Among the ceremonial duties of the President of the United States: Receipt of a bowl of Shamrock from the Taoiseach of Ireland on St. Patrick's Day.
So today, President Barack Obama - O'Bama for the day - will play host to Taoiseach Brian Cowen, in the Oval Office. And the two will perform the shamrock ceremony in the Roosevelt Room -- a name that we've been hearing a lot lately, in the midst of the attempted economic stimulus underway -- in the West Wing.
Obama also plans a private meeting with Northern Ireland First Minister Peter Robinson and Northern Ireland Deputy First Minister Martin McGuinness before motoring to the Capitol to speak at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's St. Patrick's Day Lunch.
.
There's also some other official business to conduct today - the president is meeting with congressional budget writers this morning and then delivering some remarks on his $3.55-trillion budget at 9:40 am EST. And he'll get his regular briefings and meet with Secretary of Defense Robert Gates in the Oval Office.
But then it's back to St. Patty's Day, with a reception for the taosieach and others in the East Room of the White House and closing remarks in the State Dining Room.

Look for further comments from the WH that blames our economic woes on a bunch a mischievous leprechauns. The lefties and MSM will accept it as fact.

Look for further comments from posters on the right to wash their hands of their rightful place in this economic meltdown. Don't look for any ideas to help, it is not their place nor their forte'.
