The increasingly popular tune in the songbook of the chorus of criticism for President Barack Obama thrives on a theme that the president cannot walk, talk or rule a nation without a TelePrompTer.
One critical blog even poses as the president's talking TelePrompTer, and any number of people who log on with critiques for the president point to that PrompTer - actually that pair of PrompTers that Obama likes to use, his head turning from one to the other as he speaks.
Then, there was that best-selling autobiography, portrait of the audacious young man as a Harvard lawyer: Dreams from my TelePrompTer:
Now, the president's frequent impromptu remarks would tend to refute any notion that Obama cannot function without a prepared text - he appeared perfectly comfortable on the set of Jay Leno's Tonight Show this week, for instance, though the unscripted interview caused no end of pain for a president who found himself apologizing for his quip about his "Special Olympic'' bowling skills.
They don't load jokes like that into a TelePrompTer.
No president, or candidate, makes a big speech these days without one - we recall Mitt Romney's rote reading of his "Why I am a Mormon'' speech at Texas A&M during the presidential campaign, and we recall that PrompTer at the back of the hall of the Republican National Convention in St. Paul which advised Sarah Palin's movements after she spoke to an adoring crowd: "Now she turns and hugs her family.''
Nevertheless, the lore of the anti-Obama crowd's criticism is filled with TelePrompTer ridicule.
This past week, as our friend Glenn Garvin at the Miami Herald noted, radio's "Rush Limbaugh was making fun of President Obama on the air, needling him about some recent TelePrompTer screwups -- particularly one at the White House's St. Patrick's Day party where the wrong speech was loaded into the PrompTer and Obama began thanking himself for inviting himself to the party before he realized what was wrong.
"Since there was no new multibillion-dollar bailout to assail, Limbaugh mock-seriously went after the Teleprompter, barking out interrogatories like a Congressional committee high on subpoena ink: "There's a rumor, Teleprompter, that you send out a small shock to the president when he mispronounces words or mangles phrases you tell him to say, or that you can even make him cough. Is that true? Teleprompter, in private, is Joe Biden as buffoonish in private as he is in public? Tell us!"
As for that blog posing as a TelePrompTer - Baracksteleprompter - that's one critic that makes no bones about his associations:
(The blogger poses as the voice of "Reflections from the hard drive of the machine that enables the voice of the Leader of the Free World.'')
"Now that The Big O has pretty much ruined the Friday afternoon bowling league for everyone here, we're all heading over to the Old Ebbitt for Tim Terrific's surprise going-away party,'' the talking PrompTer says. "But before I leave, I thought we'd close the week with another question from El Rushbo
"Are you paid with taxpayer money, and if so, did you have to fill out Obama's questionnaire before you were hired? Damn straight I am. And I earn every last yuan of it. What? You think Rahm, Ben and Timmah, don't see the writing on the wall?''

When he speaks its like watching a ping-pong match. That being said he lies whether he uses a prompter or not. He said he would not have lobbyists in his administration, he said he would do away with earmarks,he also said he would be bipartisan all of which he has not done, so I believe this makes him a liar. The only thing this guy has managed to to is to undue President Bush's policies. Before you mess this country up any further, please resign.

Don't you feel absurd for writing about this topic? Please, Mr. Silva: the economy, health care, education, the environment -- you know, stuff that matters.

I've mentioned this before. This is the same kind of crap as Obama is a Muslim. The rabid will repeat enough times till it is true in their little minds. The "bloated one" says it on his show and the narrow minded sheep digest and repeat as if there was any proof to it at all. It is par for the course. Truth is not a priority when it comes to the weak minded. You can definately see who are the "dittoheads" who post here.

If this is the worst they can say, it will become tiresome because 8 years is a very long time.

"unspcripted interview?" Who are you kidding? According to other news sources, that interview was subject to much negotiation and EVERYTHING (probably even that stupid Special Olympics remark) was scripted in advnace. There were no surprises there.

There's no fool like a teleprompted fool now is there?
Except maybe if you count Obama's enablers that is. If I were him I surely would not stop short anytime soon. If he does he's going to get a heck of a surge in the keester.

Blago backer FITZ talks about throwing dirt, but in the previous post calls Gov Barbour "mealy-mouthed". Do as I say, not as I do?

FITZ,

How's you president doing bringing the troops home? Is he keeping his promise on that?

"Unscripted interview on Jay Leno's show?" This is a joke, right? I've been to the Leno show in Burbank and it is anything but unscripted, though it is made to appear that away. Guests like Obama get their questions and response lines in advance, written by Leno's staff. Leno rehearses relentlessly, there are automated cue cards and lines are written for guests so that they appear to have some humor. The bowling line was a setup but Obama made the mistake of ad-libbing. My guess is that he won't be doing standup comedy anytime soon. Back to his own TP.

This dependence on the obnoxious TelePrompTer (note it's presence during news conferences to answer the press questions) just reaffirms a substance of nothing more than a continuous political rote. Anything spontaneous is punctuated by "uh, uh or ah, ah" followed by rambling incoherence (observe non Tele answers). Besides he uses it to keep these half-truths and misleading statements in correct context with the WH propaganda, otherwise we see this hasty WH clarifications of Obama's comments. Much like billy r regurgitating lefty posts form the daily kooks.

My question is, why do you feel it necessary to write about this criticism? Seriously. This President has written two of his own books. Not have someone else write them, he wrote them himself. So please excuse me if I could give a hoot about whether he uses a teleprompter or not. I don't. He seems to make several speeches a day and if it makes it easier for him to have his prepared remarks on the teleprompter rather than memorizing multiple speeches, I say have at it.
This is what politics has become. The opposition is so desperate to knock down a popular president that they will try to pick up on any sign of weakness and ride it out until they can get attention from the press. And then the press, you in this case, dutifully report it.
Thanks for this great public service. Why don't you just stick with matters of policy.

That teleprompter site is hilarious!!!!
BTW have you seen what happens to Obama when his teleprompter goes out?

Enough with the tele prompter slams against our President. Obama looks absolutely Carteresque as he reads the Axlerob/Emanuel tele prompter talking points. Why he is so eloquent, one would think his Ghost Writer works up those speeches. Of course, the Ghost Writer is probably a bit busy penning the next Obama epic autobiography.
Please President Obama, please use a teleprompter when you meet with Putin and your pal Chavez. If you try to form your own sentences, we may end up under a new flag.

Talk about a stupid meme, the Repuglicans are really making fools of themselves lately. First it was the "whitey tape" and then it was the "birth certificate"...and now it's the "teleprompter"?....All of which, in the minds of the right-wing lunatic fringe, are going to bring Pres Obama down.
No wonder the Repuglican party has shrank down to the size of which it is now only a regional party (the south).

The Wingnuts are getting really desperate to smear Pres Obama. If Bush didn't use a teleprompter, then he should have:

All Presidents use a telepromter, in fact Republican hero St. Ronny Raygun used one more often than almost any President previous to him did.

ornery,
This isn't the worst they can say, it's simply what flows from the triviality of slamming Bush for 8 years because he didn't use one. Obama is no more articulate ultimately than Bush is, he's just more apt to take the cheap way out to avoid the mocking that inherently comes when your every public utterance is recorded and published to all the world.
It won't get old, IT IS OLD, it HAS BEEN old for the past NINE FRIGG'N YEARS!

IF you check out my blog you'll see the president has influenced celphone technology!

Laurie, that was a great link. Obama is a Class A Boob without the script written for him by Axelrod, et al. Heck, he even thinks there are 59 states and that Kentucky borders Arkansas, but not Illinois.
But I love Silva trying to cover up his Messiah's reliance on the TelePrompTer.
Also, while all presidents and politicians use the TelePrompTer, it's never been for every speaking moment. Only Obama uses it for EVERYTHING!

Has anyone ever wondered why throughout history leaders have used written PAPER speeches - some could hardly read (GW wink wink!)
I have a feeling the is a touch of jealous over the first Tech-savvy POTUS more than anything else. Anyone who doubts Obama's capacity as a critical and analytical thinker is cheating themselves. How he delivers his thoughts? I am all for the teleprompter if it makes ME understand him more.

If Rush had used a teleprompter during his CPAC speech, he wouldn't have confused the Declaration of Independence with the preamble to the Constitution, and included freedom as one of our inalienable rights, which it isn't.

Aloha Mr. Obama,
I would like to say that why wasn't the stimulous pacakage awarded to the people to pay off home mortgages instead of giving it to these companies that have riped us off?
God Bless.

I'd rather read the Teleprompter than the Swamp. Better writing, plus the teleprompter shows more independence.

If your interest was truly for the good of the country and not just to advance the Republicans, your cry would have been for BUSH to resign before HE messed up the country AS WELL as before he messed it up MORE. The rest of your comment is opinion, which may or may not be true but in any case at all is no more than your opinion.

If Tip Top was familiar with a dictionary, he/she might know that the terms "freedom" and "liberty" are generally used interchangeably...which means Limbaugh would have still been correct in terms of context...just not in terms of "quoting" the passage. Nice try though.

Can you imagine those lampooning those who are lampooning Obama's teleprompter fetish, what they would say if it were George Bush and his need for a teleprompter???? What a bunch of eff'n morons they are! Personally, I'd rather Obama use a teleprompter containing a well thought out, prepared text, when giving a speech in order to avoid looking like a buffoon. Then maybe he won't err when saying the USA has 58 states or when he can't pronounce Orion, like the constellation. Obama must have been hungry for cookies and I believe it was near nap time, because he was pronouncing it as one would pronounce the first part of "Oriole". As in 'Ore-Reon' Hey when Bush stumbled in pronouncing words, at least they were foreign as in Iraq's "Abu Ghraib", and not English, Obama's native language. I guess English is his native language. Maybe that's something the reporters who failed at their job when vetting Obama should check out. You think?!
