The Swamp

by Mark Silva

That's Sean Hannity on the screen, on MSNBC.

House? Democratic. Senate? Democratic. White House? Democratic.

Looking for some balance, the advertisement for the FOX commentator asks? Try Hannity, the voice of sanity in the conservative world, the off-the-Cheney host of evening TV on the "balanced" network.

Hannity, featured above with his own show, is taking it to the enemy's camp with his show-promoting ad airing on MSNBC, where the evening lineup has been stacked to the Left with a little warmup from Chris Matthews -- he of the "Oh my God'' narrative of Bobby Jindal's speech -- and then the full heat from Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow, who not only talks the liberal talk but also makes a lot of scary faces and sounds about conservatives in her path.

The political orientation war of the cable news networks is at a fever pitch: With Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity lined up on the Right on the evening FOX run against Olbermann and Maddow on the evening MSNBC run -- "Bill O'Reilly and Sean Hannity were brainwashed years and years ago. In their youths,'' a commentator on MSNBC's blog suggests.

Which has left CNN somewhat conveniently in the middle, and proud of it with its evening "No Bias, No Bull'' claim -- a tough case to make after Lou Dobbs, the king of xenophobic hysteria and cultural intolerance, gets done with the evening "news."

Olberman and Maddow (below) will have to start advertising on FOX now. And maybe CNN can advertise on both FOX and MSNBC.

But then, where is the orientation war headed? To a certain encampment of the American TV audience, taking seats wherever their favorite commentators take sides and few paying much attention to what the others are saying.

Seems like a lot of words and time to bring us to the obvious...........What part of "I HOPE HE FAILS" don't we understand? Does anywhere in that statement give even the slightest hint that republicans plan anything other than opposition to everything?

What you're missing is that Keith and Rachel are on one hour each (and repeated once later); MSNBC also has Pat Buchanan on just about 24/7; conservative Joe Scarborough is on for 3 hours every morning; Hardball has a Republican on for every Democrat who is on. The "liberal" tag is overblown; but at least they don't have Glenn Beck.

Hannity is in so much denial, he can't see (or think) straight. Anytime a caller calls Hannity and puts foward a slightly different viewpoint than his own, Hannity cuts and runs, spins, changes the subject, even hangs up on the caller. Hannity offers nothing to his feeble minded followers except blabbering lies and false patriotism. The man is a fraud. And then there's Bill O'Reilly, Ailes' puppet boy.

Wow... I wonder if all the above (3) comments were posted from the same person... because they're all categorically wrong!

"bill r." seems to have missed the whole "I hope he fails," controversy. But let me ask this, when Bush won election twice, and invaded Iraq, were you hoping he succeeded? No? Hmm... didn't think so.

"rupert" wants you to believe that Olbermann (who has NEVER interviewed someone he disagrees with) and Maddow (who rarely talks to people she disagrees with, as if Buchanan is still politically relevant) are not the atypical for MSNBC. That or course, is false. "rupert," while trying to suggest that Chris "Oh-My-God" Matthews has a balanced program, he doesn't discuss that O'Reilly has an equally balanced program, and that ALL FNC programs feature opinions from both sides of the aisle. All of them... yes, even Hannity and Beck.

I'm not sure how one can compare an evening lineup that features such strong partisans as Olbermann and Maddow (throw into that group as well Shuster and Matthews as well), but claim that their "liberal" label is over blown. Maybe if they actually debated, like the folks on FNC do, you'd have an argument... but they don't, so you don't.

And finally "Doug R." just throws some personal attacks at people who think differently than him. He also flat out lies about Hannity's radio show, and has most likely never listened to it... or he would know differently. I wonder, "Doug," did you complain when this happened: http://radioequalizer.blogspot.com/2009/02/libtalker-laughs-as-wife-slurs-bobby.html No? So much for you getting upset by "false patriotism."

Ah, you've got to love ideologues, who can't bring themselves to say, "I dislike all people and public figures who disagree with ME," and instead try to hid behind lies, falsies, double standards, and characterizations.

Actually 'Imnotblue', I do listen to Hannity just to hear his yackety-yack. So you are incorrect. Hannity can't handle opposing viewpoints, that is correct. So 'Imnotblue' just continuing overdosing on FNC, Hannity, and Druggy Limpbaugh. You have a great future.

Blue.....Wrong again. failure of Bush would mean more death to our troops and more treasure spent. Did I think he was wrong? Absolutely. Did I hope somehow in that little mind of his would he see the light? Absolutely...but failure does not help any of us.

Oh look, a "publicity stunt" that is generating "publicity" on The Swamp.

I LOVE when that happens!

Hey, IMNOTBLUE - did you not just live through the past 8 years? Bush did NOT win the election in 2000 OR the one in 2004. The Supreme Court decided to stop the recount, appointed Bush, and Gore didn't appeal. The 2004 election? Other than smearing a war hero (Kerry) and telling people his opponent in the primary (McCain) had an illegitimate black child, there was massive fraud in Ohio, which was the state that decided the election. Yep, it's all documented and easily accessible, and there are several books (sorry, no pictures) available for your use. Stop believing the talking points those on the right are spewing to try to rewrite history.

Your arrogance and ignorance make the point you're trying to make moot. And folks like you are the exact people Rush, Hannity, et al want as their listeners. You know, the type who don't think for themselves. Some "elitists" call them the low-hanging fruit.

Oh, and btw, Maddow relishes a good debate and is constantly seeking out views from the other side. Lay off her!

MSNBC has Joke Scarborough doing his own show and Scarborough would fit right in with the right-wing lunatic fringers over at Faux News.

I'd like for Faux to name just ONE show they have that even leans left...?

We don't have a real media anymore. What we have are rich people (Murdoch) or big corporations who buy up all of the media outlets so they can shape the news with their preferred right-wing slant. Take Murdoch for instance, here's a guy who is losing millions every year with all of his media outlets but it doesn't matter because the more important thing to him is that he is able to shape the news with the right-wing slant that he prefers.

Does anyone ever remember the media treating other Presidents the same disdainful and disrespectful way that they treated Bill Clinton or the way they are already treating Barack Obama?
The corporate media repeated word for word every single one of Bush and Cheney's BS talking points without question, until it was obvious to everyone that Bush was full of shit and his policies were failures. Only then, when the corporate media finally realized that no one was buying Bush's talking points anymore, did they turn on him.

lvginclp.

It must be difficult living in your world with so much anger and denial. The 2000 election was clearly stopped before the democrats could steal it, similar to the m.o. used in the Washington State gubernatorial election and the current senate contest in Minnesota. But, I do like people like you. You're fun to toy with because people like you are fundamentally broken and generally unemployable. So you're value to me is only as a plaything.

Commentor ImNotBlue claims that FNC show hosts like Hannity and O'Reilly debate those with whom they disagree and offer opposing viewpoints on their shows, (unlike Olbermann and Maddow).
At first glance, this appears to be a valid claim.
But it's false.
Watch Hannity or O'Reilly when they have a guest on with whom they disagree. Without exception, they never allow such guests to state their viewpoints.
Instead they interrupt, belittle, bully, insult and patronize such guests. Indeed, O'Reilly often loses his temper and starts screaming at them to "shut up."
Folks, this isn't "debate." This isn't allowing "opposing viewpoints." It's nothing more than a circus. It's a shoutfest. It's a joke.
Give me the info-packed, in-depth, intelligent hour of Olbermann's show any night over FNC's simplistic, moronic, propagandistic crap.
And if I want a dose of the Conservative viewpoint, it simply doesn't exist on TV these days (certainly not on FNC). For such viewpoints, I turn to the highly respected "The Financial Times" newspaper (an intelligent, sober, less hysterical version of "The Wall Street Journal").

Haggis, okay, I'll indulge you. Anger? Denial? Never been to Egypt in my life.

I remember it was Sandra Day O'Conner's vote that gave it to Bush. Katherine Harris anyone? Ken Blackwell? Diebold?

I'm glad you like "people like me" - but, I'm sorry, I'm already my girlfriend's plaything.

I am fully and happily employed too.

I recall Ann Colter calling Keith Oberman a 47 yr old female in a mans body. Well, Rachel Maddow is a thirty something man in a womans body, That seems like fair and balanced to me

at the end of the day, look at the ratings....
someone made a joke about beck.....
he has the ratings of maddow and oldermann combined...
and the only way this current idiot got in the white house was by hiding who and what he is.....go ahead dems, be proud of the tax cheats and special interests who were supposed to be purged but run your party.....sad the jokes on all of us now.....long live fox news....hahaha

The proof is in the ratings. The latest results are on Drudge, Orielly- Hannity -Beck- Greta -Brett Bair , in that order......Fox rules the prime time with overwhelming numbers

Are all liberals idiots or just the ones posting comments here?

Seams to me the people on the left are more mean and more name calling than the peole on the right. Why is that?

Fox News is the top six of ten in prime time. Must be a mistake of some kind. Let me check last months standings.

I don't care either way, but:

I am amazed that neither the media nor the audience can apparently differentiate between a "News" program and an "Opinion show". News should be even handed, present other view points and include all the news, not just some of the news.

Opinion shows don't , period.

LOL BUSH did win in 2000 and 2004. Get over it! I have to get over the fact that Obama won in 2008. As for the coverage of the sitting Presidents... I listened to 8 years of BUSH BASHING. It's only been about 2 months and the liberals are crying foul that their poor little president is facing opposition. The difference between Bush and Obama... Bush could take it. Obama can't and has to personally attack Talk Show hosts. Bush never lowered himself to even acknowledge the hatred thrown at him from the left and liberal media.

Nothing Here...........Move On !

I make it a point not to watch FOX except for sports and "24". Fair and Balanced is not what they are! They will stop at nothing to make Obama look bad.

For the moron who claims there was massive fraud in Ohio, I would love for you to post a link to the evidence of this supposed fraud. And when I say evidence, speculation on left-wing blogs about who owned the voting-machine company does not count. There is absolutely no evidence, at all, that fraud occurred in Ohio, none.

And please, spare us the faux outrage about smearing a war "hero" after the treatment the left gave John McCain, a man who spent more than 90 days in Vietnam. At least McCain didn't lie about being in Cambodia on Christmas, didn't call American soldiers genocidal murderer comparable to "Genghis Khan" to a Congressional panel, didn't make a display of throwing away his medals in front of protesters and didn't write his own medal citations. No one has been able to rebut those charges about Kerry for the simple reason they are all true. So until you make a post about your outrage over the treatment McCain received from the left concerning his Vietnam service, you are a hypocrite, pure and simple.

Wow what a noble defense of the fact Olbermann never has anyone on his show who disagrees with him...claim that Hannity and O'Reilly do, but they belittle and bully their guests so much it doesn't count. Hahahaha, give me a break. That defense would get laughed at on Daily Kos. Furthermore, I would be willing to bet you have seen exactly zero full episodes of Hannity or O'Reilly. And you also forgot to mention how Beck often has people on his show with whom he disagrees. I guess he bullies them to much for it to count too, right.

Face it, there is no way to defend the fact that Olbermann refuses to have anyone in the same studio with him if they disagree with him. You can make fun of Fox News (Faux news hahahahahahahaha, wow that is hilarious and is in such contrast to the hard-hitting news on MSNBC)all you want, but it will not change the fact that Olbermann is a joke who can't take people who don't fawn over him and his "Rush Limbaugh is worse than a man who killed three thousand American citizens" ravings.

Want to have Keith's ratings go up? Send him back to sports, where he can not give his stupid opinions. Only the facts as the score shows.

to asalcido..Obama needs no assistance in making himself look bad. He and his teleprompter are doing just fine there. President Obama is nothing more than a bottom dealing, two faced hustler who has more con in him than Frank Abagnale and Bernie Madoff combined. His total disdain for the US Armed Forces is also abundantly clear. He will make phony statements of support for the GI's out of the right side of his face, and give the finger to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier on his left. As Commander in Chief, he has no respect, is and abysmal failure and a global embarrassment.

YOU LIBERALS CAN'T EVEN POST HONEST COMMENTS, ON EVERY FOX SHOW THEY HAVE DEMOCRAT GUEST, WHEN I CAN STAND TURNING ON MSNBC OR CNN, I SEE NONE !!!!!!!! TALK ABOUT ONE-SIDED ,BE HONEST.

I just love the comments about the "unbiased" nature of CNN. Read the most recent AP post concerning the fact that CNN is third in the ratings, and their explanation that folks just don't want "news" anymore, they want "news through their ideological prism".

The folks who say this stuff, along with all the commentators above and elsewhere, are either 1) STUPID, or 2) EVIL.

If they simply don't know how biased they are in favor of socialist/democratic/communist approaches, they are STUPID. If they KNOW, but continue to claim that they don't understand, they are EVIL.

Either way, it ain't good.

Two questions:
1. Does anyone know why Chris Matthews is not listed in the ratings on Drudge? He is on twice just like Olberman.
2. Is Olberman's number ratings on Drudge an average for each of his two showings or is it both showings combined for a single total?
Thanks from MO

All this politics aside, does anyone go up to Olbermann and talk to him about if he's aware that his jokes aren't funny or go up to that other guy, Maddow, and ask her why she is smiling when she is talking about a bad event. Why? It's sad.

It seems MSNBC isn't increasing viewers, CNN is losing them. I think D.L. Hughley didn't help anything. Apparenlty, all white people are Nazis. There was a poltical party called the Nazi Party way back in 1930s Germany, but I doubt D.L.Hughley knew that.

After the Obama love, ofcourse some people are cyncial of MSNBC. I never understood how a first term senator with great speaking ability was supposed to fix everything. Oh, and my dad's retirement was just cut. It's will be Year 3 and month 10 when he's speeches might lose some of their movie star, Pepsi gleen for some of the many who still loved him, but I never bought into it in the first place. I guess if that makes me a Nazi, there are going to be a whole lot of other Nazis of both genders and other national origins around as well when that next presidential election comes around.

Liberals generally expouse to be the group of nice, tolerant, and free speechers. Give them some coherent logical information that does not jive with their perspective and they become vile, insolent children. Party who cares, my backside. Caring is not defined as enabling, caring is giving support so the personal can feel empowered to do it themselves.

Listen through your hate for a second, "we want obama's 'take power away from the people and the ability to chose you own path to fail.' His fail is a win for the american people.

Now on with the facts, 2000 election, if Gore would not have tried to cherry pick traditional democratic voting areas, and went for a total recount, he probably would have had a case. Unfortunately, they could not admit that he had lost, close but lost none the less. Gore had no one to blame but himself. Even though Bill had been impeached, he was still popular in the country. He did not have Bill on the campaign trail, he was getting advice on how to be a man from a female campaign manager, he continued to swap spit with his wife any chance he got in public, he continued to show himself to be the environmental nut that he continues to be today, and he could not outdebate 'W'. Theoretically, he should have crucified Bush in the electoral college but he did not. Also, do not give me that crap about winning the popular vote. It was believed going into the election that Bush was going to win the popular vote and Gore the electoral college. Newspaper reporters had stories ready that lauded the electoral college as the most fair system for the country. As soon as Bush won the electoral college, they scrapped the articles. Also, do not tell me that newspapers are going down because of the internet. The newspapers got lazy, opinionated, and generally stupid and that is why they are going under.
And 2004, Kerry was/is an elitist snob who came home from the war after pretty minor injuries to call his own breathren 'child killers.' Making your bones with the left by treading over the blood that was spilled is pretty bad. Unfortunately again, Kerry could not out debate Bush (Bush always was the underdog in the debates, so an adequate showing rose to the level of a draw.) The left leaning "big media" pushed the early polling data in an attempt to sway the voters later in the day but Bush won fair an square. (Now if you want to take a swipe at Rove for putting the gay marriage issue on a lot of ballots to get conservatives to come out, you'd probably have some points but isn't dirty pool every time from every party?) And any lefties that said 'no,' I have one word for you 'ACORN.' (or obama's citizenry force soon to be renamed the brown shirts). Remember most abuse of power began as someone who said he cared and wanted to help, as the nazi were the national socialist party.
And as great believers in evolution, remember liberals are just unevolved conservatives.

Well... I just wonder which news station TELLS THE TRUTH.

So far all except FOXX slants the news to support the Democrats and Obama.

My problem is... not one of the News Stations DARES to confront Obama on WHY he fails to disclose his ORIGINAL notorized hard copy of his Birth Certificate.

Why has He elected to SEAL all records regarding his academic years, how he got into the Elite Private Schools from HIGH SCHOOL through Harvard. Who provided letters of recommendation, grants he received, loans he received, how he paid for his college, work experiences he had except as a manager.

I would like to just sit down on a news station.. as a lay person and have a list of those same questions.

As a former military person.. I demand to HEAR/RECEIVE this information from the POTUS.

As a young Lt in Vietnam... I was taught to believe Half of what you See and nothing of what you hear.

So far I have not saw anything out of Obama except lies, deception, and a total lack of honor.

I find it so sad obama continues to go after bush all the time. When giving a chance to comment, bush said nothing bad about obama. I don't know why obama blames bush, he is doing the same as bush but WORSE! I tried watching msnbc but they are just so nasty. They go after private citizens and politicians children. They do so many personal attacks and not news. They constantly mention FOX on msnbc, so who is jealous of who?

MSNBC has become an arm of this criminal White House. CNN is an arm of no one. Fox News has the guts to present both sides of the argument. That is why their ratings destroy the other two. Anyone who wants to listen to hysterical leftwing baloney needs to stay on MSNBC, because they put the "H" in "horseshit.:

Olberman is obsessed with Fox, he talks about them constantly.

Fact - Herr Olbermann and Little Boy Maddow are trying to pass themselves off as news - O'Reilly and Hannity are honestly labeling themselves as opinion shows. And people complain that Fox News is confrontational specifically because they have both sides represented. MSNBC has all liberal hosts, with only approved liberal "news" guests who give the liberal party line, then the same liberal guest (though never identified as such) actually gives the other side via constant "a Republican aide quietly admits" nonsense as they are nice enough to present "both" sides of the argument. What a joke. CNN is almost as Lefty as MSNBC, they're just not very good at it or anything else. MSNBC is great at building up straw men (Bush lied about the war! Bush cheated in Ohio!), treating it as fact, and then building an hour show about it. Most smart liberals get their news from comedians like Jon Stewart, and not sportscasters like Herr Olbermann.

HERE'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SHOWS and I side with no one side in particular. I monitor all these shows. I give Beck, Oreilly and Hannity credit for one thing. At least they are willing to invite guests with opposing opinions (written e-mails or in person) on their programs. Oberman and Maddow never do. I've watched them now long enough to know that's a fact. If you don't have the guts to challenge invited guests with opposing opinions on to your program, then you definitely lose some credibility.

The TRUTH is both the Wingnuts and the Eggheads only want to hear every story being reported in the best light for their ideology and worst light for every other ideology. I have started getting the news from stations like : CCTV9 , Euro news, Press Tv, Russia Today and other channels from out side the USA. We no longer have any news channels but just advertising channels willing to do most anything to get a ratings increase. I am center right on some issues and center left on others, something that upsets the cliff hanging Wingnuts and Eggheads . Truth be known more Americans are like me than those hanging on the cliffs. We tried 8 years of Bush and he failed and now we are trying Obama. If he fails maybe a centralist should be looked at seriously and just let the cliff hangers fight each other while a centralist POTUS puts the country back on the correct path its needs to be own. CNN is losing the battle to be a news channel and not a ideology based reporter of the news. FNC has sold the majority of Americans they are alone against every other channel , because all others are too liberal and they are balanced, but the truth is Fox weaves their WINGNUT ideology into every single news item thy report and just do not report a story that can be not reported in a good light for them.
