To hear House Speaker Nancy Pelosi tell it, she was channeling all of America when she voted for the president's $787-billion economic stimulus bill today.

"I could feel it myself, when I turned in my voting card, that I was voting not just for myself but the people in my district and all Americans that I was fulfilling the wishes'' of all, said Pelosi (D-Calif.), after the vote.

Of course, there were 183 Americans in the House chamber today who weren't feeling the speaker's joy - "We didn't have one Republican vote for this bill,'' Pelosi acknowledged.

"This was a one-party bill,'' complained Rep. Eric Cantor (R-Va.) "We weren't allowed to write one word of this bill.''

A lot of words, and numbers, went into those 1,071 pages. And a lot of work, on the White House's part, as Pelosi noted.

"Barack Obama, in just a few short weeks in office, has passed one of the biggest packages for economic relief in our history,'' the speaker said of her party's president. "This is one remarkable president. He did something faster than any American president has.''

Rep. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) was among those feeling somewhat less exuberant about the president's success today: "I agree with comments by President Obama and Speaker Pelosi that any stimulus package must be timely, targeted and temporary,'' Blunt said after the House's 246-183 vote for the package. "But the so-called stimulus package the House passed today fails each of those tests.''

She is really sold on herself or sick.

Speaker Pelosi is right and the polling of the American public backs her up.

The Repukes are voting for their party and for their leader, Rush Limbaugh.

"Most of the newfound stimulus bill support comes from rank-and-file Democrats, suggesting President Barack Obama's efforts to sell the plan over the past week -- including in his first televised news conference on Monday -- have shored up support within his own party. Last week, Gallup found 70% of Democrats in favor of Congress passing the economic stimulus package, but today that figure is 82%."
.
"Over the same period, support for the stimulus package held steady among independents, with a slight majority in favor of it. The percentage of Republicans favoring the package rose slightly from 24% to 28%, but remains below the 34% support received in early January, before Congress began its formal consideration of the package."

Republicans are likely to sulk, but they are still invited to play any time they want. And if they don't want to play? Irrelevance is over there on their AM Hate Radio dial along with their hero Rush.

Pelosi "...when I turned in my voting card that I was voting not just for myself but for the people of my district..."

That's right, an earmark for $30,000,000 for the people of YOUR district.

Ciao, Nancy as you fly to Rome burning fuel on a private jet all paid for by the American taxpayers.

Journalists..are there any still out there?...find out who else is on the plane, where they are staying, where they are eating and the total cost to taxpayers.

The "journalists" won't report that information because they get to accompanying Pelosi and get their bills paid by their news organization.

The corruption on the Hill continues.

Nancy needs to get her teeth re-done as she now has a noticeable lisp.

Biggest Winners:The Democrats and America
.
Biggest Losers: The Republican party and Rush Limbaugh

Anytime the Repuglicans get outside of their anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, tax-cuts-for-the-rich, comfort zone they just fall to pieces.

Petulant, obstructionist, hypocritical little children is putting it mildly when describing the Limbaugh GOPer's.

When this works, and it will, everybody will remember that the republicans "just said no" and "just didn't do it".

Also they came out:
1. With Rush Limbaugh tagged as their de facto leader, (nobody knows or cares who Michael Steele is, other than just another corrupt Repub)
2. Having linked themselves to the Taliban in search of tactics.
3. Most importantly - they accidentally let on to their deep disgust with, and of, working people.

The Repugs are doomed to a permanent moniority status and they don't even know it yet.

Somebody has to vote for the American citizen, because the ridiculous Republicans, refuse to do so. Instead, they opt to preserve their ideology, at America's expense. Obviously, they didn't lose enough seats and offices, in the last election. Well, America, remember, the Democrats, who tried to do something about the deplorable economic situation, that was of the Republicans making!! Also, remember the most inept President, ever to occupy our White House and those who refused to do anything about the Bush Blunders, the Republicans !! They, the Republicans, have ill-served America, in so many ways and they hope we forget. Fortunately, for America, President Obama is the beginning of an America, of the people, by the people and for the people !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

Bill- your comment is a distraction from the real issue..leaving the politics and side and just the common sense view of this 787B nonsense
- if it does create 4M jobs- this would mean that we are spending +/- 200K per job created...

How many jobs do you suppose any employer with half a brain in the private sector could create if they had that kind of cash to lay down...guarantee it would be MANY more than 1 job for 200K..

But Pelosi and crew now pat themselves on the back as if they just passed the emancipation proclamation...

Great photo.

Hoyer, looks like "what".

Pelosi, "we got you suckers".

Rangel, "how can I get some action".

What I continually find amazing is how so many on this Board continue attacking Republican/Conservatives. You got what you wanted, why the continued attacks. You should check, OK, I'll help. The minority is the Republicans, the majority is the Democrats. The White House is Democrat.

This should work for me. I'm almost 63, between SS and all the welfare programs I should do great.

I may have to change my name to Shanwafanabana Mohammad Rodriguez to make sure I can get any monies legislated towards women, blacks or illegal immigrants but it will be worth it.

Maybe I can get a grant to start a Magnet School for Kazoo players.
We are a lucky people, God bless you President Obama or you can bless yourself .. I guess

PrePuke,
Your GOPer team had their chance to govern and they wet the bed by spending on tax cuts for the rich and trumped up war games. Putting a tank in everyones driveway is no way to stimulate the economy and thus your party has become a very small minority party left to scream out their hair on fire declarations in the wilderness along with their leader Rush.

The American people are in charge of things now so take your little hair brain "whats wrong with the economy and why Dems are screwing it up", declarations and go home, you're not needed anymore Chucklehead.

President Obama and the Dems are driving the Republicans insane but the Republicans are also doing their part in damaging themselves by playing along. It's almost to easy.

The Republicans control the corporate media, so every single time there's an issue (any issue) over anything between the Dems and the Republicans, the Republicans instantly run around to all of the corporate media outlets and do their usual screaming, hair on fire, petulant child act, meanwhile Obama and the Dems just sit back and let them punch themselves out and then they go out and make their case directly to the American people and certain targeted media outlets (thank you Pres Obama).

America is sick and tired of the right-wing noise machine.

Was I talking to you?

This says more about the obstinacy of Republicans and the ineptitude of Reid and Pelosi than it does anything about Obama.

The GOP can't play 'the conservative way or the highway' for long before the public catches on...

Between Pelosi, and Reid, and our
Empty suit in the White house I am deeply concerned for the future of America. They are going to run our country into the ground. They can not possibly believe that what they are
embarking on with all this spending that our country is going to better off
in the long run. This is utter nonsense.

OINK OINK OINK This PORK bill is going to squander your money on a high-speed train from Disneyland in California to Las Vegas Nv so Sen. Reid's buddies get their political pay-back. Illegal Aliens will continue to take jobs Americans are fired from since the E-Verify provision was eliminated in the conference bill to pay back criminal employers of Illegal Aliens. Your health care now will be dictated by a D.C "Tsar" It appears there is about 2/3rds PORK in the bill, but since NO ONE HAS BEEN ALLOWED TO READ IT let alone understand the major points there is likely to be even more PORK than first detected. It is for sure the only jobs to be created are going to be in an additionally bloated bureaucracy in D.C. The stampede to vote on this PIG IN A POKE bill is so that no one gets a handle on what it really is prior to a vote meaning the fools in D.C. will vote for it 'cause they'll go along to get along. What a bunch of phonies, fools, and anti-Americans they are. Call and or email your Senators right now to express your outrage at this swindle, this theft of the American dream.

Re: right wing noise machine.

Yes. The only line of attack Replicans can find is the size & character of the Stimulus Bill.

It might be enough. If things don't perk up by Nov. 10, then they might enjoy a comeback of sorts.

Move in Mitt, who'll talk about his great business acumen from McKinsey/Bain and it'll be Romney v. Obama in '12.

And Romney might be able to pull it off.

I saw that Pelosi/Hoyer announcement on CNN.

The faces behind them did not look happy. Some tried to smile a little, but it was like smiling at your 5 year old who's in a hospital bed with 2 broken legs. What they call now a "social smile" with some of the muscles not contracting.

Sad.

Because this Bill is a product of haste & panic and is likely to have flaws as serious as the "September tranche" (hate that word).

And you could see the misgivings on the faces of the committee chairs standing in the row behind Steny and Nancy--check for a video on CNN.

Replicans are distancing themselves as if from radioactivity.

HAHAHA!

This coming from a guy whose beloved Republican party has championed fiscal irresponsibility, class warfare and budgetary malpractice for the last 20+ years...

The GOP was the architect of the failed conservative policies DIRECTLY responsible for creating the economic crises we're suffering under right now.

Rush Limbaugh says "jump" and Republican congressmen say, "how high?"

Just remember when we pull out of this economic mess that the Republicans tried to obstruct it.

Pelosi isn't even a citizen; she was born in Greece and appeared in the Iliad. Throw her out of the House.

In Rules for Radicals Alinsky writes, “There’s another reason for working inside the system. Dostoevsky said that taking a new step is what people fear most. Any revolutionary change must be preceded by a passive, affirmative, non-challenging attitude toward change among the mass of our people. They must feel so frustrated, so defeated, so lost, so futureless in the prevailing system that they are willing to let go of the past and change the future. This acceptance is the reformation essential to any revolution.”

I think this is what Barack is doing with his traveling road show of Misery in America.

Projecting people’s most personal challenges for nationwide broadcast .. tales of the most sad woe and personal misery… beaming around the world. People in misery decrying their condition…
. and all of it to say “America’s systems have failed”

Clearly there are problems.. I am not denying that. nor am I saying these folks are lying (though I have to remain skeptical of everything i see on TV). but what in the world is the President of hte US doing ? Why is he wasting his time with this? The actual job a President does is adminsistering the Exec branch.. the exec branch implements the law. The law is set by Congress based on the People’s need (allegedly)

In any case.. the Dems have the numbers to pass this bill.. he doesn’t need to be doing this to overcome opposition.

He’s alinskinig… he’s doing all he can to get people to want the US to trash our Constitution and Liberty and become socialist or worse.

Ugly step sister of Helen of Troy?

Nice description of George Bush, Vince.

I wish these tired, old Republicans would put away the fear and scare tactics of the 50's and the 60's !! Unfortunately, that's is all they have in, what, amusingly, they call their ideas chest !! If socialism is such an abhorrent word, or idea, send your SS checks back, pay the police and firemen, directly, out of your own pocket, not to mention the roads you drive, the schools our children attend. There are so many socialistic ideas in your so called " capitalistic " system ", it's a joke you even go there !! The last visible act of capitalism was the institutionalization of slavery !! What a wonderful legacy !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

City Ghost Payroller FITZ - the lone BLAGO backer,
.
I'll take you up on your ideas as longs as the taxes go away.
.
Don't send me a social security check when I turn 62, as long as the gov't send s back all the FICA taxes they have conficasted from over the past 30 years and promise not to tax me more.
.
I'll pay a local bill for police and fire, as long as Toddler Stroger doesn't tax the value of my property.
.
I'll pay for my own children's education (already do) instead of having the gov't provide a failing system.
.
It would be a lot cheaper because the middlemen of gov't (redistributors) would be out of the picture.
.
Finally, you may have a bright idea.

Don,
.
I don’t draw social security, and I am strongly thinking about refusing it when I am old enough to get it. I, like Terry, would simply prefer that the government return all the social security money they have taken from me and call it a day.
.
As for the rest, I guess you will never learn that government services like police, fire and public works aren’t indices of socialism. Every country that has a government has these services to one degree or another. One doesn’t have to resort to anarchy so as not to be a socialist country. These services, in particular, aren’t badges of socialism because everyone benefits from them equally regardless of their economic status and income level. It’s socialism only when wealth redistribution results in uneven contributions from wage earners to pay for those who don’t contribute. And BTW - I don’t get these services free either. I pay for police, fire, public education and a variety of public services through my state income taxes and property taxes. This is no socialist heaven for me. You should stop picking up your contrary B.S. talking points from the DailyKos.

Also, like the situation with Terry, no one in my family uses the public school system; but I pay for it all the same. As such, I am paying into the system much more than I have received in benefits. However, I will tolerate this without complaint because I can’t stand the thought of having to interact with even more ignorant people.

Type is cheap, just look at the last two jokers, who say they will be giving their SS checks back, when they're eligible. If that's true, they must be part of that Wall Street gang !!
The concept of a nation, itself, is a socialistic concept. Maybe you should have went to public school, that's one of the first things, anybody, willing to learn, learns !! Of course, your silly Republican ideology interrupted that part of your " education " !! I suggest, you go and take a few courses in Saul Alinsky's studies, you may learn a thing or two !! That's if, you want to learn anything !!

Don,
.
Your post is truly breathtaking. If what you have written had been revealed in time, it might have furnished grounds to have some of your public school teachers fired for incompetence. I do thank you, however, for reminding me how grateful I ought to be for my private education.
.
For starters, I’m self-employed outside the financial sector. I have nothing to do with “Wall Street.” I view Social Security as a burden produced by condescending government meddlers who think all people (excluding themselves) are too stupid or foolish to care for their own affairs. I naturally resent such patronization. On my worst day, I could find better ways to make money than the government does with the social security contributions it confiscates from me. The truth be told, so can anyone else. The only difference is that I can’t lawfully run a Ponzi scheme to support myself in retirement.
.
In the second place, Karl Marx would have had a good belly laugh at your claim that the “concept of a nation, itself, is a socialistic concept.” Socialism involves more than the kind of common social order the word “nation” implies. At a minimum, socialism includes collectivization and a mechanism for attaining “social justice” through the distribution or redistribution of material wealth. For example, Feudal England and Tsarist Russia were countries each containing at least one nation (a “nation” not being the same as a “country” or “state”). Poor people in those countries were, in effect, slaves left to struggle against poverty on their own aside from whatever assistance churches or private charity might offer. The governments offered no assistance at all. Even in Victorian England, in which Marx lived from 1849 until his death, it was not unheard of for people to starve to death, penniless and living in the streets. History provides many more examples of “states” and “nations” bereft of socialist mechanisms and ideals. Hence, “the concept of a nation” is most definitely not a socialist concept.
