President Barack Obama's public approval rating has slipped.

"As a growing number of Americans see him listening more to his party's liberals than to its moderates, and many voice opposition to some of his key economic proposals,'' the president's high approval ratings have softened, the Pew Research Center's Andrew Kohut says today.

. It's down from 64 percent in February to 59 percent in the newest Pew survey, while the presidenti's disapproval rating has jumped from 17 to 26 percent in this span.

Disapproval of Obama has "increased markedly'' among Republicans (by 15 percentage points) and among independents (by 13 points).

The public perceives Obama as listening more to liberal Democrats than moderate Democrats -- by a margin of 44 percent to 30 percent in this survey. This marks a reversal from January, when 44 percent said he was listening more to moderates in his party and 34 percent said he was listening more to the party's liberals.

The latest survey by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Presswas run March 9-12, the survey of 1,308 adults carrying a 3 percent margin of error.

"There continues to be broad support for increased spending on infrastructure, and most have positive views of key aspects of his budget plan - reducing taxes on middle and lower-income households and raising taxes on the affluent,'' Kohut president of the Pew Center, reports.

"But the public remains divided over spending billions to help homeowners who are facing foreclosure on mortgages they cannot afford - 46 percent say this is the right thing for the government to be doing while an identical percentage says it is wrong.

New GOP strategy:

Instead of whining about all the legislation being passed, instead they'll start carping about the promises he hasn't kept (yet).

Since the thing driving down the polls apparently is the AIG bonuses and pay outs of TARP money to foreign banks that are flouting subpoenas from the IRS.

Yes, the public is keeping track of the campaign promises this time around.

just keep saying
Bush was worse..
Bush was worse..
Bush was worse..
Bush was worse..
Bush was worse..
Bush was worse..

Methinks the sleeping giant is beginning to stir.

When you have that Republican Chorus Line out there, dancing to the tune of " Fail, President Obama, Fail ", you are going to get a lot of non-thinkers, echoing their chorus line. The phony Republicans destroyed our country, now they want to blame President Obama !! You can't get any less patriotic, than that, but the Republicans will, before they realize that ideology will not get us out of the mess, in which, their ideology has placed us !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

No surprises here, either. This pretty much confirms the Rasmussen polling that you blogged about last week, Mqrk. How long until we can expect "water still wet?"

And you thought later this week was the first day of Spring. Turns out it's the beginning of (the) Fall.

My mortgage was finally paid off a couple of years ago. I went through up markets and down markets.
I bought a home I could afford.
My wife and I just purchased a second car. I still don't own a cell phone .... My point is, I worked my ass off paying off my own bills, and when I get to a point to maybe enjoy that (a little), I'm being told I have to pay someone else's mortgage they couldn't afford, in the first place.
I don't believe I should, and I would vote NO to allow it.

Here we go on the crazy train. Give illegal aliens social security, bail out a bunch of idiots who bought houses they couldn't afford, give huge bonuses to greedy jerks who don't deserve them, beat down the middle class. Wow, are we talking about Democrats or Republicans??? Just politicians, not statesmen. Too busy posturing to care about America.

all the polls (even the ones that lean left) are dropping daily. The defense is Republicans have something to do with it? Wow, this is the limit. Obama and Pelosi are doing this to themselves, to those who are die hard supporters of Obama, open your eyes. Democrats are not happy with him either!

PG....What do you say to the people who don't have children but pay for your childrens education? How about people who don't own cars but pay for your roads and bridges? How about people who have been opposed to the war in Iraq but still have to pay for it? Suck it up and be glad you have that house that isn't what it was worth 4 years ago.

Eye can whine too..( i bet you can!);

Welcome to adult land-!
**
Schools, improve property values whether I have children or not roads and bridges supports the economy that employs people and myself if I have a car or not..
**
MORE to the point is that I knew going into property ownership that I would be taxed, I had some say in the process- if nothing more than saying I am not going to buy a house in this community .. with the mortage bailout we are assuming all of the risk and a lot of the expense, but had no say in whether or not the mortgage should have been offered or not.
***
to PG's point, the +90% of Americans that have been paying their mortage on time - have no access to this money

As to the War... stupid analogy.... no point in turning this into a debate on whether or not Iraq was justified.. national defense is one of the few roles of the federal government actuallly specifically enumerated in the constitution...national defense decisions made by polling data hasn't been used since the Clinton admin..

But "eye can whine" PG's obviously a good Republican...it's all about him him him.

"Suck it up and be glad you have that house that isn't what it was worth 4 years ago".

What part of up and down didn't you get. And oh, "glad", I worked and paid for my own house. I gave up a lot for my own house. Crazy concept isn't it.

And all the other BS situations, then I don't want to pay for illegal healthcare, I don't want to pay for illegal education, I pay for those roads as well (unlike some and cash only people). How about me having to pay for abortions.
Try this, suck it up and be glad there are people out there like me paying for all of the examples. Yours and mine.

Obama will never see 60% again- believe that.
-
This is the first time that Barack's stuck-around in one job long-enough to be held to account for his promises and actions... and his credibility (after breaking campaign promises by nominating myriad lobbyists and tax cheats) is starting to show some cracks.
-
And it's about time this President was asked about his incredulous statements and disingenuous "goals"- for Obama to portray himself as some sort of deficit hawk just three days after signing the largest spending bill in US history is like Josef Stalin giving a speech deploring conditions in the Siberian gulag.

Obamamania is over-

Bush is gone! Long live President Bush. Now if our community organizer can get his shit together maybe we can get moving on solving some of the America's problems. The days of using President Bush as a crutch are over. Its high time our community organizer starts to stand on his own two feet. If you don't feel up to the task I'm sure Mayor Daley can find you a good slot in his democratic machine.

Need I say that Arrogances and self awareness seldom goes hand and hand? Nevertheless, this is what we have been getting from the fools in Washington and the Rush Limbaugh’s for decades. They are like a band of marauders, plundering and pillaging as they destroy everything within their sight, and aren’t they the idiots that we trusted with legislating the laws to protect us from this kind of mess. Jack, we don’t care who they officially have in charge right now. Because the next time we go into the voting booth, it wouldn’t be based on some stupid ideology that continues to allow our wallet to be made in China and India, while wondering where our money and job have gone! I guess we can regretfully say that the joke is on us? Don’t blame me, I’m just the messenger. Perhaps the Republican Party doesn’t care who the messenger is, because they continue to mostly blame everyone but themselves, as our Country slowly whittle away from their incompetents.
Here is my take on this matter; earlier today on the usual morning news shows, I heard everyone complaining about how ferociously our economy was on fire. Needless to say, that when the economy was being put on fire, everyone watched, as we heard little to nothing from anyone. So if you agree that the Republican Party was the arsonists, and has now become the fiendish Party of No. No meaning, I’m not going to help you put the fire out. While you must agree that the Media are the Party of the chaos agents. They both like to spread fear, and create as much panic and controversy as they can at every given opportunity. They both like to get a kick out of quoting this Country most clairvoyant individual, or should I say the most automatons figures. I don’t know how you feel about this, but to me they both are running this Country in the ground with their, me first, white-knuckle like attitude.
The Republican Party has been put on the life support machine by the People during the last two elections, but it appears that the media want to keep them alive. Somewhere along the line, the words like fair and balance, honesty and integrity got lost. This is not meant to be an indictment, but design merely as a fair and reasonable observation.
Just take a look at this: when the exit polls came out the night of the election that showed John Kerry ahead of George Bush 51% to 48%, the market drop immediately. After finding out that the exit polls was wrong, the market turned around immediately. This tells you that the market loves the Republicans, and here’s why, they know that the rich is going to get richer under a Republican administration, while allowing the poor to get poorer. Free trade is the code words for allowing big corporations to ship jobs oversea for cheaper wages, and sell their goods back to us for a bigger profit. Don’t be fooled, they are selling this Country out, It’s that Simple folks!
In closing: the News Media are becoming a practical joke! If CNN find it important to ask us about anything that Dick Cheney had to say, they need to change the title of their show to, BS me, I don’t care. CNN allowed Dick Cheney to spread his mess around the world. Where were the tough follow up question, huh? That was an extremely piss poor moderating performance by John King.

I am just speculating, but I think we may now be interpretting "approval rating" wrong; at least wrong for this President.

I think that "approval rating" is a lumping of two things, the presidents policies and the president as a person. Normally they are measured together.

But I really think that many in America, maybe mostly liberals and Democrats, will never come to a point of disapproving of a president who is also in a minority group.

So we now have approval of the man and approval of the policy as seperated.

I also think that we will see a return to "bash bashing" as liberals become disappointed in Obama on policy; they will need an outlet for this disappointment and they can not and will not direct it at Obama.

I just think it is amusing that democrats do like to raise taxes on us all; they just do not seem to like paying taxes.

Unless I am wrong, five Democrats Obama has tried to appoint have had tax problems, while it is good he has appointed some republicans too, I find it interesting that not one of them has had a tax issue!

Japan has its girl robot; America has its counterpart in the White House, a robot that cannot give a speech or even a press conference without a Teleprompter with words written by a 27-year-old wet-behind-the-years kid.
When are the national media going to admit that the "emperor" is wearing no clothes? In Obama's case, he's just a puppet with an off-stage ventriloquist doing the words.

The Hot Air in the Empty Suit is beginning to COOL---

Hmmm, this poll pretty much mirrors the Rasmussen Poll from last week. Course, the Loons from the Left blamed Rasmussen and said he was a "Republican pollster." The reality is Rasmussen for years has done the best job of any polling outfit of coming closest to reality with its polls.
Obama's numbers are falling because most Americans are not interested in socialism, nor do they want their president campaigning 24/7, like appearing on Leno. He's also showing that he a typical liberal: all tax and all spend.

I'm with Don Fitz. Hope Obama doesn't worry about the opinion polls---just keep doing a good job.

The voters are starting to see what 'FUNDAMENTAL CHANGE" is.

Maybe thats why he is doing Jay Leno ?

What about Michael Moore doing an Oscar-winning documentary about the health care system in Europe, Canada and other places around the world that show how we are really getting screwed around. It makes you wonder where CNN, FOX and MSNBC along with all the other supposedly reputable outlets have been on this matter. I guess big business has made them go from being the big Media to become the big Jerks. In closing: If CNN find it important to ask us about anything that Dick Cheney had to say, they need to change the title of their show to, BS me, I don’t care. And Obama's numbers are BEHIND George W. Bush's numbers at the same time in HIS presidency.

Obama--already less popular than GW.

PG, I don't disagree with your point on not liking to pay for people who are not able to pay their mortgages like you did (and like I am doing currently). I'm not thrilled about it, either.
.
HOWEVER -- for whatever you don't like about paying for "them," and building on Heartburn's explanation of how paying for schools even when you don't have children benefits you, please also consider (not necessarily in a particular order):
.
*Not everyone who is unable to pay their mortgages is doing so because of bad planning or because they over-extended themselves, especially these days. Many are now unemployed thanks to companies that seemed stable up to late summer/early fall last year. Their unemployment is not their fault and could EASILY happen to you as well, assuming you're employed now.
.
*"Sucking it up" carries TO YOU several benefits, whether or not you want to admit it. The more people we keep in their homes, the fewer banks are going to foreclose on said homes. That means your property values are supported, there are fewer abandoned or otherwise vacant homes in your neighborhood. The fewer empty homes, the less foothold is afforded to criminals that gravitate to those properties. That means a healthier, safer and more secure neighborhood FOR YOU.
.
*As more people are able to stay in their homes and pay their mortgages, banks become more stable (because they're losing less money) and they're able to loan money to businesses that will then not have to lay people off (or, at least, fewer people). That also means more stability, more people able to purchase goods and services (that keep businesses afloat), and the sooner this snowball we've been watching in the economy starts rollling OUR way.
.
I'd certainly agree with you wholeheartedly that this isn't the kind of "ideal situation" that I'd like to see in our society. Unfortunatelly, the "ideal situation" (people living and working in a healthy, strong economy with plenty of jobs, and paying resolutely for homes they can afford in a strong housing market where prices continue to expand) flew out the window a couple years ago, and -- not to rain on your parade -- it isn't coming back real soon. It WILL come back, I'm sure, but not this year and maybe not next year.
.
SO. To summarize. No, it's not a great situation. I think it's better, though, than just to let everything fail on its own and "oh well too bad so sad for them." Doing that could very soon include YOU (or me) in that "them" category, and I bet you'd feel a little more empathetic if you were the one unable to pay the taxes on that home you've paid for so diligently and end up out on the streets despite all your careful planning. Or perhaps if you're suddenly unable to afford stuff like food and clothing, or heat in the winter. Something to think about.

Your comments are aimed at the wrong person. You should be contacting every aspect of the Govt', and complain to them.

Govt' programs, like healthcare should not be done now.
Try reducing all sorts of taxes that would help business to be able to employ the people who are out of jobs.
Let me keep my money, to spend on the extra heating I might need instead of giving it to someone else.

Reduce corporate taxes (way down) so they can employ people.
Reduce the capital gain taxes or remove it, so I can keep more of my money, to spend on a cell phone (I don't own).
We can go on and on but the problem with the Govt', is they take (our money) and don't produce anything. Not one freakin thing. They think their a business, and a poorly run one at that.

The biggest ponzi scheme has been SS. Try this: My wife was married but her husband died of cancer. He/they had paid SS all his life, but when my wife married me, she was automatically removed from being able to receive SS, even tho they had paid into the system as a couple for years.
Yeah, lets believe in Politicians and their Policies. So, not one cent out of thousands of dollars that went into the IOU, no money SS, my wife was able to receive. But hey, the SS money I'm sure went to someone who deserved it.

PG, that doesn't make sense. Couples don't pay into Social Security; individuals do. If your wife did not join the workforce but received survivor benefits as the widow of her first husband (perfectly fine that she got them, btw), then those benefits SHOULD have stopped when she married you. You became responsible at that point for her support. To take your argument, why should WE support YOUR wife?
.
On the other hand, if your wife worked on her own and paid into Social Security, then she'd still get benefits in her own name and they can't take those away from her whatever her marital status (and, should she predecease you, you could be entitled to survivor benefits from her). Sounds to me like things are working exactly the way they're supposed to.
.
Doubt if that's going to quell your anger, but I tried.
.
And, speaking of anger, I think it's funny to read the righties gloating over Obama's poll decline. When you were in exactly the same boat with your ... umm.... person (?), and we commented about it (okay, we gloated, just like you're doing now), the polls didn't matter, or they were wrong, or the questions were worded so as to ensure that his numbers would be down, or Bush's refusal to pay attention to polls was evidence of his strong, sterling character, or we were traitors. Now, seeing you use exactly the same wording and acting like you've really scored some coup, well -- it really amuses me. And I'm glad to see the same rebuttals getting thrown back in your faces. Thanks so much for a good laugh. Obama's numbers were sure to go down (every president's approval ratings fluctuate during their administration, although very few presidents END on such a sad, declining note as Bush), so this should be no surprise.

I could spend a lot of time on this but, she didn't ask for your support, just the benefits she should've received as being the wife to someone who paid into the highest tax bracket for many years. With the govt', taking money from the both of them (his taxes) they could've used as a married couple. But that tax money went to the govt'., being wasted because the SS program is full of IOU's. That's why it's a ponzi scheme.

Nothing to do with anger. Well a little because everyones so believing in what Govt', takes. That angers, annoys me.

I originally posted about ""But the public remains divided over spending billions to help homeowners who are facing foreclosure on mortgages they cannot afford - 46 percent say this is the right thing for the government to be doing while an identical percentage says it is wrong."

So the second part of your post should have been separate.

There's not enough listening on ALL boards being generated by people of different opinions.

Do I want Congress running the private sector, no. Do I want the private sector running the DOD, no. Were Republicans wrong, yes, are Democrats wrong, yes. Was Bush in control for 8 years, YES. Where the Republicans in control of Congress for 8 years, NO. I try to play fair.
