to tell us about how finely honed his reflexes are. He even "sensed" the bump coming...he's prophetic!
Posted by: cb | February 12, 2009 10:41 AM
Bush never stumbled this bad in 8 years. No matter how you spin it, O is a buffoon.
Let's see if SNL has the balls to do a skit on this. I could write a number of hilarious ones just off the top of my head.
Or MAD TV could do a take-off with Obama as the frenetic UPS guy? (If they had the cajones, that is.)
