The nonsensical Republicans are screeching about fiscal responsibility, while they were party to, a doubling of our national debt, while the Incompetent One, and his shadowy sidekick, were in Office !! They have turned their Party into the right wing of the Comedy Store !! Unfortunately, nobody finds their hypocrisy funny, particularly when they tried to hide the cost, in treasure and lives, of an unnecessary and stupid war, the War and Occupation of Iraq !! The Incompetent One doubled our national debt to 5 Trillion Dollars and left another 10-15 Trillion Dollars in toxic assets, for President Obama to clean up, as best he can, without Republican help !! How is that for the flag-waving, ultra-patriotic Party ? Telling President Obama, you are on your own !! That sounds very anti-american to me and, I am sure, millions of other Americans !! When are the Republicans going to regain their senses ? When will they realize we are one nation, not two: the rich and the poor !! I hope they get it straight soon, otherwise, they are destined for the dust heap of history !! They have " ideologized " themselves into oblivion !!
SUPPORT OUR TROOPS, BRING THEM HOME, ALIVE AND WHOLE. NOW.

Today's news story The Swamp won't tocuh, from The Hill:

"The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC) has apparently decided to keep $100K in contributions from Bernie Madoff, who faces up to 150 years in prison for swindling billions from the likes of Steven Spielberg, Elie Wiesel, Kevin Bacon and Kyra Sedgwick in a massive Ponzi scheme.

In campaigns, one side often calls on the other to return money for one reason or another. Sometimes it's valid, sometimes not. Regardless, it's Campaign 101. But when the contributor in question is the single biggest financial criminal in history, there can be no question that those illicit funds should not remain in campaign coffers.

Sens. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) gave thousands in Madoff donations to charity. Reps. John Dingell (D-Mich.) and Charles Rangel (D-N.Y.) are doing the same.

Given the economic uncertainty our nation faces and that Madoff not only fleeced the rich and famous but major corporations such as HSBC — in other words, Madoff swindled all of us — the DSCC's decision is shockingly tone-deaf.

However, what’s almost equally surprising is the virtual silence from the media. During the Enron scandal, returning campaign money was a daily drumbeat, as were the news stories discussing Enron’s purported ties to President Bush. Now, when the Democratic Senate campaign vehicle makes the conscious decision to keep $100K in Madoff money, stolen just as if it came from a bank holdup, there's little to no outrage. Why?"

Actually, we ALL know why the press is keeping silent on this story: Because Democrats are involved.

FITZ th Blago Supporter,
.
And BO will double it again. You leftie hypocrits whined when Bush did it, but its OK when BO did it. At least most of us on the right condemned Bush and the GOP when they ran up the debt. Also, that is the reason the GOP is out of power.
.
I guess the SWAMP has forgotten about this story - Brittney Spears must be more important.

I thought the world was going to love us when BO became president?

Hey heres a blast from the past, our pal Trickle down Terry on the Bush deficits he now claims he condemned:

First thing I'll state is that George Bush and the GOP Congress of 2001-06 spent like drunken sailors - and that was an insult to drunken sailors.

Before all you flat liners start ranting about Bush, let's look at some facts:

The deficit is going back up due to a slowing economy (remember the economy has cycles) and the $150 billion dollar "stimulus" program that currently the democratically led Senate is trying to make larger with more add-ons.

Is this $150 billion going to stimulate the economy? If so, is it for the long-run?

Also, rememeber in order to measure deficits in terms of the GDP (size of the economy). According to the Bureau of Economic Analysis of the Commerce Department, current GDP is $14 Trillion dollars. So percenetage of deficit, at $400 billion, to GDP is under 3% - very manageable.

This is better than the early 90's when we had $300 billion deficits with an economy that was twice as small. It's slightly worse than in the mid 90's when defcits were $200 billion and the GDP was only $7.4 Trillion. Until this economic slowdown, the deficit of under $200 billion was very managable in a $14 Trillion dollar economy.

The real sticker shock is when the SocSec ponzi scheme starts coming do.

Other than retreating from the war on terror, I haven't heard any spending cuts from Hill and Obama. All I have heard is more gov't spending - how is that going to reduce the deficits?

Do you think raising taxes will solve the problem? If that's the case, let's double everyones taxes and gov't revenues should double correct? Do you think higher taxes will grow the economy? If so, I want to hear the explanation.

And again:

dt,

In other words, the deficits are not that large when compared to the size of the economy. Lesson learned.

Guess where Ken Lay slept a few times in the 90's? The Lincoln Bedroom and Bill and HIll's Bed and Breakfast, we call the White House.

Guess which company got great gov't grants in the 90's - Enron.

Deficit spending during wartime is not bad since a war is a closed end expenditure as opposed to Social Security which projects out forever.

It has been shown that cutting taxes brings in increased revenues, therefore, all other things being equal, this would lower the deficit. The problem is the spending on other gov't programs.

Bryan,

60 plus straight months of economic growth - sure seems the economy is going pretty well.

dt,

My point is the American economy can grow out of any deficits that it creates. These deficits are small.

Boy that sure doesn't sound like anyone condemning the Bush deficits, does it?

Poor Trickle Down. Forced to relive his own slow death.

Just like Jeff, Bruce, John D et al, nothing but paid off GOP hacks spewing their message and forgetting what they wrote yesterday.

Farewell to the insignificant minority.

Louie,
.
What part of this don't you understand:"First thing I'll state is that George Bush and the GOP Congress of 2001-06 spent like drunken sailors - and that was an insult to drunken sailors." I'll stand behind every comment I made becasue they are accurate. The deficits during the first 7 years of the Bush administration were not that large as compared to the size of the GDP. This past year's deficit would be unsustainable on an on-going basis.
.
What BO has proposed is deficits of a nearly a Trillion $$$ per year for ten years. This will cripple the economy and the country.

Those comments were accurate then and they are more accurate now.
.
Bubba - at least Lou tries to add something to the conversation, you just wast oxygen
